The AMD Driver Thread

Even the AMD reps don't answer me. What a great support AMD gives. They broke the drivers when releasing Windows 10 drivers support and now they are ignoring us for 6 months. Typical AMD behavior. I'm starting to get used to that. I'm the stupid one still buying their crap cards. It is not like I'm a bad customer, last 4 years: Trifire 6970, Quad HD 7970 and now Quad R9 290x. Next will be pascal.

Screw AMD.

Starting to get a bit ticked off myself. Spent a fortune on a Fury card and the new drivers totally suck. I get random driver crashes, and sometimes my monitors just turn off saying 'no input'. Had to go back to Catalyst 15.11 to get it stable.
I've had AMD/ATI cards for years (3870>4870>5770>6950>7970>Fury), but these constant driver fiascos are starting to test my loyalty.

Sold one of my fury X's, it's been an extremely disappointing and frustrating period with AMD, the cards are excellent, but the support, communication with customers and drivers have been truly shocking. were it not for the fact i bought a FS monitor to go along side my cards, I'd have swapped the lot by now.

Going to hold out for the new cards now in the hope that AMD can sort it out, sadly can't see me going back to team red though.

This isn't a AMD are better than Nvidia post nor is it meant to undermine or belittle your negative experience, it's a reminder that the grass is not always greener when you go green :)

The problem with driver related issues is we only see from our own narrow perspective when it affects us personally. All the while you had been having issues with your CF Fury X setup Nvidia were having some very serious driver problems at the time Witcher 3 was released. It was horrible for months with fairly constant CTDs for a lot of people. There must have been 4-5 attempts at fixing Nvidia drivers around May-Aug. I know this because I had a 980Ti at that time and there were a lot of very aggravated Nvidia users.

I went to AMD Fury for Freesync and got a more stable driver experience as a bonus. While the first iteration of the Crimson drivers caused massive core clock fluctuations in a couple of games for some AMD recovered well with a very quick hotfix version. I was affected by the core clock drops but with the new driver I am not getting any issues at all on a single Fury Tri-X.

I got the hotfix driver for my Fury (Strix air cooled), but it didn't help. I still get random game crashes. Sometimes windows reports that the driver stopped working and has 'recovered', and other times the game freezes and then my monitor turns off because it's not getting a signal. Only way out is a hard reset.
It's working fine again on the last Catalyst version.

Fellow Belfast man BTW :)

Is this all at stock? Maybe try the latest Strix BIOS files here. It specifically addresses performance and stability. It's just an exe file that does the updates automatically.

Or if you prefer not to use a direct link go to Asus Fury Strix support page and chose an OD then BIOS.

Both companies have issues, I agree. Gsync issues for Nvidia were going on for months, and probably just fixed, 144hz bugs and so on. The list of issue is big with the Nvidia indeed.

However AMD isn't that better atm. 6 months since 15.7 and they haven't fixed the damn things they broke. We have to use 3rd party software to make our system work.
Even this morning, after installing W10 (believed had issues with W7 last night), going to play Attila with CF and the screen is flickering like I am watching a recording of a CRT monitor.

Here is a pic, but doesn't show the flickering, and I have CF on. With CF ON is flashing.

the asus trick worked with me on my 390 on the latest drivers with the core clock issues :) (crimson 15.12)

I have removed Asus. MSI AB supports custom 2D clocks, so I have set them from there and basically I keep it stock at everything.

Apparently my system just doesn't want to play ball today.

Been stuck on this for 20 minutes now, after already closing it 3 times..

Oh the automated installer thats been broken for ages had to d/l it manually for a long time now. Usually though it says its downloaded the latest driver when it hasn't and then says "you have teh latest driver installed" when you try again and you havnt. Marvellous.

n.b anyone tried removing Crimson drivers? It simply won't remove itself properly have to DDU it everytime. On both an R9 390 and a 7950. Priceless.

Not had the problems you're describing, either on the automatic installer or uninstaller (uninstalled the Crimson 15.11.1 drivers before putting the 15.12 on). Could it be maybe there's an issue elsewhere on your system that's causing the issues you're seeing rather than a flaw in the drivers/installer themselves? Have you tried with your anti-virus turned off to see if that's getting in the way?

If I'm honest, in your position I'd probably be trying a fresh Windows install but I know that's more hassle to some than others so don't want to suggest that until you've ruled out everything else first.

Just bought COD Black Ops 3 after playing it on a friends PS4. Only want it for Free4All
Must say it runs superb, 1440p all high settings I avg close to 90fps looks great also.

had a few hours of playing killing floor 2 last night and my 390 didn't o over 62C, that's 30C cooler than my last gpu lol

clock speeds been fine since using the asus tool and had no further issues
