Well, it seems GPU Usage is much the same, very rarely going over 80%, gameplay is fine but since I got my 2 x 7970's, I have struggled to get constant 90's in GPU usage.
Settings mostly on high but using full (ultra) settings on this right now.

not clued up on AMD these days but could your cpu be holding back the cards at all?

System is at stock, no cpu/gpu o/c and I'm using AB on my Logitech display for usage readouts, it just pains me to see some of you guys with AB readouts with your graphs constantly in the high 90's and like I say I would be happy to have bought the extra 7970 to get the full potential of having crossfire. If my system can't get full usage out of these cards then all well and good, but if its a setting here or there then I could find it ;)

Make sure you're using afterburner beta 19 and make sure you tick enable unified gpu usage monitoring like this. Basically copy my settings. If you do that you will see more accurate and consistent gpu usage via afterburner. There's nothing wrong at all, so stop worrying and enjoy.

Could be I had mate who was using 2x 290's and wasn't getting good performance from his AMD CPU switched to Intel and all is fine.

Yeah this is what I was thinking, but wasn't mantle api also supposed to help utilize more gpu in this scenario?

My money is on the problem above. I've had my cpu down at 3ghz and i still get 99% usage on both gpu's under Mantle.

I had all your settings bar the unified GPU usage, did that and tested, still nowhere near high 90's, whatever, it runs ok, few spikes here and there.

Try overclocking that cpu then. If it the gpu usage goes higher then you know the problem.

That 8350 is a capable CPU and with Mantle running, it shouldn't bottleneck a pair of 7970's. Possibly because the 7 series isn't fully optimised yet?

This is what I was thinking, concentrating on the R series cards first, I am led to believe there are optimizations for the 7 series cards coming, not sure if it will be in the next driver (soon to be released) or future ones.
I will clock my CPU to around 4.5ghz and see if there are any usage gains, however its hard to get accurate readings as I don't really run any sort of data collector, to be honest sometimes I get usage in the high 80's/90's in the menus and less in game lol.

Just monitor the CPU in AB on your KB and if it is hitting 70% usage+, I would say you are seeing a bottleneck. I am purely guessing it is waiting on further 7 series optimisations and like you said, you are not fussed :)

So, is this the equivalent of the console command for frame pacing set to 0,1 or 2? If so, what is the command?

Type in to the console RenderDevice.FramePacingMethod X

Replace X with a number

0=Frame Pacing Disabled - Ideal for single gpu's
1=Normal Frame Pacing - Works well with minimal hit for any gpu combo
2=Frame Pacing on steroids - Ridiculous frame consistency at the expense of fps

You can also place that command in your User.Cfg file so you don't have to type it everytime you load the game up.

Some testing i did a while back on a 64 man Siege Of Shangai server

On my 7950 i use RenderDevice.FramePacingMethod 2..

0 and 1 give me stutter.

So try 2 or even 0 just to rule them out. I wudnt do Ultra on the 7xxx series just yet either as 2.7GB and above i start to stutter. I just set to all High with 4xMSAA.

Hopefully they fix the VRAM issue with the next drivers but im starting to become a little impatient in waiting now :(

Ok thanks for your advice guys, will try this, my CPU o/c @around 4.5gh didn't really give me anything solid to go on.
Edit: Do all my settings look ok in BF4, I'm using 1920 x 1080 @120hz?

So is that nice and smooth gameplay Matt?

Smoother than my sack and crack after my monthly veetin session. No word of a lie.

You might be getting close to, or exceeding the vram limit. Experiment turning AA down to X2, or off. Or even try the high preset with AA at x4.

You should be getting 99% solid. If the cpu overclocking made no difference, then there is some other issue at play here.

He should breeze all High setting with 4xMSAA. Im telling u now its the Ultra settings thats causing all the problems and tbh i dont think theres that much of a difference between High and Ultra when using 4xMSAA. 7xxx series cards just aint gona cut it on Ultra right now.. its down to Dice to fix the VRAM problem and to especially clear VRAM between map levels!

Btw i switched to RenderDevice.FramePacingMethod 0 from RenderDevice.FramePacingMethod 2 and am really not noticing a difference between the two :)

RenderDevice.FramePacingMethod 1 seems to give stutter.

You can set everything 'except' Texture Quality on Ultra and you should be fine.
