The AMD Driver Thread

@AMDMatt

When CrossFire is enabled, GTA V stutters when driving around. Disabling CF resolves the issue completely. 290X Crossfire on an X79 platform. Very High, FXAA, Advanced settings OFF.

No stutter on mine either (290 Crossfire on Z97 platform running 5760x1080) - runs nice and smooth once I'd turned off all the Advanced settings and put MSAA to off. With the Advanced settings all maxed (I was hoping when I first fired it up!), it stuttered like crazy and was generally in the 20-40 FPS when driving round, but happily at 60FPS when walking/running.

Just discovered a little tip, so anyone having stuttering issues please give this a try and see if it makes any difference.

Audio Setting called 'Auto-Scan for Music' and you have to turn it OFF.

YouTube GPU acceleration wont disable? not sure if this is driver or that fact I changed CPU and Motherboard.. But can anyone please check for me if you use Chrome and watch Youtube does it use your GPU even if Hardware acceleration is disabled.

Thanks

Just give a bit of FarCry4 feedback on the latest driver

CF works very well on FarCry4, it is very smooth and do not have noticeable tearing when I free the tower.

ULTRA + 2x MSAA -> over 60fps in most area
only small shutters (last for like 1 to 2 seconds) in certain areas but it doesnt really affect overall experience.

I have only played it for 4 hours and havent experience any artifacts yet, and that is pretty impressive for Ubisoft.

Makes no difference for poor crossfire performance for 2x 290s. Most of the people having issues with crossfire in GTA V seem to be running at higher refresh, the game does not utilize the cards properly at these higher frame rates, and it's not possible to maintain ~120fps even on lower settings and 1080p without AA. A single card gives much better and more consistent frame rates than two, even more so since the last patch. I am using an i7-4790k @ 4.7GHz and the 15.4 beta driver.

GPU usage is consistently only 40-45% without any frame limiting turned on: https://i.imgur.com/Qy86qBN.png

It feels very similar to trying to play BF4 multiplayer last year in directx 11, could only get a smooth frame rate and proper GPU utilization with mantle.

ive not heard anything Pete no :(

Until AMD do something about Unix I cannot buy them.... even if I wanted to. I cannot support a company that does not support what I need :(

for matt
wanted to point out this

Reviewer using a Trixx 8GB card (of course pre-overclocked) quite a lot of crashing. Could be why some people are seeing lot crashing on AMD? maybe their oc is just not that solid

Thought you should know as if reviewers are showing this It wont help the AMD Cause & may help AMD Driver team

Matt any recommendations on what to do with GTA 5 and vsync for a single 290 i.e. just use in game or better to use some config with radeon pro?

Anyone here on GTAV with a 4670k + 290

Wondering what settings you run for good looks and good performance as I can't get the right balance

Advanced settings just seem to hammer FPS

I have to play with MSAA on otherwise the game looks **** I think

Im running @ these settings, 1080p, 144Hz (specs in sig, 5930Ks @ 3.8GHz, 290s @ 1080/1250), runs superb, 60+ during the day (and in the cities), out in the countryside with lots of grass (which is now on High), i sit just under 50fps, and at night, its anywhere from 60-100+, mostly sitting in the 70s. :)

These are my settings :-

Now got Grass on High (as Ultra kills it), and put the Reflection MSAA back on, as that doesn't seem to affect the frame-rate.
