**THE AMD DRIVERS THREAD**

Oh that really sucks :( Glad I only paid £15 for it.

My friends are using Nvidia cards and have no issues, though :o

That's about the size of it, hit and miss, luck of the draw I guess, only thing I can suggest is play around with your settings until you can at least get a decent fps/smoothness. Even your 290 may need to be turned down to run smoothly.

Unfortunately thats the way it is with Nvidia/GameWorks title when using an AMD gpu. Hit and miss. As AMD cannot optimize at driver level for any game using the GameWorks black box libraries you're at the mercy of Nvidia/The game Dev for AMD driver optimizations. That in itself always raises many red flags. Some GW titles work fine, but some are unplayable.

Could drivers be causing artifacts and bluescreens? I'm using 14.4 so I imagine they may not be very stable.
I'm running my GPU stock and have played other games for hours with no issues.

Maybe I've just got 2 faulty cards/coolers. Doesn't seem that far fetched with the 290s that there may be issues.

I wonder if that fact that they're in a Silverstone TJ11 case and thus rotated 90º and exhausting upwards makes the noise any more noticeable?

I've had a watercooled GTX 480, reference GTX 570 SLI, Gigabyte GTX 670 WindForceX3 SLI, EVGA GTX 670 FTW SLI and His 7950 IceQ BOOST Crossfire and the 290s are louder than all of them (GTX 570 SLI probably next loudest).

The only other fans i nthe case are the Corsair AX1200 PSU fan, 2 x Silverstone 180mm Penetrator fans on low, 2 x 140mm Thermalright TY-something fans on my Silver Arrow that will be around 600rpm idle (I'm guessing) and the 290s. So I have to conclude it's the 290s making all the noise (Plus the rest was in there with the 670s and 7950s).

My setup shouldn't be that different from yours, noise wise. Raven 3 so rotated board ttoo, with the 2 x 180AP fans on the motherboard controller at 30% on idle, the stock exhaust 120mm fan straight to the PSU, and the Silver Arrow on stock (inaudible) fans and settings. The AP fan on the Silverstone 1200 PSU is inaudible too.

It's probably simply the case that your PC is close and you're sensitive to noise. Mine is under my desk, and I rode motorbikes for 15 of my 20 years without earplugs. Shame you're not closer or you could bring your ears round for a test drive. :)

The words 'memory leak' are the best way of describing the way ghosts uses gfx memory, it also used massive amounts of system memory causing lots of issues, a lot of guys I played with gave up after a month or so, I gave it a bit longer but it really is a poor show, I will say it's the end of the Cod road for me, support is a complete joke. If you look at the Gfx on BF4 compared to ghosts it's very apparent also, ghosts is like bloody soldier of fortune, MW3 was better!

To fix memory leak you need to set the textures to manual then normal...dont leave it at auto or the ram usage just climbs to it crawls to a halt.

Runs fine here mate just have to get the settings right...saying that its running bad tonight.

What have you got settings set to in game?
Here are my settings.

I drop down to ~30 fps on stonehaven.

Does anyone know when 14.4 will be officially available and what improvements it brings.

Yeah, also interested in this. Do we know if 14.4 will be the same as the next WHQL driver?
Will any WHQL driver include Mantle before it's out of BETA?

With regard to the 290CF noise, I'm using the PC now and at idle it is quieter than I remember it. The noise the cards make during start-up is about as loud as I remember idle being. Idle is not silent and not as quiet as the HIS 7950 IceQ cards, but it's not too bad. I can hear it at 20% though, so it's far from silent.

I can hear the cards when the pc starts up, but 20% is inaudible to me, hell even 30% is. You're an owl GM, only with less feathers.

Not sure about the drivers, all i know is they're coming this month.

I still keep getting that bug where my monitor sleeps and won't wake up, even turning the monitor off and then back on doesn't work always so have to restart! AMD needs to fix that first since I had it back in July 2012 with my HD 7850!

Does anyone know what the numbers in the pic after the GPUs refer to (0 6 12 18). Each time I do a fresh install of drivers they are different.

Those are the display output groupings assigned to each card which will be multi gpu driven, 6 per card is possible, either with a 6 port card or 2 MST hubs.

If you choose 2GPU (0 6) monitors 1-6 would be in the CF group, If you choose 2GPU (0 12) monitors 7-12 would be in the CF group, if you choose 2GPU (0 18) monitors 13-18 would be in the CF group.

The display priority in CCC which will also choose the display group that will be used for CF when all 4 GPUs are in CF, which is why there is only (0 6 12 18) for 4 GPU CF.

While 4 cards x 6 displays=24 (if the OS supports it) and not 18, 18 is the maximum amount of displays that can be active with 4 cards while the minimum amount of CF is active which is 2 cards which will disable the outputs (0= inactive display group) from the contributing card which leaves 6 active in the CF group and 12 active outside of the CF group.

phewwww, im going back to sleep,.

Thanks that makes sense, last couple of times I did a clean install I was having a bit of hardware trouble (3970X that was not up to the job) and the numbers must have got confused (I got something like 0 18 30 42).

You should only get those sort of numbers with 8 card in the system.

8 cards x 6 displays=48 but minimum CF 2 cards= 6 displays active in the CF group and 6 disabled, 36 displays active outside of the CF group=42 displays active.

You tried to plug in 4x AMD 295's. ;), but still would not give you that issue because its still only 6 displays per card.

We will find out what you are really up to sooner or later :D

I'm sure if he could he would :)

Get this with my 2x 7950s. Guess I can blame the drivers then.
