Is there any news on a patch for the 14.9 drivers? I've had massive dramas last couple of days on a new build. At first I thought it was windows update and spent hours trawling through before a couple of refreshes and ultimately a full reset. Downloaded 14.9 and noticed the issue came back immediately so I've un-installed through control panel and all seems to be fine so far with 14.7 drivers.

My problem was that I would click restart and the system would sound like it was restarting, power would be going into the system but the monitor would go into a hibernation state and I would have to physically reset the system in order to reboot.

Running 4790k, MSi Gaming 9, 16gb Kington hyper x, MSi 4GB 290x in CF

Matt - OvEr_KiLL is right as Zerocore kicks in on single GPU systems when the PC goes into "Long idle", as in the screens turn off and nothing is using the GPU. Some of the reviews of the 7970 mention that it drops low enough for the fans to switch off so presume the 290 is the same:

If it's not going into ZeroCore after long idle and it used to, sounds like something's amiss. Can't check on my system as the primary GPU never sleeps - although the second GPU sleeps anytime I'm not in game and appears to be working fine with 14.9.

Thank you Stu, great info. I will see what the driver team has to say about it.

There will be a new driver coming soon Davisdavid. If you have any problems after installing the new driver, please let me know. :)

Guys,

I have an important update for you regarding random installation hangs, BSODs and CCC crashes some of you have experienced after installing this version of our driver. We are aware of these issues and will be posting an updated driver as soon as it becomes available. Please read this article for more information: “Intermittent Installation Issues With the AMD Catalyst™ 14.9 Driver”.

Thank you again for posting your feedback here, and more importantly for using our Issue Reporting Form.

Will do, no problems as yet. Have seen various solutions though being banded about though.

The main one being to uninstall the driver and CCC the re-install using custom settings and excluding CCC from the install. Then reboot and install CCC on its own before a final reboot and this negates the black screens on start-up. Not tried it personally as I've only just got to a stage I can restart the system lol

Heads up Matt, The monitor sleep bug that was in the windows driver is now affecting the Linux driver as of 14.9. Only issue I have found with the .9 release across both platforms.

You could if you wish give the linux driver dev/s a nudge to get the perf in line with the windows driver :D

Thanks Matt,

I'll try to remember to keep an eye out in this thread!

Hi Footyslayer,

As promised I'm back with an update.

The driver team have tested the driver upgrade (CAT 14.4 to 14.9, or CAT 14.7 to 14.9) on about 15 different system configurations yesterday, and didn't run into any BSOD issue during driver upgrade.

I'm afraid we're unable to replicate your issue. Are you 100% sure your cpu overclock is stable?

So should we install 14.9 or stick with 14.7 until the new driver?

A small fraction of users are having issues with installing the driver, but for the large majority it works fine. New driver to fix that issue is in the works.

Thanks pete, very helpful. I will let the guys know, but i have a feeling it will be included when it gets fixed in a future driver.

I would, had a little issue, so used DDU, installed one card then installed driver, once restarted fitted 2nd card and all good.

Just to let you know.

On my AMD rig (990FX CHVFZ with 7990) if I try and install drivers with *any* overclock on the rig it crashes and when it reboots the drivers are borked.

In order to get them on I have to go into bios, set everything to default, install the drivers then reload my overclock.

Sort it out !!

Thanks, I'll give it a go then.
Would you reinstall drivers if changing from 7950CF to 290CF?

I would but I'm over-cautious with driver stuff. You should be fine to just change the cards over, but for the sake of 5 minutes why take the chance? I always uninstall by re-running the old installer from C:\AMD, change cards, then run the new installer (or the same one if you were already on the latest). I only bother with DDU if I've got major issues with a system as I'm always scared of breaking something with it.

no lol, when the screen goes in sleep mode, the screen power light turns from green to orange and screen goes off the fans on the gpu should stop spinning,

only screen in sleep mode not the pc.

edit. will try combofix later, il let you know if it fixes it

Do you have audio running off of your gpu?

The driver team tested it out on the following setup and it worked fine, Cat 14.9 + Hawaii XT + Windows 7 x64.

Do you have a lot of background processes running?

I've narrowed mine down to CCC. I installed 14.9 and rebooted fine, installed CCC and the only issue I can see at present is that if I go to restart the system everything appears to be running fine but the monitor goes into hibernation and I need to physically reset the system.

Though it's not a massive issue it is making the installation of new software a bit of a drama as the monitor isn't being woken up.

The drivers appear to be working fine though my valley benchmarks seem to have dropped a bit as well.

(I used the DDU tool in safe mode to remove 14.7 before installing 14.9)

I'd roll back to 14.7 RC3 or your last stable driver for now davisdavid until we have a newer driver out. I don't anticipate you'll be waiting long.

Yeah I've done that buddy, gone back to 14.4 and I'm going to try one last thing of installing the 14.9 driver only and not selecting CCC in the 14.9 package.

If it reverts to the same issue i'll stick with 14.4 for now - it's just a little annoying having 2 x 290x and not being able to update to the latest version. (I know there's not a million miles worth of difference but we all like to be up to date :))

Installed 14.9 driver only (14.301.xxx or something) - same issue - reverted back to 14.4 for time being.

What date was 14.9 released?
