Mantle is not a problem on my tri fire 7950s unless i hit the Vram limit then its lag and stutter time, which then lowring the setting will not fix, only a game restart will...

I find the same thing with mine.

Just tried dx11 with the same settings as before and while averages seem to be around the same (as Frame Pacing Method 2), the minimums are definitely worse when things are getting blown up.
Mantle seems to deal with that stuff a fair bit better.
dx11 vram usage was 1.8GB vs the the 2.6GB of Mantle fwiw.

Also, maybe it was just me, but it seemed to a be a bit more washed out with dx11

With my 7950CF my VRAM usage was showing (again the in-game OSD) as being 3064 / 3072 MB, so I'm assuming it was hitting VRAM limits? Didn't see it ever show 3072 / 3072 MB though.

I also can't believe LtMatt thinks the 290s are silent at 20% fan speed!
I've got my 2 x HIS 7950 IceQ BOOST cards in the PC to my left and my 2 reference Sapphire 290s in the PC to the right. To suggest that the 290s aren't louder than the 7950s is silly. The 7950s are quiet up to about 45% fan speed, the 290s are only quiet when they're turned off! At 20% fan speed they're noisier than the HIS cards at 50%.

Hopefully that'll ease off the smoke lag if smoke is something to do with Effects quality.

Oh i set resolution to 104% :p

Looks like these settings work well. Solid 60FPS (Vsync on) on a full round of Firestorm with 2.3GB max VRAM & GPU max temp of 63c (that MX4 i bought from OCuK the other day is pretty good :D ) CPU usage around 30% @ 4.4GHz :)

And RenderDevice.FramePacingMethod 2 feels a bit smoother than 0 on my single 7950 so im sticking with that ;)

Will test on the notorious Shanghai map later  :p

The new drivers cant come quick enough.. grrr.

Afraid you'll have to add another person on Matt's side on this one mate. My PC lives under my desk, and at idle I cannot hear it over the fridge or boiler in the next rom (10 and 15 feet away respectively). I've just crouched under the desk and I can only hear the PC with my ear less than a foot from the case. Probably why I find up to 50% on both cards during gaming quiet, and 60% bearable except in quiet game moments.

In all seriousness, if the sound of the cards bothers you to that degree (and fair play if it does, we're all different) is there any way to reposition the PC under the desk, or behind something else to put a barrier between the source of the noise and yourself?

Have to agree, I thought the ref cooler wasn't bad at 50% or less.
On a side note, I thought it had a less nasty tone and was more bearable than the 7970 ref jobbie...

Then again, put either of them next to a 7970/280x iceq x2 cooler (dunno about the rear blower on the 7950 version) and they're both horrific :)

Lol what? I can't even hear the reference fan at 30% fan speed, let alone 20%. You must have the hearing of a an owl GM. :D

They are, trust me. GM is just incredibly anal and not in a good way. :p

Its plain sailing for 290 users with 4gb of vram.

Massive guffaw - good job the wife was out!

4gb vram should be ample ;)

Maybe I've just got 2 faulty cards/coolers. Doesn't seem that far fetched with the 290s that there may be issues.

I wonder if that fact that they're in a Silverstone TJ11 case and thus rotated 90º and exhausting upwards makes the noise any more noticeable?

I've had a watercooled GTX 480, reference GTX 570 SLI, Gigabyte GTX 670 WindForceX3 SLI, EVGA GTX 670 FTW SLI and His 7950 IceQ BOOST Crossfire and the 290s are louder than all of them (GTX 570 SLI probably next loudest).

The only other fans i nthe case are the Corsair AX1200 PSU fan, 2 x Silverstone 180mm Penetrator fans on low, 2 x 140mm Thermalright TY-something fans on my Silver Arrow that will be around 600rpm idle (I'm guessing) and the 290s. So I have to conclude it's the 290s making all the noise (Plus the rest was in there with the 670s and 7950s).

Anyone playing CoD Ghosts on an AMD card? It runs like poo for me.

I never got it to work with my 7970's, always had to disable one card, after endless comms with them I decided the Dvd's were best used as mini frizbees!
A pile of poo in short, not sure if they ever got multi gpu fully optimized for that game. A single card was working ok though.

I get big frame drops on a lot of maps, no matter what settings I use.

Also I get artifacts and I just blue screened whilst playing it :(

The words 'memory leak' are the best way of describing the way ghosts uses gfx memory, it also used massive amounts of system memory causing lots of issues, a lot of guys I played with gave up after a month or so, I gave it a bit longer but it really is a poor show, I will say it's the end of the Cod road for me, support is a complete joke. If you look at the Gfx on BF4 compared to ghosts it's very apparent also, ghosts is like bloody soldier of fortune, MW3 was better!

Oh that really sucks :( Glad I only paid £15 for it.

My friends are using Nvidia cards and have no issues, though :o

That's about the size of it, hit and miss, luck of the draw I guess, only thing I can suggest is play around with your settings until you can at least get a decent fps/smoothness. Even your 290 may need to be turned down to run smoothly.
