I've always run with ULPS enabled (currently 2 x 290's, previously 2 x 7970's) and never had an issue except some monitoring tools not showing stats for the second GPU because they were opened when it was asleep.

I know LtMatt swears by disabling ULPS as the first thing any crossfirer should do, and it has been known to cure all manner of weird and wonderful issues, but personally it's never caused me any hassle and I like the idea of the second GPU turning off when idle, so I leave it on.

Am the same, I go through periods were I have it off and then on. Atm I have it off, but when I install a new driver I'll have it on for bit.
Performance is definitely better with it off, but tbh that's just benchmarks showing it, in games I would never know.

Ulps disabled=faster-sometimes with more consistent frame times.

I was a bit like yourself shankly, I'd go through stages of ulps on/off with the 7950's, with TR BF4 and C3 I needed everything I could get, Hitman however showed a definite gameplay improvement.

But using 290X CrossFire@1080p it's ulps on as performance is pretty obscene, very much doubt I could tell the difference in game.

The zerocore feature is a bit pointless because the gfx card only turns of when it feels like it and not everytime the screen turns off. When it does turn off, it turns back on after a few mins. So I am hopeing the zerocore will be better in the next driver release

I always use ULPS, I like my 2nd card turned off, and I play a few games like world of warcraft windowed, and I don't particularly need two gpu's for warcraft lol, it runs smooth on one 7950, and I like the less heat and quietness, and when I play bf4 etc fullscreen then my second card fires up.

When I have benchmarked with ulps on and ulps disabled, with it disabled, I scored 10 more 3dmarks, and in heaven benchmark, I actually scored 0.1 fps less. so for me, the difference with it on or off is absolutely nothing, it is the same performance.

:)

When my 2nd turns off it will stay off till I run a game. If I don't run a game it will remain off.

after a lot of testing it seems it's the memory on the card. if i underclock just the memory on the card to 1150mhz it doesn't seem to crash to a black screen when the gpu core temp got over 70c. I've had a game running for about 30 minutes without crashing so far and the gpu core temp was at 81c. So maybe there's something wrong with the memory chips on the cards or the memory chips are having trouble handling 1350mhz at high temps (on these powercolor 290x pcs+ cards

anyway Bailey has offered to do a straight replacement on it for me meaning no testing. which i think thats very nice of him to do that...

i just hope not all powercolor 290x pcs+ cards have this issue

Some of 290 and 290x power colours are using Elpida Memory which is very poor for over clocking.

A question for you guys,, mantle vs dx11. Yeah mantle is faster, but what about visual quality, dx11 or mantle?

Edit: I only score 21628 in skydiver? How come mines a lot lower?

DX vs Mantle looks the same to me

Those benches were done at 1075/1407.

I automatically thought because Mantle runs faster, there cant be as much detail on the screen.

Ah that will be why you score higher then me in skydiver,, my card it at stock speeds of 980/1250

Mantle in an API, like DirectX or OpenGL, only much better, it doesn't use nearly as much resources as DirectX or OpenGL, mainly on the CPU side, so what you end up with is much more of the CPU's performance allocated to making the game run faster.

How do the NVidia driver releases compare to the AMD ones?
Do they bring them out more often?
With AMD it just seems to take ages and when one does come along theres hardly no changes lol.
Feels like an age since the last beta driver.

Amd used to release weekly. But since changed to monthly.
