The AMD Driver Thread

Just found this on it.

http://www.144hzmonitors.com/freesync/

Which says.

AMD has worked on a solution to the problems connected to the “VSYNC ON” option: FreeSync. They have worked with VESA (Video Electronics Standard Association) to add support for Adaptive Sync into the DisplayPort 1.2a standard, which AMD then utilizes in their FreeSync technology. Actually, FreeSync monitors began shipping as of March 2015 and it will be exciting to see how well the developers and gamers will adopt it. It is an optional feature, however, so we won’t expect a lot of monitors with this feature built in them. AMD is working with monitor manufacturers, so we will see a handful of displays hit the market soon. With AMD FreeSync, you will not get screen tearing or visual latency, you typically know from having VSYNC disabled. You won’t get the stuttering and input lag associated with VSYNC enabled either.

Sounds like you can use them both together. :)

Taken from a review.

So why is FreeSync a better option than G-Sync? Isn't the main benefit to adaptive sync provided through both technologies?

Yes, regardless of whether you choose FreeSync or G-Sync, you'll get the crucial variable refresh feature that improves your gaming experience significantly. But FreeSync provides an extra collection of features that G-Sync doesn't, most notably the ability to choose to have v-sync enabled or disabled for refresh rates outside the variable range. This is especially handy for situations where frame rates are below the minimum refresh rate: G-Sync's choice to force v-sync on introduces stutter and an extra performance hit below the minimum refresh, which can be resolved on FreeSync by disabling v-sync.

Sounds like you can have both, just with it on, if you go outside the range, then you'll get the stutter and the performance hit, that you wont get with it off.

Should be fine for me having v-sync always disabled in game, as ive never seen below 40 yet :p, just really noticed it in the Metros the tearing, but that could be just those games, being locked at 60, and as i said above, i dropped my cap down to 100 from 143 in LL in AB, and never noticed any for the good hr or so i just played.

Yeah I just going to keep playing with 135fps I have only had issues mostly in CSGO and TF2 when testing I get screen tear in them games. I wouldn't lock my frame rate in them games anyways.
Fifa 16 is a pain though because for some strange reason it locks to 60hz freesync don't work if left on No fps limit. FPS will be 200 but screen will be 60hz can't match up.

Work around is to use AMD FRTC at 60fps this forces game to stay within the 60hz and freesync works.

Apart from that every game I have played works great. Battlefront is really good.

Yeah im just gona leave v-sync off too, and cap my frames with AB, as i was doing, must just be the Metros, as i do get a stutter in them as well at certain parts, and i know for definite 2033 had a stutter problem, but i solved that the last time i played it (which was eons ago) by using D3DOvers Triple Buffering, but i cant get that working now, and may have been the same for LL, as not played that for eons either, just can't remember, getting old :p

Matt, the driver download page you've linked still links to the 15.9.1 driver package. You can get the 15.10 by going through the front page/drop down menus to select your OS/GPU.

Yeah, it's good to see another new driver, even we mostly get Ashes of singularity boost, coupled with some fixes. Now we just need that updated link :)
