Aside from this crimson driver, I don't recall of myself or others having many problems at all especially since omega, AMD have always been pretty rock solid, yes mutli-gpu support isn't there on day/week 1 for most games but the drivers themselves have been very stable.
This is the first driver in a long time that has had so many issues and tbh given that it is based on completely different software or whatever, I can't say that I am surprised although a lot of the stuff should have been caught by their "testing team"....
I agree Nexus, i guess i didn't word it all that well tbh, recent drivers have had fewer issues, i meant in the sense that, i feel, IMHO, that AMD are maybe relying on customers to do a bit to much fault finding/reporting.
Don't get me wrong, i understand that there will always be issues, no doubt adding to that is the fact that i'm a MPGPU user, but at the same i feel it's unfair to just be able to use that as an excuse.
here's the Spiel off AMD's site.
Harness the power of multiple GPUs
AMD CrossFire™ technology is the ultimate multi-GPU performance gaming platform. Unlocking game-dominating power, AMD CrossFire™ harnesses the power of two or more discrete graphics cards working in parallel to dramatically improve gaming performance.1 AMD CrossFire™ technology ready graphics cards fit practically every budget. With the flexibility to combine two, three or four GPUs, AMD CrossFire™ technology is the perfect solution for those who demand extreme performance.
Delivering Extreme Performance
By combining the intelligent software algorithms of the AMD Catalyst™ suite with dedicated scaling logic in each AMD graphics processor, a gaming rig equipped with AMD CrossFire™ technology can deliver several times the performance of a system with a single graphics card.2,3 That’s performance you can count on to build your empire, take the pole position or keep your platoon alive.
See It in Extreme Detail
Let other people worry about optimal settings and resolutions. Multiple AMD Radeon™ graphics processors give you and your system the power to see every game just as the developer intended: in up to extreme high definition, with razor sharp clarity and uncompromising detail.
I wanted all this, it's the reason i spent so much of my money on their top cards after all, but for 95% of the time, that's not the experience I've had.
The only games i've played recently allowing me to enjoy the experience were:
Metro redux
Crysis 3
I had/have problems with:
BF4- Crashing constantly using Direct X and Mantle, fixed by disabling CF
GTAV- Ran worse for a very long time using CF, disabled it.
FO4- no profile, disabled CF
HD- Bonkers wait, no comms on a profile or sitrep, disabled CF
Basically i have a 600 quid paperweight in my system as it's just not being used.
I guess i'm rambling now, to summarise.
I don't hate AMD, i'm a huge fan.
Their MGPU support has gone to **** lately.
Their communication with customers is shocking bad.
Drivers on the whole are great, i loved the look of Crimson, but the issues that we have IMO should have been picked up on by the testing team.
