The AMD Driver Thread

Exactly. When amd released the certified 15.15 drivers for the 300 series cards, why couldnt they have released that for the 200 series at the same time so we all gained?

Wouldn't of looked as good for the 300 Series cards imo , i dont see any other reason

Not really. Maybe in windows 10 beta but not in 8.1 and 7. The best official drivers for 7/8.1 are 15.5 which have 10 to 20% less performance than the 15.15 drivers for the 300 series cards. Hence lots of review sites been called out on testing the 300 series with 15.5 drivers and 15.15 and showing only 1 to 2 fps gain with the new 300 cards.

Hence 300 look better in reviews and current 200 owners not running windows 10 beta lose out.

If you know your way around a operating system, you can install the windows 10 drivers on 8.1 and enjoy the extra performance. Go to guru3D

Im running them now with modded inf and have found no problems or issues on my 290x on windows 7, just performance gains in all games.

I tried the hacked drivers and they mucked up VLC and other video software.
Yes I tried to install my media players again but nope.

I have :) But I mean I shouldnt have had to do this, I should have access to the same drivers that 300 series have now.

Exactly. I dont doubt that the 300 is slightly faster than the same 200 card by a few fps. But when i first saw reviews of the 390 and it was 10 to 20% more fps than the 290 i was scratching my head going how have they got such a big increase.

Seeing reviews where they are both running the same driver has made me realise that unless u need the 8gb of ram, a 290/290x will be just as powerful

Yup its bad business tactics. Just to make the new cards look like a worthy upgrade when they arent.

Its probably why we havent seen any new drivers for months as these were ready to go ages ago.

No it's good business practise as most people are not in the loop and will see the new cards are superior. Amd need to survive and tbh they need to get dirty like NV to do so. I have a 290 and want the drivers myself but i am willing to wait as if it's a NV only market i fear PC gaming will go the way of the rich.

Not happy but i know i will receive the boost when the launch is over. If you had a Kepler card i doubt this would apply. When these new drivers hit the 290/x are going to look a rather good buy compared to a 7 series Nvidia card. My 290 pcs+ should in theory be as fast as a launch £550 780ti and after selling the games it only cost me £170. It's already faster than a stock £800 Titan.

It really sucks that AMD seem to be holding back these performance optimisations all because they have to make the 3xx look good in reviews :(

+1, the Xfire Freesync drivers coming out with the new cards, when they were supposed to be out in April, is no coincidence.

As it wouldn't have made their 3 series look better, more attractive to buy.

As the 3s wouldn't have looked that good over them.

New cards dont have freesync yet either.. 15.15 is the same driver release has 15.5 everything is the same.. The driver you thinking of isn't released yet 15.30

the 15.20 leaked ones have freesync xfire support. Is that what you are referring to?

And the 15.15 have various performance advantages over 15.5 too. I got 9.1% better score in 3dmark with the 15.15 over the 15.5.

Do they not, i thought those 300 only drivers had the Xfire Freesync.

Ahh well, they'll be out with Fury then. :p

The 10.30 bring even more nice stuff to the party though.

AMD is releasing a two-phase driver release with Catalyst 15.15 and 15.20
. The 15.15 drivers are available immediately, and the 15.20 drivers are coming a few weeks later.

The Catalyst 15.15 drivers bring new features like:
FPS Targeting - The ability to save power by setting a maximum FPS target
Virtual Super Resolution - The ability to down scale a game from a high
resolution to a lower resolution, giving a user higher-quality textures in game
(also known as supersampling)
Performance optimizations:
Adding game performance optimizations to AMD R9 Fury Xand other graphics cards.

Although Catalyst 15.15 drivers will not be available for Windows 10, Catalyst
15.20 will be.
The Catalyst 15.20 drivers will bring features like:
Catalyst Uninstaller:Allows users to uninstall their AMD catalyst drivers
cleanly, so new drivers can be installed without incident.
OpenCL 2.0 optional features.
Multiple performance and feature additions
FreeSync + CrossFire:The ability to run FreeSync dynamic screen refresh
technology with multiple GPUs in CrossFire mode.

Catalyst 15.20 divers will also have Windows 10 specific features like:
HEVC(High Efficiency Video Codec):Enables quality streaming and 4K
experiences
DirectX 12:Support for the low-level efficient graphics API for Windows 10
Windows 10 WHQL(Windows Hardware Quality Lab)

AMD’s latest driver release (15.20) will be WHQL and WHQL for Windows 10 as well

Yeah they have but dont fully work yet I believe. Latest Offical driver is 15.15 3x and 15.5 2x these dont have freesync xfire. Am not sure how you got better results in 15.15 because the 3ddriver etc is the same as 15.5 nothing new in it.. You still have 15.15 running? care to copy and past software information?

Im on the AMD Catalyst 15.x (15.200.1040.0 June 8) driver and not the 15.15 one. And CFX with FreeSync definitely in these. :)

But the 15.15 are as follows

DriverVer=06/11/2015, 15.150.0.0000
1506152108-15.15-150611a-185375E

And there is this too

According to PCGH (it's German, use Google Translate) Catalyst 15.15 has huge Tessellation improvements.

32x Tessellation is 2.5 times faster on Tonga (R9 285). Hawaii (R9 290X) is + 80%, compared to Catalyst 15.5 Beta.
