The AMD Driver Thread

Use DDU, safe mode option. Grab the latest ones which are now 20.1.4 (you didnt say which v you used).

I wasnt on pc at the time I couldnt remember I'll let you know how it goes and what driver version I'm coming from.

I see some saying version 19 is good can I use a driver that's older than the card ?

Having tested all of the latest 2020 drivers except the newest 20.1.4 I don't think it's that bad for Vega users. Some people are even saying the drivers are working fine for them with Vega. I'm thinking about installing an old version of win 10 LTSB(1607) and see how the drivers perform there.

It does seem like I am in a minority with my issue which makes me wonder if there's something else going on in my setup that's causing it. I'd be really interested to hear how you got on with the older Win10 version. I'm going to have another play with the drivers later in the week once the BL3 farming frenzy ends :)

Used DDU in safe mode

uninstalled the 20.1.3 drivers and installed the new one 20.1.4

It's just the same stuttering even when I open pages on chrome etc.

I did get rocksmith to work I noticed in the radeon panel avg. Fps was 480fps

Now going back many years to when homeworld 2 came out I had the same issue stuttering and it was super high fps so had to use vsync.

Amds new fancy vsync in the panel does nothing so disabled that and actived normal always on vsync.

This fixed rocksmith so far all good with that :)

That's one game sorted many to go

Next tried homeworld deserts of kharak now this game stutters with any vsync setting and only averages 44fps even though my 770 could average 60fps.

Also AMDs new texture sharing mode makes the game look horrible adding more jaggy edges. Also the game doesnt look like the AA even works at all it's set to x16 but is still horrible, the 770 gave me a smooth look and better over all smooth running game.

All I can say £279.99 for this 5600xt has left me disappointed I've never had so many issues and having to adjust so many things to get my games working it should be a case of plug in and go like all my previous GPUs.

I regret getting it wish I had just got another nivida card again guess I'm stuck with something that's not working as it should now ....

How long you had the card you get 14 days to return if you purchased it online

Anyone else having problems with the amd 20.1.4 control panel app:

It loads some times before I play any games but most of the time does not.
the error in the event viewer is:
The program RadeonSoftware.exe version 10.1.2.1788 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Tested 20.1.4 on the Borderlands 3 benchmark and still get the same issue as all previous 2020 drivers which is a 6-8% frame rate drop compared to 19.12.1 (results below for those interested). I tried Radeon Boost at 83.3% but it made no difference to the benchmark score, presumably due to lack of mouse input. It did appear to yield a slightly higher frame rate in game (~5 fps) but play seemed more juddery than without Boost so I have ditched that. I also experienced some odd behaviour in BL3 with this new driver including micro stuttering with Freesync enabled, very slow load time past the startup splash screen and crash report screens popping up when launched from the Radeon settings app instead of Epic. But after turning various settings off and on, doing an Epic verify, clearing the dx12 shader cache and rebooting a few times I seem to have got it playing nicely. And to work around my BL3 frame drop, I've lowered volumetric fog and screen space reflections from high to medium which has gained a staggering 30 fps. (Wish I'd done that a long time ago!) Fundamentally this is still a flawed driver but I'm going to take a leap of faith and keep it going to see what stability is like over the next few days. Wish me luck

Didn't see it posted so here it is, 20.1.3 WHQL driver released on the 29th, Newer than the 20.1.4 Optional driver.

Support For
  • Radeon RX 5600 XT
Fixed Issues
  • An intermittent black screen or loss of display may occur when performing parallel actions such as web browsing, gaming or watching video.
  • A limited number of games such as Nioh™, Dragon Quest Builders 2™, WWE™2K20, Dead or Alive 6™ and Atelier Ryza™ may crash or fail to launch.
  • Wolfenstein™ 2: The New Colossus is not detected in Radeon Software games manager.
  • Text overflow in some UI boxes or toast messages may be experienced in some language localizations.
  • Fan Tuning may change back to the default state when switching between available GPUs.
  • Copy text options are not available in the display specs table for Radeon Software.
  • An intermittent black screen or loss of display may occur when the system is left idle at desktop.
  • Factory Reset install may keep previously configured Radeon Software game profiles. This can cause mismatch between global graphics settings and per profile settings.
Known Issues
  • Grand Theft Auto™ 5 may experience a system hang or black screen at launch, when opening Radeon Overlay while in game, or after performing a task switch while in game.
  • Audio may intermittently be missing from Radeon ReLive recordings near the end of recorded clips.
  • Integer Scaling may cause some video content to show flicker when the display resolution is set to less than native resolution.
  • Multiple games may have very dark or very bright graphics in game when HDR is enabled in Windows®.
  • Radeon Anti-Lag enable and disable beep notifications may be played in error when individually pressing keys assigned to the hotkey.
  • The Radeon Software Overlay hotkey notification may sometimes be displayed during video playback in web browsers or launching some video player applications.
  • Integer Scaling option is not showing up or available on some Windows®7 system configurations.
  • Radeon Software may open with an inconsistent size or may not keep its previously set size when opened.
  • Some Vulkan® gaming applications may crash when performing a task switch with Radeon Image Sharpening enabled.
  • Some Radeon RX 5700 series graphics users may intermittently experience a black screen while gaming or on desktop. A potential temporary workaround is disabling hardware acceleration in applications running in the background such as web browsers or Discord.

Those settings are incredibly punishing (bad optimisation, I suppose) yet it's difficult to tell the visual difference once they're lowered, aside from the massive boost in framerate of course!

Yeah I can't tell the difference. Watched a video showing the diffs and they were negligible. I based my config on some vega 56 1440p recommended settings posted by some reddit punter. To be fair with those settings I was averaging 60-65 before the new 2020 drivers where as now I'm averaging 90 fps with fog and reflections set to medium. Issue now is that it is wasted processing on a 75hz monitor. Anyone know if frame rate target control supports DX12 yet? I could research but I'm lazy and you guys are bound to ken :D
