The AMD Driver Thread

not a happy bunny
memory oc is only up to 2100
core oc sticks at max clocking
wattman stutters on screen
pulling to much wattage up to 130 watts eeven when under volted and minus power limit
ive had to reboot more times than i care to count
also done at least 3 clean installs.

card is a sapphire Radeon RX 470 Nitro+ OC 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express RGB Graphics Card

Maybe am also using xl2730z
Also noticed the OSD of the display screen info doesn't change to show correct information.
For example if I select 120hz osd will still show 144hz

Quite possibly, good shout that. We need some other freesync users with different screens to post their findings.

Have both of you replaced the DP cable that came with your XL2730Z, with one that fully supports 144Hz eg. Accell B142C-007B DisplayPort to DP Latching Cable?

The DP cable that comes with some of these monitors does not support DP 1.2 spec, mine didn't and I should have really complained to Benq and demanded a free replacement, instead of spending ~£13 at Amazon (but showing unavailable now).

I have had this cable before sending the monitor to BenQ in January to replace it with a refub one, because the flickering on the monitor even when wasn't connected to the PC but was ON. (completely different issue than the Freesync flickering).

I've actually got that Accell DP cable, and about 6 others to as I was trying to figure out a black screen issue when I did my watercooling project. Tried other cables but still flickering.

About 3 weeks ago I purchased £20 Lindy 2m DisplayPort and still get blurred on small text (look like interlace) at 2560x1440 144z. Anything 1080p and below is ok. Not sure weather it's drivers related or hardware.
Let's hope it's a drivers issue.

Why would you do that?

If you can get 480's for the same money it should be a no brainer.

i didnt want a screaming overheating leaf blower but just looking at the prices of the 480 ref cards they are more expensive than the 470 custom card i brought tbh whats letting AMD down is wattman and a lack of stock

Since upgrading from my 290 to a 1070 I have found that my icons do not move positions when the monitor goes to sleep. My research before showed it was related to display port as when using HDMI it did not happen. Yet now it is no longer an issue. My 295x2 had the same issue also.

Could it be the newer DP on the 1070 somehow fixed it? Maybe a driver issue?

Edit: To clarify, before when on my 7970, 290 and 295x2 when I would turn the monitor off and on again, the icons would be all over the place. Now on a 1070, every stays where it should. I recall it being said that it was related to display port not being active and when it went to sleep it would default to a lower resolution, hence the problem. This was why I remember wanting my next monitor to be HDMI 2. I also recall chatting with someone else here who had the same issue and it was something that he took into account when buying his monitor. As I recall he ended up getting the newer Dell UP3214Q which had HDMI 2 which fixed his issue.

R9-295x with a Samsung 4k60 freesync screen, no flickering when I alt-tab to desktop.

Freesync seems to be working fine here, with the notable exception being Overwatch.

Check your desktop settings. Thats windows configuration

Finally had a chance to test the new drivers. All working now in terms of OC. No problems with GPU usage or Fan speeds. And actually wattman seems a lot more stable than before. I'm not seeing any more stuttering or crashes.

I think somehow this maybe related to this particular monitor. As when I looked it up online I was not the only one with the issue.

Definitely not that. I format at least two times a year or when I get a new graphics card and use same settings. I remember even looking it up to solve the issue in windows nearly two years ago when I got this monitor, but it was not that.

With this monitor I have had a 7970, 290 and 295x2 and all had the issue. This is why I thought I would post here about it, as it could be AMD related.

But you wrote about the gtx1070 having the issue and not which monitor you have

Im still on the 16.3 hotfixes, that brought the Power Efficiency toggle, and not having any problems with them at all, they are fine in all the games ive got lined up to play, apart from DOOM, as want to play that under Vulkan (as get a weird grid problem under OpenGL), but i'll upgrade to a newer set when i get around to it, as im only going to update now, when i need to, not everytime a driver comes out like i used to, as its just not worth it for all the problems the new ones bring, as they say, if it aint broke.....

I also have Freesync problems, and as already mentioned it hasn't started with this specific driver version (unfortunately...)

Using a Fury with an Asus MG279Q.
