Hi guys,

Got a Gigabyte R9 290 OC Windforce 4GB and having some issues.

It's BSODed twice when booting into videos only with a Video Memory issue and I get random glitches on the screen from time to time. Does this sound like a faulty card or funny drivers?

Bar the above, it works fine in gaming and other usage.

I'm on 14.10.1006-140417a-171099c (That's the AMD driver version I think?)

Thanks in advance.

Ash

Are you sure the rest of your system is stable? Have you tried running your cpu and memory and gpu at stock clocks, does it still occur with the above set? BSOD are possible because of a faulty gpu/bad driver, but more often than not it's something else in the system causing it.

Nothing has been overclocked by me. The card came overclocked.

Would excess heat cause it? Every fan in the system is set to a 'silent' profile (which I assumed would ramp up to stop any issues anyway).

It's just I went and turned every fan to normal/performance and it seems to not occur now.

I'll do a bit more messing around and see what I get.

Eyes and ears people, eyes and ears!!

Looks like a small driver update to fix some 4K issues. :)

Feature Highlights of the AMD Catalyst™ 14.7 RC Driver for Windows

Includes all improvements found in the AMD Catalyst™ 14.6 RC driver
Includes all improvements found in the AMD Catalyst™ 14.6 RC driver
AMD CrossFire™ and AMD Radeon™ Dual Graphics profile update for Plants vs. Zombies
Assassin's Creed IV - improved CrossFire scaling (3840x2160 High Settings) up to 93%
Collaboration with AOC has identified non-standard display timings as the root cause of 60Hz SST flickering exhibited by the AOC U2868PQU panel on certain AMD Radeon™ graphics cards. A software workaround has been implemented in AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC driver to resolve the display timing issues with this display.
Users are further encouraged to obtain newer display firmware from AOC that will resolve flickering at its origin.
Users are additionally advised to utilize DisplayPort-certified cables to ensure the integrity of the DisplayPort data connection.

Nothing in the patch notes of interest to me, won't bother with these, see what comes next.
Nice that they've improved the 4K issue even if it's not the ideal fix.

Why the change to calling drivers 'release candidates' rather than 'betas'?

Still waiting to get high GPU usage in BF4 with Mantle, if Crysis 3 can do it with DX why can't BF4?

You locking your frame rate? 60hz? Maybe bf4 on xfire don't need 100% usage to keep 60fps? Could be reason you not getting it.
Crysis 3 is more demanding game so it would also make sense for this to push your GPUs more.

Bottleneck? A mate of mine has a 8350 and cf 7970s, the cpu was bottlenecking his cards even at 4.8.

Try overclocking it evo.

I was thinking about that, but then he says about using mantle so I not sure how much mantle would effect the bottleneck.
I know 100% if he was using directx and crossfire he would bottleneck, but there again am surprised he getting full load from crysis 3.

On my old I5 2500k with xfire 7950s games like bf3, crysis 2/3 where very bad for bottlenecking.

Oh yeah sorry didn't notice he's using mantle, regardless, I'd still overclock it as much as possible.

It can only help, much sure your cooling is able to cope with the heat though evo.

I get better fps going from 3.9 turbo to 4.6 on my daily oc and that's using mantle, give it a try evo.

Got mine at 1200Mhz at +100mv and memory at 1550Mhz ( Still testing that as it could go a lot higher )

It's actually benching the same as my old 1.3Ghz GTX 780 that was on a custom BIOS.
