**THE AMD DRIVERS THREAD**

I'm not sure if it's drivers or what, but with my 7950s I'm now using 14.6 drivers and BF4 crashes within seconds of it loading when using Mantle. DirectX is fine.
Mantle was working fine when I was using the 14.3 betas, but as soon as I put the 14.4 WHQL drivers on I got this problem. I then rolled back/sideways to the 14.4 betas and still got the issue. I was hoping the 14.6s might fix it.

I've run a repair on the BF4 install multiple times now. And since DirectX works I'm not sure it's the game.

I use DDU to uninstall my drivers and for the 14.6s I uninstalled from control panel first and then ran DDU. 14.4s and 14.6s all installed without any obvious issues.

Just you GM :p

Hi Guys, complete noob here, so you'll have to forgive my ignorance. You guys are awesome, and I hope you will be able to help me with my problem.

I've spent the last three weeks reading through a ton of posts to see if I could find the answer I need, but with no luck.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C855D, which has an AMD E1-1200 APU, and a Radeon Pro HD 7310 graphics card. It's terrible, I had no idea how terrible it would be until I already had it. Unfortunately I'm now living in a different country so returning it is not an option.

Basically, apart from having an unplayable stutter with any game, I cannot watch any videos without the video/audio losing sync, and both suffering a terrible lag, and listening to audio has the same problem (both online and installed media players). And also Skype has a tendency to cut out and lose audio, or just stop completely.

I never really noticed it as much of a problem for the first few months (though I didn't really do any gaming), but around Christmas I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and since it was terrible. Upon trying to start again I encountered larger problems, which has since led me to believe that some drivers were not installed correctly before, partly owing to Windows 8.1.

I need to get everything working to it's maximum, but I will need some help, as there are so many links on the first page of this thread, and some drivers updated since then, so if someone could be so kind to give me a quick step by step as to what I should do and when I would really appreciate it. See the Skype, Audio and Video side of things I actually need for work.

Thanks,

Mike

Are you running the correct display drivers?

http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=3478326

Unistall the drivers as normal, before rebooting, run this http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/

It will ask you to boot into safe mode, click yes, once in safe mode select remove C Folders and then click on clean and restart.

Then install the Toshiba driver i linked.

Hope that works for you. :)

Thanks for the reply Humbug; as far as I can tell everything is up-to-date. The issue is more that the 7310 is not very powerful as far as I can tell, and apparently Toshiba have opted out of updates from AMD, so officially newer updates will not work. But it seems like without official AMD updates the graphics card doesn't run properly with Windows 8.1... That said, I also understand that using all the cool tools that you guys use it is possible to get a lot more out of it, so I'll try anything basically.

Thanks for the link and the info, I will give it a try today and let you know how I get on :)

I'm glad you said it, i didn't want to insult you, that APU, its a Dual core 1.4Ghz Bobcat CPU with what can only be described as a pathetic iGPU.
Its AMD's first attempt at a very low power chip, its actually not a bad chip at all in its own right, but its old, way out of date and 18 Watts.

Its an older Tablet chip that has no business being in a Laptop. its just under too much strain for what it was designed for.

Don't worry about insulting me :) I'm not completely clueless, but what I do know, computing-wise, I have just learned through trial and error, so I have terrible gaps in my knowledge. And I've never come across problems on this side of things so I'll listen to anything the wiser heads have to say :)

Sounds like you know more about it than I do though! Which is good. Do you know if it is possible to do anything to boost or supplement it to run better? Or even if you don't know how, do you think it would be possible? As I said I have seen it suggested that it can be done a few times, but never clearly seen anything anywhere that says it definitely can, and this is what you need to do.

And if you're unsure, I'm willing to experiment :) Otherwise, this computer is useless to me anyway.

Unfortunately there isn't anything that can be done in terms of boosting its performance, because its a Laptop, one can't overclock the hardware in them.

This http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/OS2013351A_TC50155300G.exe

Is the driver for your Laptop (Satellite C855D-S5320) released 12/05/14.

Run through the procedure i explained and then install that, if that does not fix the problem then i don't think it can be fixed.
Other than going back to Windows 8? do you need to run 8.1?

Lower benchmark scores for me with 14.6, and the power limit settings won't stick! I put 20% and upon ticking apply it goes straight back to 0%! Back to 14.4whql.

*edit* oh dear, a rookie error. Did not tick 'enable graphics overdrive'. The shame :o

Is anyone having problems with 14.6 and windows aero?

Keeps saying my 7950s don't support aero... :(

Even with the registry change it won't stay.

Thanks humbug; the specs for the C855D-S5320 are actually different to mine:

AMD Dual-Core E2-1800 Accelerated Processor with AMD Radeon™
HD 7340 Graphics

...are the links you provided comptible/usable though?

Mantle for me is much improved under 14.6, untill after around 10 minutes of play my FPS went from 140 average down to 20fps then black screened.

Just running 14.6 again now but under D3D, if it black screens again then i'll be back on 14.4

No it wont :), they are essentially the same.

Once again I cant install drivers

Uninstall 14.4, boot to safe mode, use DDU to remove everything. Restart

Run 14.6 installation and everything install bar the drivers. Finishes with an error.

I've had two bluescreens in two days on these latest drivers. Anyone else having similar issues?

Yes!! Undervolting? That's why i emailed you to try your bios. Increase the voltage a notch or two. It's fine if you leave voltage at +0. Only happens when i run -0.037v or -0.031v. For now im running -0.025v when i browse and -0.031v when i game. It's worse on a cold boot in the morning i find. Once the cards warm up a bit -0.031v seems to be ok, most of the time. Something about these drivers requires more idle voltage and i don't know why. I informed Sam of my findings, you should too Tom.
