Higurashi is...interesting. Aspects of Slice of Life but then some WTF stuff as well, it's often lumped in to the psychological category :)
Updated my last post too so perhaps check out the other suggestions if they've appeared since you read my initial post :)

Hehe. I seem to like Vampire/Supernatural stuff at the moment, yet my favourite anime by FAR is Hunter x Hunter, which is nothing at all like that.

I wish I could find some more anime as good as Hunter x Hunter, Full Metal Alchemist, Rurouni Kenshin, Death Note and Yu Yu Hakusho. They were my favourites.

I am so psyched for the 2011 reboot of Hunter x Hunter! Airs October 2nd :D

Edit: That Texhnolyze looks mental.

I'm also a vampire fan, although unfortunately a lot of the Vampire stuff out there I've seen is a bit too fluffy (Vampire Knight, Moonphase etc). I do like Vampire/Supernatural material though myself.

Whilst I remember, Ghost Hound and Ghost Hunt are often recommended in this genre although I've not got round to watching them, there's also Witch Hunter Robin. I'm guessing if you liked FMA you've seen Brotherhood.

Yeah, I've seen Brotherhood and the Movie. I've also seen Witch Hunter Robin. It wasn't one of my favourites, but I managed to finish it :P

I usually hate anime that has "Fan Service" :P Anything else ? Not into sex reference comedy.

Edit:

I picked Ga-Rei, using Anime Recommendations website. hehe. Hopefully it's good.

If you think that Corpse Princess is all fan service and "sex reference comedy" then you know absolutely nothing about it. The cover may show a school girl in a typical, but ripped, uniform but the series is not like that at all.

Ga-Rei is ok, but doesn't live up to it's promise and could have been a lot better.

I just read a review

This put me off. :(

you might like the Karas OVA's their a bit wtf in terms of story but in terms of animation quality and fight sequences their quite pretty but this may be me remebering them through tinted specs as i haven't watched for a few years

Lek, small point - tis Noblesse Oblige :)
It's a phrase which basically means the obligations/responsibility of those of nobility :) EotE seems to use a lot of european references for its bits and pieces.
Selecao is Portugese for selections, and the guy in control is called Mr Saizo Ato (Reverse this back to Ato Saizo and it's basically Mr Outside with an accent)

I watched Only Yesterday. It was another nice film with done bits that made me smile and laugh, but I did find it harder to 'connect' with than Whisper of the Heart. I still liked it, and my friend is sure that critically its the better film, but I don't think I'd rush back to watch it again if that makes sense.

I think perhaps if I'd felt more connection to some of the events or lifestyle I'd have fared better but as a young non-Japanese person I found it that little less nostalgic in a sense.

Still a good film, but the Ghibli I've enjoyed the least out of the selection I've seen.

I'd agree with that. Only Yesterday is a good film but, being non-Japanese it is probably the hardest to relate to of the Ghibli films. The other Ghibli in the same sort of vein is Ocean Waves but I found that a lot easier to get in to.

Some news from NISA over night ... their release of Kimi ni Todoke has been delayed with part 1 (premium edition) now coming out in January instead of October ... but this is a good thing as now it is going to be a BD/DVD combo pack with the artbook instead of just being DVD! There's a slight bump in price ($10) but that's not significant. They have also announced that they have licensed the second season of the anime for release later next year too.

I'd agree with Only Yesterday being one of the harder ones to relate to, but still very good (I think Pompoko or the Yamada's are my least favourite Ghibli's).

Interesting news about Kimi ni Todoke, is the series any good? (I'm tempted to order it).

And I've just this minute finished Spice and Wolf S2, which whilst it didn't seem to have much "action", had a good story, dealt with the relationship between Holo and Lawrence well, and had a good ending to that part of the story :)
The more I watched of S&W the more I liked the interaction between Holo and Lawrence, and like the character of Holo :)
I really would love to see a third season of it, but it's 2 years old now so I fear it may not happen :(
At least we've got the books, although I'll confess that despite having all of the current ones I've only read the first :)
I loved the extra about stretches on the DVD/blu-ray:p

Next up is probably going to be Bamboo Blade, as it's either that, Soul Eater which has been sat on the side for a couple of months, or The Gokusen.

I also see that apparently MVM have licenced Welcome to the NHK for release here, depending on the price I may double dip, as I liked the TV series (I'm currently reading the manga*)

*I bought volume one of the manga when ADV first announced the anime licence, but didn't get the rest of it until earlier this year (and it's taken me months to get to volume 6).

The Yamada's is just, well, strange ... completely unlike any of the others in style.

Personally I really like it, (and it's manga which is up to ~9 volumes released in English so far). The first season is quite slow but that suits the story. The second season is only a single cour, compared with the first seasons two, and rounds of the story nicely. It's not exactly a ground breaking story but it is very nicely done and the production quality is high.

There is a live action film which covers the same story as the first anime season (apart from a slight change at the end to allow for the film to finish where the series carries on). It's one of the best live action adaptions I've seen ... it would be nice if someone licensed and released that too.

Soul Eater is in my "need to give it another chance" pile at the moment ...

I have the singles and box for 'NHK but I really don't get on that well with it. Just didn't find any of the characters remotely likeable really ....
