The AMD Driver Thread

Oh I've done this many times! I have mine set to 1130/1550.. I just wondered off for the afternoon/evening while Elder Scrolls was downloading. Doh!

Looks like its shafted my rig :(

Playing Black Mesa, twice now, after about half hr, the buggers just froze with stuttery sound, and ive had to hard restart, checking the logs, its got 2 critical, kernal power, id 41s. :(

Played over an hr last night as well before i went to bed, was bloody fine.

Test other games black mesa being a mod glitches can happen.

Kernel power just means your pc lost power.

Yeah thought it might have had something to do with me having to hard restart, so power would have been lost.

Just ran through a couple of Firestrikes, and it was fine, so will test some more games and benchies as well.

I have had the odd problem with Mesa, like on loading a save, ive ended up at only 20-40fps for some odd reason, and when ive gone back a bit to an earlier save, its been fine, so hopefully it is just that.

Yep, as annoying as answers like this are, tbh guys/gals, when AMD are ready to release, Matt will be one of the first to know and sure he'll post. Other than this, there's no point in asking when they'll be release. I've seen soooo many "when are they going to be released"... and we'll get the same answer.

Obiously Matt has to be careful how he phrases things and can see this in many responses. Is this annoying? Yeah probably to individuals who're holding out for certain aspects whether it's drivers or functionality to enable CF or 144hz gaming or whatever... we're all in the same boat. We want our problem fixing and we want it now.

AMD, quite simply aren't as good or frequent as nVidia in driver optimisations or releases. We know that and deep down both Matt and AMD know this, facts speak for themselves. Forwhatever reason this is, I'm sure Matt and other reps have fed this back to AMD. Whether they'll do anything about this, who knows. However, we all chose AMD because they offer the best VFM the majority of the time... and this is the hit we take. If you don't like it, jump ship... if like me, you'll put up with it great.

I for one am now waiting of CF for Dying Light... is it annoying me? Not really (although I'd love to have all three 290x's pumping this game out as I'm struggling with avg 32-39fps on one 290x... as Matt says, it'll be ready when it's ready. If I'm at a point where I've had enough, I'll jump **** to nVidia... however I'm willing to wait.

1st world problems hey :-)

I see what your saying but for me personally after switching to an AMD card purely to see what the user experience is like before I spend big on a GPU when the die shrink finally arrives its pretty bad.

Not just the lack of support for new games but poor communication with the community. GTA V driver is a perfect example. Nvidia have come out saying there will be a driver and when it will be released, AMD say nothing.

As it stands now I'll be going Nvidia next, we spend between £20-40 on newly released games and ATM AMD are not supporting them until a couple of months after they have released.

The £100ish premium going green and being able to play games on release suddenly doesn't look so bad.

Lol
Man, what games have not been supported on release? Yeah sure couple nvidia games without a crossfire profile but that don't mean single GPUs have no support..

People also seem to be fast to forget that it swings both ways, amd had crossfire support on shadow of mordor before nvidia.. You dont see nvidia users complain there..

And all of a sudden amd didn't release a driver for couple months now people think that's an on going thing? It was a one off, to be fair amd are normal quite reasonable with driver releases one or two a month normally.

The only thing I will agree with you on is communication with the community Could be better..

I think a lot of the annoyance was that when they were delivered they didn't seem to include anything much over the normal 1 month drivers.
Well that and the communication which was generally "I can't talk about it".

EDIT:
Also, every time this thread gets bumped now I check it thinking there might be new drivers released. Force of habit that I developed during the January - March period...

Looks to be just Black Mesa, been playing other games for hrs, running benchies etc..., and alls fine.

I remembered Mesa done it before, a few days ago, not long after id started playing, in the first minute or 2, was that part where you go up the big lift, and outside the shed, that big planes going round and round, soon as i started playing, i went up the lift, ran to the first aid charger on the wall, turned around, started to run up the stairs, then freeze, so had to hard restart, started it up again, and played fine for a couple of hrs.

Now im on the damn bit, where the first chopper comes, it seems to be going all the time after so long.

Its weird, as i played through it fine on my old rig, no issues, so it may just not like my new one :D

Ive also done some research, and it seems it crashes and what not for a lot of people.

Thanks Shanks :)

GTA5 had better have a crossfire profile on release.

I actually wouldn't be too worried about this one. Rockstar said that they've built the game knowing people need multi-gpu for their high end 4k @ 60fps settings. Considering it has both AMD and Nvidia specifics in it we might actually be in for a treat for once :D Their own demo rigs use two cards.

Matt needs to spill the beans here!

All of us waiting to buy new GFX cards need to know, also a release date for the 3XX cards would be nice :D

Hi guys, im having a strange problem with this atm. Got card and installed. All is well until i download drivers. Basically even though it says that the display is 1080p what im seeing on screen must be about only 720p. Looking at a full 1080p image i only see about half.

Any ideas why the drivers would be causing this or should i just uninstall the drivers completely?

Did make my own thread was directed here, cheers

Kernel power just means your pc lost power.

just to confirm for others this does NOT mean its PSU related. anything that causes sudden pc crash/reboot can cause this. Kernel power error

I've had servers show this when Ram has terrible amount of errors causing an instant reboot.

just wanted to let anyone know in case they go looking at their PSU :)

Speaking from experience having just sold my 295 X2, never again AMD, words cannot describe my disappointment, AMD care nothing about their customers, they prove this time and time again, no communication from them regarding drivers, even months after top titles are released still no CF profiles.

It's a shame as the 295 X2 is a fantastic card but unfortunately does not have any proper support despite it being their current flagship card. Crazy really!!

This is not a dig at Matt, I think he does a stand up job. I am simply venting my frustration having spent my hard earned pennies on this card for AMD to turn around and say
