The AMD Driver Thread

Hi
how do i install 16.7.2 i have 16.7.3 installed and running but i want the memory oc to 2200. i downloaded whql-win7-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-16.7.2 but not sure if thats the full package to get wattman etc .

any help would be welcome

Best practice is to:

1. Download the desired version from AMD (the one you picked looks right, but usually it's a case of going for the one with the biggest file size :P)
2. Use the DDU software (http://www.wagnardmobile.com/?q=display-driver-uninstaller-ddu-) to remove all instances of the current driver.
3. Restart
4. Install the drivers, ticking all the software you want (amd settings i think is the one with Wattman).
5. Restart again
6. Don't update to 16.7.3 when the software prompts you.

Anyone experienced issues with the latest 16.7.3 drivers on an R9 290? i installed them the other week and they were fine, then the Win10 anniversary update came along, installed that and i started getting freezing during gaming, the whole game would freeze for approx 3 or so seconds, happened on WoW and Diablo 3, didnt try any other games..

So i DDU uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, figured the Win10 update may have borked something, still getting the freezing but i also started getting flickering in game, and artifacts..

Uninstalled 16.7.3 and went back to 16.7.2 and none of flickering or artifacting anymore... However still getting the ingame freezing, which i believe to be something windows 10 update has done, i have a spare 500GB Sammy 850 Evo SSD i am going to install Win10 on and test with.

Just wondered if anyone else had issues with 16.7.3 and flickering / Artifacts? found it odd it run a week or so with the update without issues before i updated Win10, but since the upgrade i cant run those drivers without problems.

Very odd.

From Matt on twitter...

''You'll need 16.7.3 for the 470. Don't think the device ID for the 470 is in 16.7.2, which would explain what you are seeing.''

''It's a bug, we'll fix it.''

Thanks matt any information on Freesync Desktop Flicker? Install these now and report back. Windows 10 August 2nd update seemed to have fixed it for a little bit for me but next day it was back again.

Let me know if it exists in these drivers and I'll file a ticket.

Yep still the same for me. Even when I alt-tab out of CSGO desktop flicker is back.

Drop me an email with the details please mate. Full system specs including monitor + cable, reproduction steps, DXDIAG, and a video showing the issue (if you have one) would be handy.

Will do, won't be able to show video because desktop recording wont show what the monitor is doing, and a camera on a phone recording a display picks up the backlight flicker anyway.

With 16.8.1 my rx480 runs at maxium clock constantly with no down-clocking and wattman is showing 100% gpu usage even though no other apps are running.

Is anyone else seeing this?

I now have this exact same problem, I thought it was a mining virus, as my GPU is running at 100% both in wattman and GPU-z.
Windows defender and Malwarebytes hasnt found anything, now trying stopzilla, but thought I'd check here to see if its a possible driver problem

Tsk tsk

some of you complain about flickering on Freesync, others have no Freesync -_-
