The AMD Driver Thread

Hey can you elaborate on this? Is this under a specific scenario in chrome, like with video playback? Does the same occur in Firefox?

By crashes, are you talking about Chrome CTDs, TDRs, system crashes? Do you have any dmp or log files pertaining to these?

Cheers

Not full on crash, it's like it's out of memory, videos drop frames, things lag, pages don't load correctly. Starts off fine but quickly bugs out. I think it is video related. Happens in edge as well.

1 thing that I find annoying as hell that seems to have been around for multiple years is the overlay to show temps, Clocks etc... randomly just stops working and doesn't appear in games, The system then requires a reboot to fix it.

Favourite thing with this latest driver is that it no longer launches Adrenalin every single time my PC came out of sleep. I have mine on a relatively short sleep timer so it felt like I was seeing Adrenalin 30x a day.

Asking for help please.
I'm diagnosing a crashing computer from a friend and basically the computer restarts every time the 6600XT is under load. I've managed to get it stable by underclocking the GPU core.

The GPU in question is a HP OEM 6600XT.

Now I guess I can save this profile on the Adrenaline software.
I can also use morepowertool, but the SPPT will be wiped every time the driver is updated.

I was wondering if there is any way to mod the 6600XT bios to take a lower core clock?

Done a couple of hours of googling and can't see if this is possible, something about Navi 2x needing a signed bios?
(Basically I just want a set and forget, so I don't need to keep being tech support)

I wouldn't bother with the hassle tbh, just use Afterburner to set the lower clock on launch and also to start minimised with Windows. I wouldn't (and don't) use Wattman as it can be unreliable and reset clocks randomly.

@JediFragger yeah AB is also an option though my thought process was to try and bake the lower clocks into bios so I can avoid needing to install additional programs (which may or may not be tampered with/inadvertently deleted and then causing the crashes again)

Was the gpu in the pc from HP? What's the rating of the psu? I have seen quite a few HP machines that have cut things too fine with psu power.
No, think he bought it the 6600xt from eBay a couple years ago. Running on a 550w PSU.

I've tried the 6600xt in my spare computer (750w gold) and has the same issue so definitely not power related.

It's a decent backup option at worst though @tamzzy :)

I'd love to use Wattman but just find it too unreliable.
There gotta be something else on your system that causing wattman to be "unreliable" imo. Never seen it myself on any of the PCs I'm managing(family, friends, my own). The only time wattman has been resetting is when windows isn't being shutdown properly and that is a safety feature.

Need to draw your attention to the fact the lighting/shadows is broken in silent hill 2 on AMD apus like on the desktop and steam deck. Ray tracing on looks right but when off everything bugs out.
