The AMD Driver Thread

Quick Q, is it worth keeping up to date with the drivers on older cards.
I've a 280x and it keeps bugging me to update the driver (not updated it in 12 months or so now) but I see little point from the change logs?

Personally, I'd say yes.

There's always a good argument to say 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' and to only update when or if it fixes a known issue you have or adds support for a game you are playing but - imo - a fair bit has happened the last year and 12 months is a long time to be out of date. Things like DX12 and Vulkan support have probably matured a bit and - seemingly at least - most AMD users getting a nice performance bump since the ReLive drivers.

As long as your PC isn't mission critical to something then the worst is spending an hour or so benching before and after - to see if it was worth it - installing the newer drivers and then potentially rolling back if you're not happy. You don't always need to be on the very latest - so can avoid non WHQL drivers etc - but I think it's worth being at least n-1 or 2 from the latest.

280X is an old card but remember it is still a flavour of GCN, so can still benefit from perf updates. Not saying it will be night and day but you may be pleasantly surprised.
Though, do at own risk etc etc.

The mic volume is so low in relive, lowering the game would not help. I would have to have the game pretty much muted for the mic to be clearly heard over it.

It's not for streaming or anything that can be added after. Just playing a game with friends, something funny happens, use instant replay to save it. So not commentary that can be added back.

The mic volume in windows is set to max. Everything else the mic is clear and a resonable volume, only relive has the issue of it being really low.

I hope someone can help, this is enough to make me drink... oh wait to late..

I fitted an XFX RX480 GTR black edition earlier. Forgot to unplug the ethernet. turned the pc on went to get a coffee, came back and found windows had installed an older version of the driver and software.

Downloaded the newer version, uninstalled the windows 10 provided version, rebooted installed the newer version driver and software, seemed to install fine, rebooted go to open up the radeon settings and it says that it can't find any AMD hardware.

Have tried DDU in safe mode and then tried to reinstall, but now is moans about ati radeon driver is unsigned.
So rebooted with the driver signature enforcement disabled, but the same message comes up about the driver being unsigned.

The bios isn't completely up to date, weather that makes any difference. I'll try it with a newer release tomorrow.

ATM I've gotten the windows provided software and driver which seems to work fine, it may just be I'm updating for the sake of it, but it's bugging me why it won't work.

Anyone any ideas?

I tested mic other day and mine was perfectly fine? Can even do a little test video later if it matter or you want to hear my sexy voice :D

The mic I use is blue snowball USB

Mine is not usb. Wonder if it's that, maybe amd expect everyone to be using usb gamer headsets etc.

I've tried with both the onboard sound and a soundblaster Z, both are low, but only in relive. It's a modmic 4.0 and it's fine everywhere else. Easy issue to fix if AMD just let you adjust mic volume in relive.

Anyone any ideas?
In the Control Panel, go to System and click Advanced system settings to open the System Properties window.
Open the Hardware tab and click Device Installation Settings.
When prompted with this message, click No and click Save Changes.

It'll stop windows downloading 'its' drivers.

I found the recent ones to not bug me any more. Might be worth updating as the latest ones reenable async for GCN 1.0 cards like your 280X.

Definitely, You're sure to get some performance improvements if you're currently running year old drivers.

Make sure to put a ticket in about it with AMD

Microsoft's intrusiveness is really annoying, Not everyone wants them holding there hands and telling them what they need to do, I wish there was a worthwhile second choice OS.

Known bug, just use an earlier driver for now. We're on it.

Probably a silly question, but....

Apart from the obvious having a new gfx card supported by Relive (I have an RX480), are there any other requirements for recording/playback thing to work? CPU, OS, Memory etc.
I more often than not get a crash, even at boot at times, of the Relive software even when running on lowest settings.
Tried driver 16.? & the latest, same results.

If I leave Relive turned off, I have no problems, but then obviously can't record.

Anyone on windows 10 having issues with amd drivers, regarding crashes/bsod ?

Reason why I'm asking is that I'm on windows 7, with a new pc and getting bsod with atikmpag.sys as the culprit. Google tells me that the problem is only on windows 7. I'm tempted to upgrade to 10 to get rid of these issues.

*edit* Installed windows 10 earlier and straight away a bsod. Still the same driver. Looks like a new thread for help or a dodgy card :(

Nope solid here on 10, did find a bug in ESO with grass flickering (just turn off grass for temp fix or roll back to previous drivers) with latest drivers but have reported that to AMD.

Btw is your card factory overclocked?... Try a lower OC value. My old factory OC Nvidia card years ago was never stable at default OC setting, had to reduce it by 10Mhz.

Thanks for reply.

My card is a Sapphire RX480 Nitro, and set as the higher speed. BUT after going back to Win7, and a bit more Googling helped as I 'expanded' a .sy driver into a .sys driver, replaced and so far had no bsod's.

Ok, after having the division in dx 12 mode crashing on me a fair bit lately, I'm going to try the new relive drivers out...

Is there a way I can get the same undervolt through AMD control panel that I have for MSI AB?

You can lower voltage with wattman but it's a percentage, so I not sure what percentage will give you - 31

Ok thanks.

@AMDMatt

Any idea about the above?

Or anyone for that matter?

Also, noticed that a check compatibility for the game profiles has been added:

5ZQyvPE.png

What does this mean? Why do some have no ticks? Why do some have 1 tick but others have 2 ticks? I'm guessing the ones, which have no ticks means that the profile won't apply at all....

Never seen ticks before

If you click all profiles, there should be a check compatibility option.

EDIT:

@TonyTurbo78

What are the other settings you use in AMD?

EDIT:

Wondering if it is better to not have wattman enabled at all and just let MSI AB do the voltage stuff?

EDIT:

Ok, tony just pointed out you can hover over the ticks lol.. It is about meeting the requirements for the game, so one tick is min., you have 2 ticks, you then meet the recommended PC requirements.
