The AMD Driver Thread

Yeah it does mean more jaggies which sucks. FXAA doesn't cause the artifacting but I personally don't think it's as good as MSAA. The issue has been raised with AMDMatt so he'll work his magic and get it sorted hopefully!

Leave msaa on and turn down postfx to high or normal, the artifacting should be gone.

I use Vsync without issue without RadeonPro, it smooths things out a bit. Might be worth capping 1-5fps below the vsync limit for even smoother performance.

Why do ccc gaming settings hardly ever work in games? I cant apply vsync in GTA5 via catalyst and we still dont have the options like adaptive which nvidia have had for ages. Right now I have to play with vsync off. i could get radeonpro to work but its vsync was no better than ingame, though usually rpro works great for me at keeping things smooth.

Vsync in CCC is for OpenGL only and its been that way since Windows Vista but it may change in the future due to Freesync which you can force Vsync in DX games in CCC when outside of the Adaptive sync range so why not let everyone have the option.

Ok thanks.

Just messing around with MSI afterburner now, could you post your settings for the monitoring tab/section please.

Also, should I bother with a fan profile for my MSI 290 twin frzr? Max temps it goes to is about 80 with a fan speed of about 50-60%

Got an annoying problem the only seems to be getting worse. Since buying my R9 290 my screen will randomly go black but if I have a song playing in background it will still be playing so I know computer hasn't froze. It can happen randomly whenever I'm browsing the web but never when gaming. Have to restart to get display back. I do get a weird glitch on my screen during POST.

It could be the HDMI to VGA adapter I'm having to use since my monitor doesn't support DVI or HDMI. Got a DVI to VGA adapter arriving in post tomorrow so will see if that solves the problem. If not it has to be a driver/hardware issue as I used an adapter on my previous card with was an Nvidia one and never had any a problem like this.

I have the exact same problem, I thought it might be an issue with my 4k samsung monitor or DP cable so I'm quite glad to read this.

Matt, there still going to be another round of drivers this month?

I know it was promised for the freesync/crossfire guys, but I am hoping for some slight chance they may get crossfire working for Elite.

290 doesn't support vga iirc, that could be why.

Further to my post about GTA V artifacting which was cured by altering the post fx setting i'm now getting this. :(

I actually noticed something similar in Cities Skylines although much less obvious than this. Card is at stock factory settings (not OC'd as in my sig) and temps in the 60's.

Is my card nerfed? :(

Oh right. Could explain a few things. Did you read that somewhere? I also tried a DVI-D to VGA adapter but monitor wouldn't pick up an input from the card at all.

Would buy a newer monitor but got car insurance due end of month.

edit: looks like you're right having just looked it up online. I'll have to see if I can get some funds together.

Lack of vga is quite annoying as thats the only way I can get the tv (secondary screen) to display pixel perfect 1366x768, hdmi doesn't cut it with a scaled 720p res. I currently use a display port to vga adaptor which is perfect, but I will want that display port back if I upgrade to a new monitor soon as planned.

:(

Since its late and i cant ask OCUK bods will the RMA be handled by them or will I have to go to HIS directly?

Iirc isn't it first year OcUK then his after that his? Does it happen all the time or after a long gaming session? My 7970 would do similar when I had it overclocked - someone said it could be VRM temps creeping up. Try cleaning out the cooler with compressed air and making sure you have enough air getting into your case...

Do you not have a TV or something you could use in the mean time until you can afford a new monitor? There's some pretty cheap monitors on OcUk as a stop gap?

I have a TV mounted on wall on opposite side of room would but require me moving whole room around to put my desk there and I'd be sat really really close to a 49" screen which would be no good for my eyes. It could be do-able as a stop gap though if I really wanted to.
