Watched Spriggan this evening as I'd been recommended it. Gotta say it reminded me of a combination of Full Metal Panic (in a good way) and Akira (not in a good way). It wasn't a terrible film, but it certainly wasn't the watch I was expecting.

I'd probably chalk it up as perhaps a 6-7/10.

@Jonny - I know what you mean, BL probably has the best overall dub I've seen, and I'm in the same position of kinda wanting to see RBT, but not without the same voice cast I watched the original series' with.

Might be an odd (and rather generic) question but would people normally recommend watching in japanese with english subs or english dubbed? The only anime I've seen lately is Hellsing (tv series and the OVA's) and they've been great in both english and japanese but it could just be an exception.

Rainforest US site as DBZ Kai for around $18 a boxset at moment on Blu-ray, tempted to get it since I never saw past Cell saga in original DBZ, only thing is I've got all the DBZ boxsets but the amount of filler makes me want to fall asleep

The vast majority of the time it's Japanese with English subtitles for me ... I just don't like the American accented dub tracks, they just don't sound right to me. There are a couple of exceptions but that's mostly the case.

edit: Just watched the latest Kami-sama no memo-chou .... oh **** :(

Watched Whisper of the Heart this evening.
Man, I'm starting to realise I've been missing out not paying attention to Ghibli, each of thier movies I've seen has had real charm - more so than most movies in these veins than I've seen for a long time.

Will definitely be taking a closer look at the Ghibli catalogue in the following weeks and months.

Yes the Ghibli films are definitely worth a look. The only two which I found a bit weak are Only Yesterday and Earthsea, but they are worth a look too and you can normally pick them all up on sale pretty cheap.

Whisper of the Heart is a favourite of mine although I do think that it is one Ghibli that needs to be watched subbed to get the difference between the songs in English and in Japanese. It is due out on BD in the UK in November.

I suspect that the next Ghibli's out on BD in the UK will be Howls Moving Castle and Earthsea as they are due out in November in Japan, along with a re-release of Ponyo, so should be out here (if the release pattern is maintained) in Q2 next year.

Anyway, finished watching Corpse Princess yesterday. Bit of a supernatural horror series so not really my sort of "core" genres but pretty enjoyable never the less. I did prefer the first half of the series to the second as the second half seemed to be a bit messy at times and seemed to loose its way a bit. I also didn't think that much of the ending.

Also watched Adieu Galaxy Express 999 ... much preferred the first film. This one just didn't seem to have as good a story as the first one and whilst enjoyable just seemed to drag at times which the first one didn't.

The latest Hanasaku Iroha was good, nothing that dramatic happen but it helped to clarify the reasons why Sui is so set on closing the inn and it's still very much up in the air what is going to happen with only two episodes left.

I see that Welcome to the Space Show has been listed for UK DVD/BD release (Amazon have it for December, UP have it 7-10 days but I think that's an error on their part).

Good film which feels very Ghibli-esque although it is sci-fi.

Just finished watching the other day Kurogane Communication. I thought it was a fantastic sci fi retro styled show. Robots, end of the world, 1 human survivor or is she.. Totally recommend it to peeps.

I need a supernatural/horror/mystery anime to watch. Failing that, a good Sci Fi/Fantasy. As long as it's NOT Romance/Girl Hero/Ecchi/Slice of Life/Pure Comedy then I'll probably like it. It needs to have a good story, with at least some good action scenes every so often.

I liked Hellsing, Trinity Blood, Black Blood Brothers, Elfen Lied, Vampire Hunter D, Blood+, Monster and Claymore.

Any others? :P

I'm currently watching Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) but I'm looking for something a bit more dark/actiony if you know what I mean. I love anime that makes you go "Whoooaaah awesome" and think "Damn that Protagonist is well powerful and cool". Haha.

I usually hate anime that has "Fan Service" :P Anything else ? Not into sex reference comedy.

Edit:

I picked Ga-Rei, using Anime Recommendations website. hehe. Hopefully it's good.

I'm presuming you don't mind some of the above being included as small sections of the show as long as that's not the focus?
These come to mind:

Horror/Mystery:
Higurashi (S1/2 ignore 3)
Shiki

Sci-Fi/Fantasy:
Crest/Banner of the Stars Saga
Dance in the Vampire Bund
Texhnolyze (quite dark)

As you seem to like shounen style shows from your comments towards the end of your post, perhaps try out FullMetal Alchemist, as that might press some of your buttons :)
Perhaps also Chrno Crusade (it starts out a bit monster of the week, but the ending is pretty strong) or SpeedGrapher?
