The AMD Driver Thread

Twice after starting my PC I've had to reapply the overclock on my 9070. Has anyone experienced similar?
If you go into event viewer (if on windows), are there any crticial errors pointing to crashes on startup/shutdown? Likely not that dire, but Adrenanlin settings resetting was a clue recently that it was happening in my new build.

Otherwise, when I've had Adrenalin not loading settings properly (e.g. insisting on enabling global 60fps frame rate control every reboot), doing a snap export of (the correct) settings then import settings a couple of times fixed it.

Nothing was showing in event viewer until this morning. Critical error, Event ID 41: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Looking online it suggests potential PSU issue. I have a 750w 80+ gold. Have a Ryzen 7 5700x, Sapphire Pulse 9070, 2 Sata SSD, 1 m.2 SSD. the 750w should be more than enough for this. Came from a 3070 that recommend 650w PSU, as does this 9070.

Two things sorted that for me - disabling fast boot, like others have said, and in: edit power plan > advanced power settings > PCI Express > Link state power management changing the setting to ‘off’.

Never had the issue on Windows 11 23H2, but doing the above on 24H2 sorted it for me.
disabled fast boot and that seems to have worked. Just changed the link state power management also.

I’d check that your power supply has a single 12v rail. If it’s dual that could be a problem.

Any of you have issues with Chromium based browsers and hardware acceleration on driver version 25.3.1? I've just installed it today and been getting black screen flickering every time I make a chromium based browser window active.

I use Edge and not had any problems. But different Gpu sadly.

Can confirm, firefox and local media playback messed up as well as freesync playing up, being activated on the desktop with media playback. Rolled back to august drivers.

How is freesync not working for you? brightness flicker? Ive seen a bit of it but usually only during load screens. Never had any on my old 6950XT.

Also the override options for signal noise improvements and etc are gone on my 9070.

It works but it randomly activates whist browsing or playing media and this leads to flickering and app crashes, hardware acceleration is still messed on some GPUs. 24.8.1 driver is the latest good driver for me.

Same **** that I have issues with

5700x3d, 6800xt, After 25.3 udpate Freesync goes black screen when on multitasking, but only on multitasking in the browser. File explorer multiple windows good, but not two browser windows. Something to do with graphics backend, after switching to Dx12 in /flags, the blackscreen issue will pair with flicering but only in the wondow. Going back to 24.12 solves is instantly. Hot garbagy is what this update is.

Wondered what that was. On a Samsung TV with VRR @120 and 7900xt, for the first time ever it's been dropping out and back in to Game mode (VRR) when on the desktop. Not spotted any patterns yet but only recently also updated to 24H2

I had a simaler problem used ddu re insalled drivers that fixed it for me

I've just done some testing, its freesync for some weird reason causing trouble. Disabling Freesync fixes the black screen flickering in any chromium based browser with hardware acceleration enabled. Otherwise if I want to keep freesync on then I have to disable hardware acceleration in the browser. To provoke the issue I have a browser open and whenever I also have discord(vesktop) open(not minimized) the entire screen starts black flicker as in the monitor turns on and off several times. I also noticed that enabling or disabling Freesync causes the screen to turn off and then on again once. This behaviour didn't happen on this monitor with my old 6950XT.

@AMD_Vik Is this anything AMD is aware of? or do I need to submit a bug report?

That sounds similar to issues I've seen many times with Nvidia with gsync (though not as bad). On Nvidia side of things I had to turn off gsync for the windowed applications and that fixed it, whilst anything running full screen (even if windowed full screen) uses it without issues. I can't recall exactly but I believe I've seen similar setting on AMD.

FYI, even with freesync disabled I still had issues with browser and local media playback but not as frequent, games would crash to desktop as well, though this is not a frequent thing.
