The AMD Driver Thread

Yeah I can't tell the difference. Watched a video showing the diffs and they were negligible. I based my config on some vega 56 1440p recommended settings posted by some reddit punter. To be fair with those settings I was averaging 60-65 before the new 2020 drivers where as now I'm averaging 90 fps with fog and reflections set to medium. Issue now is that it is wasted processing on a 75hz monitor. Anyone know if frame rate target control supports DX12 yet? I could research but I'm lazy and you guys are bound to ken :D

Sorry, I don't barbie that...
:p

EDIT: I say turn it on and see what happens.

Sorry, Scots lingo coming out there. Think TFRC has been replaced by Chill in the 2020 driver if I recall from posts from December. So much has happened with AMD drivers in the past 2 months, it's hard to keep up. I know nothing about chill but will have a butchers later

No need to apologise, I was being a wee scunner. ;)

Yeah, they've hidden self explanatory settings in a mire of useless feature names and bull crud. Frame Rate Limit Control doesn't sound sexy, but Chill is just silly!

AMD need to stop fudging with the interface now, to say that the new one isn't intuitive is an understatement!! Say what you want about about nVidia's CP but at least it's nice and simple (like me!!). I own a 5700XT and Ti btw for reference.

I dont mind the interface so much but then I dont spend much time using it once my game profiles are set up. It's learnable like anything. I do agree that focus needs to be on the driver now which in fairness AMD seem to be doing with their 4 releases now in January. Still some way to go but progress none the less

No doubt they'll release an updated interface in December that looks like in came straight from the year 2049 but break a ****load of stuff again :D

OK, getting back to serious business. I enabled Radeon Chill for Borderlands 3 and set a min fps of 30 and max fps of 75 but when I run the benchmark, it runs at 30 fps and only goes up to 75 when i move the mouse around. Is that normal behaviour or another bug?

Edit: Yep this is the design. Guess would be difficult to track the camera movement from the game itself. Reset the min/max to be the same as the monitor freesync range and I have to say my first impressions of it are good. Proof of the pudding will be in the Wotan raids later :D

:D :D had a few colleagues and a MD from Dunfermline ken eh.
I learned my Scots slang from Rab C. Nesbitt, Chewing The Fat, and Still Game. :D

Glad ye both ken :D

Anyway enough banter, back to this Chill p1sh. Second impressions are less favourable now I've used it bit more. With the max set to 75, normal play on Borderlands would see fps peak at only around 65. Only moving my mouse frantically would get it to go to 75. So I have now set the max to 85 which trends around the 75 mark but will occasionally go above meaning enhanced sync will kick in. Not the end of the world I dont suppose but not the hard cap I was looking for. Any alternative solutions for this?

Have you tried setting both the min and max to 75?
