The AMD Driver Thread

As someone that has used an Nvidia GPU since 2012 how as your experiences with AMD GPU's been during this time 2012 - 2017?

Could go AMD for my next card when Vega launches but it will be quite a departure for me as I am comfortably Green. It meets my needs and makes me happy.

I've just gone an upgraded to a Ryzen CPU, so I am obviously now firmly open to the possibility of an AMD GPU.

How has day one support for new titles been with AMD? what about support and performance in titles that are Green?

One thing I've brought up before is my need for an Adaptive vsynch solution driver side. I understand you can buy Free Sync monitors but thats an additional £400-£500 on top of a £300-£400 GPU and I may not be prepared to pay that at present.

In the Nvidia drivers I can use adaptive vsynch and I get a decent level of none tearing in my games. It's not perfect as I do still get tearing but that might be due to lower frames rather than higher frames.

So assuming I don't go free synch and I buy an AMD Vega GPU what adaptive vsynch options do I have?

Great for me, however, the relive drivers have been **** for me.

No adaptive vsync or any worthwhile options for AMD. I can get a very good gaming experience with some tweaks though i.e.

- try borderless windowed mode out as sometimes it can be smoother/better since it uses windows vsync method
- enable in game vsync and use fullscreen mode and cap your FPS via rivatuner/AMD control panel, either to match your monitor refresh rate or 1-2 FPS below your monitor refresh rate, this can also completely reduce the input lag associated with in game vsync

Zero tearing even if the FPS is low.

For the other stuff:

- day 1 support has been great for a long time now (only 1 title I had a problem with for the first few weeks was battlefront and missing textures on certain maps), remember you don't "need" a driver on day 1 just to be able to play the game
- as for performance, look at benchmarks, generally it isn't an issue these days and imo the gameworks effects are crap anyway so I never use them even if they don't impact the performance much

Anyone else have this problem https://community.amd.com/thread/191147

I have it in quite a few games? Any thoughts @AMDMatt?

Got it in Dirt Rally (never noticed it in GTA V), posted about it eons ago, i just can't play it because of that, its a pixelated mess, ruins the game, so much for their Gaming Evolved, when its ****** on their own cards, but not Nvidias.

I'll be able to play it TWIMTBP soon though, when i get my Ti :p

Never seen it, but that would really annoy me. And they never solved it all that time? Shameful.

At least you can play Dirt Rally soon ;)

This is when I first noticed the issue in gta 5, posted a while ago and got no answer, some said they didn't have it though.

No idea if recent driver updates/game patches have fixed it as I haven't played it in ages.

I remember a few mentioning about "flickering/shimmering" in gta 5, mostly on the grass, it seems like I have it as well

No MSAA, I have FXAA along with sweetfx and all the settings are on near max except grass, shadows and the advanced settings.

I thought it was only crossfire users and MSAA users having this problem :/

Hahahaha. So true. That is one of my biggest pet peeves with them. They really like to milk us. And I do not like to be milked!

Some apparently don't mind :p
Yup I would rather quit the PC gaming scene entirely than get double penetrated by nvidia & intel :p With some people on here, nvidia could go in dry and they would still be begging for more! :D ;) :p

Hahahaha. I did get a 1070 myself, but I used plenty lube as I got it at a relatively great price and sold it making very little loss after enjoying it for 7-8 months :)

Sometimes one just does not have a choice, but at least use some lube goddamn it! :p

Using lube... ha! Nvidia and intel like the pleasure of going in dry! :p

But yeah the 1070 isn't/wasn't too bad of a bad price at around £350, "bargain" if you could get one for <£300. The ti on the other hand.... Genius marketing move by making people think that they are getting a bargain :D

Not sure about Dirt but GTA5 has always had this issue happens for in rain effects on grass etc
This is not a AMD or driver issue, can't stress this enough. Matter of a fact it was a friend of mine running a 680 that asked me did I get the same issue a while back I told him yes I knew then it was a game issue.

So just to back up my post here is a Nvidia user reporting same thing.
