The AMD Driver Thread

What DP cable do you use?
Club3D Vesa Certified, bought it a few months ago, made no improvements. Honestly man i tried EVERYTHING, i had 3 and a half years to try everything lol

I was so anti Nvidia until now, i was all AMD for about 10 years though i never acted like a fanboy or anything.

My last Nvidia card was a 7600GS

Paying £249 for a decent 1660S is worth it after the pain i have been through for years.

Had Clud3d DP1.2a VESA certified and in span of 2 years sent the 2730Z to Benq with flickering issues 4 times. Every time got a new monitor back, after few months same issue appeared. Changed cable to DP1.4 HBR3 and had no issues 2 years now, thanks also to Luck because since end 2017 have no warranty on the monitor.

I have the 'Club3D CAC-2068 DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.4/HBR3 Cable DP 1.4 8K 60Hz 2m/6.56ft'.

Never had flickering issues before but i kept this cable anyway. Forgot to mention, switching to a Freesync monitor didnt fix DayZ for me either.

DayZ had Engine issue that never got addressed btw, nothing AMD could have done about it.

I assume you are using 12.19.3 at this stage. Have you activated Enhanced Sync? Have you activated the Boost thing, which Borderlands 3 uses?
Borderlands 3 still have issues 3 months later with DX12 on all GPUs. Have you tried to run it on DX11 by changing PreferredGraphicsAPI=DX12 to PreferredGraphicsAPI=DX11 ?

Also have a look here.

yep it was the latest one 12.19.3 the only thing i had turned on was image sharpening, no enhanced sync or any thing, i was running it on dx11 or so the game says, not went into any ini files on it.

what is the boost function you mention? also ill have a look at the link :)

rage 2 done the same on splash screens as well on the previous 2020 drivers.

Well i never had that issue, it was random stuttering/juddering that made the game unplayable.

Only game had something similar with Vega 64 was ESO. So had to create a custom game profile and set P7 state as the minimum speed (just 1 click).
Otherwise the card was snoring at 800-900Mhz and game was unplayable.

I wont be surprised that could have been the issue with the game engine.
And since 2018 wrote several times about this helping people with similar issue.

You haven't tried to upgrade Nvidia GPU between major updates have you?
Also make sure you run DDU in windows safe mode, and make sure is set to disable Windows installing their driver.

Mate, the only nvidia cards I can recall owning were the Voodoo 2 (technically 3dfx) and the Geforce2. I've been an ATI/AMD loyalist ever since. Hence why I feel properly let down right now.

So I followed the DDU instructions and reinstalled 19.3 and the Borderlands 3 benchmark deficit has reduced from 7 fps to 3.5 fps, so better but still a drop in frame rate nonetheless. When you consider that the 12.1 driver average was 63.5 fps, that's a 5% loss of performance which is neither insignificant nor acceptable. So back to 12.1 again for me I'm afraid

Watch the video posted above. One of the games using the new boost functionality is Borderlands 3, improving the fps on the move.

cheers i thought you meant a setting on bl3 :P

yeh im aware of the radeon boost thingy, my fps is decent in bl3 i only play 1080p, been getting the stutter people with 2080 rtx's can get though since the last game update.

its the corrupt splash screens and black screens that keep making me roll back my drivers in both rage 2 and bl3 plus battlechasers nightwar gave me a black screen on the 2020 drivers :(

Have you tried to go to Settings -> Display -> Expand Override, Set Swing 1 and Pre-Emphasis 2?

But that's not the point. I shouldn't have to mitigate a 5% drop in performance by enabling Boost which has a detrimental visual impact compared to playing natively. BL3 played quite happily at 63-65 fps on 12.1 using a mixture of Ultra and High settings without the need for image reducing technologies like Boost. Driver iterations are meant to bring better performance or at least no worse. These have been 2 rushed updates aimed at making the 5500 cards seem more appealing but at the expense of trashing everything else which used to work from what I can tell

Good question which not even Matt can answer. However resolves most of the causes for flickering and black screens. Given that was under power settings on Display before, assuming something to do with the power delivered to the ports.

hmm sounds like something i shouldnt mess with lol

early december drivers are fine for the moment :)

I upgraded my SSD to an NVMe and did a clean install. No issues yet with the new drivers.

Nothing like a clean install of windows. These days it barely takes long as I do not have a million things installed so doing a clean install and installing everything I use just takes a few hours while multitasking :)

And your can handle it. Even Windows allow multiple things to be installed together these days.

Hi guys.

Anyone with an rx590 able to share a few wattman settings to drop temps? I've built a pc for a friends son for an xmas pressie, just messing around with wattman here. Just took 50mv from all the power states seems stable enough, but haven't got days and days to really knuckle down on precision. I just need to keep the internals of the case as cool as possible as hes only able to afford air cooling.
