**THE AMD DRIVERS THREAD**

For those of you having problems with BSODs playing YouTube videos, does your system also hang when clicking "Scan for Hardware Changes" in Windows Device Manager?

If so I had the same problem on my HD7850 and resolved it by moving my system drive (Crucial M4 SSD) from an ASMedia SATA port to an Intel one on my P8Z77-V motherboard.

Hmm strange!

Not sure if this would make any difference or not but I used display driver uninstaller before.

Also, the drivers I am using are 14.4.

Tried the expand atikmdag.sy_ as listed above and it doesn't seem to work - when rebooting Windows reports no driver for the AMD card.

Stumped. And hung over. Not a good combination.

same here.

So I tried it a slightly different way, i used a CD mount code path.

it wouldn't expand into the desktop so i moved it to the users folder and tried to mount it from there to expand into the Desktop.

It wouldn't have it.

is it locked????? hhmmm....

@humbug are u getting issues also? like crashing to black screen / driver crashs?

No, i just though i would try to see if i could expand that dll for Meetgrinder.

Edit; hang on. maybe it could not expand for me "into its self" was because it already was, hence i don't have a problem?

@ Meetgrinder

Put the file on the Desktop as before and use this command
1, cd C:\Users\user name\Desktop (hit return)

2, EXPAND.EXE atikmdag.sy_ atikmdag.sys (Copy and paste that, there is a space after "atikmdag.sy_" that you might not see if your typing)

PS: Run CMD as Admin

Thx Humbug but I managed to expand the atikmdag.sy_ thing fine, put it into the Windows/ System 32/drivers (whichever folder it says anyway) and rebooted, all as per instructions.

When windows reloaded it states that there is no driver for the AMD card in there.

At the moment I have pulled the 290 card and stuck my sons old 6870 back in to stop him nattering - will have to have another go at in when he's in bed.

Looking on the internet this is not a new problem but it is widespread. I have a feeling it may stem from using this old (Asus p5n-d) motherboard with the new (ish) gfx card. Going to see if I can update the mboard bios to the latest (asus bios update utility won't work in win7, so gonna have to do it in dos) and see if it wants to play.

Another possible issue/solution is here

By setting this value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers

To zero (0) the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" is disabled. Not ideal - I'm sure it's there as a safety feature but these things are expensive paperweights at the moment, so need to try something.

Not had a moment of bother with my Nvidia card. Always bought whatever card was right for the price regardless of brand but this is starting to **** me off now.

Oops, missed the registry key (that was listed on M$ site):

KeyPath : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
KeyValue : TdrLevel
ValueType : REG_DWORD
ValueData : TdrLevelOff (0) - Detection disabled
TdrLevelBugcheck (1) - Bug check on detected timeout, for example, no recovery.
TdrLevelRecoverVGA (2) - Recover to VGA (not implemented).
TdrLevelRecover (3) - Recover on timeout. This is the default value.

Seems like a bad idea, but at the moment, it's something to try.

AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC3 Driver Out, Improves Watch_Dogs Performance On Single GPU & Multi-GPU Configs

AMD has released a new set of drivers that come with improved performance on Watch_Dogs, an AMD Crossfire profile for Wildstar, and single GPU and multi-GPU performance enhancements on Lichdom.

In addition, this driver includes all the changes made to previous RC, meaning that AMD users can expect improved CrossFire scaling on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, improvements with AOC monitors, and a Crossfire profile for Plants vs Zombies.

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/amd-c...-performance-on-single-gpu-multi-gpu-configs/

here is the full changelog:

Feature Highlights of the AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC3 Driver for Windows

Includes all improvements found in the AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC driver
Display interface enhancements to improve 4k monitor performance and reduce flickering.
Improvements apply to the following products:
AMD Radeon R9 290 Series
AMD Radeon R9 270 Series
AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
Even with these improvements, cable quality and other system variables can affect 4k performance. AMD recommends using DisplayPort 1.2 HBR2 certified cables with a length of 2m (~6 ft) or less when driving 4K monitors.
Wildstar: AMD Crossfire profile support
Lichdom: Single GPU and Multi-GPU performance enhancements
Watch Dogs: Smoother gameplay on single GPU and Multi-GPU configurations

Feature Highlights of the AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC Driver for Windows

Includes all improvements found in the AMD Catalyst™ 14.6 RC driver
AMD CrossFire™ and AMD Radeon™ Dual Graphics profile update for Plants vs. Zombies
Assassin’s Creed IV – improved CrossFire scaling (3840×2160 High Settings) up to 93%
Collaboration with AOC has identified non-standard display timings as the root cause of 60Hz SST flickering exhibited by the AOC U2868PQU panel on certain AMD Radeon™ graphics cards. A software workaround has been implemented in AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC driver to resolve the display timing issues with this display.
Users are further encouraged to obtain newer display firmware from AOC that will resolve flickering at its origin.
Users are additionally advised to utilize DisplayPort-certified cables to ensure the integrity of the DisplayPort data connection.

Feature Highlights of the AMD Catalyst™ 14.6 RC Driver for Windows

Plants vs. Zombies (Direct3D performance improvements):

well i played Sniper Elite V3 for about 45min with voltage set to 0, power limit on +50. max game settings except SSAA is off, and i had no crashs, so it's looking like SSAA,

Metro: Last Light also crashed to a black screen when i had SSAA enabled

well after more testing it's not SSAA... it looks like heat issue. if i remove one card and get the temp to stay below 70c which is easy even on auto fan the temp stays at 66c while gaming and it hasn't crashed in Sniper Elite V3 which i been playing for over a hour and a half. so i slowed down the gpu fan to get the temp over 70c, got it to 74c and it crashed within 20 minutes. i will continue testing this card then test the other card tonight or tomorrow.

Any idea if AMD will be working on the DX11 portion of the drivers like Nvidia have? Making them more multi-threaded, getting rid of latencies etc. Mantle is great and I know DX12 is being shown even now, but there'll be a bunch more DX11 games for a long time yet...
