**THE AMD DRIVERS THREAD**

Guys (Sorry if its been asked before), AMD GPU owners, I've read a lot about the "bad" drivers from AMD but what experiences have you guys had compared to Nvidia?

Last year was fairly horrific for AMD Drivers on the 79xx series cards. Since the end of last year, things have improved significantly.

I almost sold my cards at the end of last summer but would not have gotten a good price for them.

The latest frame pacing drivers have transformed my opinion on AMD crossfire, it feels like a quality experience now.

The only dissapointment for me at the moment is the cards performance in the valley benchmark where the 780 cards seem to hold an unusually large advantage, in all my other benches and games, the 7970 packs a punch.

I'm just speculating, but you may have been on the limit of stability before and now the extra fps you've got puts your previous stability in jeopardy. Why not just stick the voltage up a notch or two and enjoy the newer drivers with more optimizations?

I was at a happy point in terms of FPS, voltage and heat. I could have eaked out more, but didn't want the extra heat.

The same settings on the new drivers gave me more performance for the same clocks, but needing more volts, so more heat, which is kinda pointless.

These new drivers are horrible for me, lower frame rate + higher frame latency spikes all over in bf3. With 13.6 its perfect but 13.8 is a mess for me so i dont know wtf is going on and before anyone says anything it was a clean install.

Have you disabled ULPS in afterburner? Failing to do that could cause the problem you mentioned looking at the known issues with beta 2.

Known Issues of The AMD Catalyst 13.8 Beta2 Driver for Windows:

CrossFire configurations (when used in combination with Overdrive) can result in the secondary GPU usage running at 99%
Enabling CrossFire can result in the PCI-e bus speed for the secondary GPU being reported as x1
Bioshock Infinite: New DLC can cause system hangs with Frame Pacing enabled – disable frame pacing for this title to resolve

Right i think ive finally got 13.8 working so im a happy lad. Just want to ask if someone can interpret this per overlay for me please. I'm not hitting my 120fps cap yet my gpu's arent maxed but my cpu line is well below my gpu line.

Cpu bottlenecked via lack of cores/threads Agnst. Battlefield 3 requires an i7 to max out gpu usage for multi gpu setups.

Although the line says you're ok, the fact you only have four cores means your gpu's will never stretch their legs properly in this particular title.

Battlefield 4 running on a FX8350+2x7970ghz edition cards at stock speed. Looking freaking awesome, smooth and with good fps. Maybe this game isn't going to be that more demanding that BF3. Can't wait for this now.

Make sure you watch in HD1080p.

EDIT

Only shame is its normal/softcore mode.

That has me pumped :D thanks

Evening gents (OP updated btw :))

Anyone know if its possible to use Nvidias 3dvision monitor/emmiter/glasses to get tridef working with AMD cards? I'm finding it quite a pain to google as it keeps throwing out the opposite of what I'm asking :D

Really loved 3d gaming in my brief stint back with a 670 and it seems barely any monitors natively support tridef (some now obsolete samsung monitors!).

I don't think it can be done pgi, but you could ask PCM2(monitor specialist):

Luckily I have a SA700, while 3Dvision is easier out the box(on the limited time I have seen it in action), Tridef has considerably better 3D effects at the expense of being finicky at times and sometimes requiring patience and tweaking for the utmost 3D experience, but it is well worth the effort imo.

Talk on the 3D scene that 3Dvision has seen it's day and Nvidia is reducing resources over time on it and concentrating on other avenues btw.:(

What happened to the 670 btw, I thought it was a stop gap until the lightning/9970?

my pref overlay is also the same with spec in sig

@matt the perf overlay looked identical with my i7 920 @4ghz with ht on

You reading the Overlay wrong, that's showing his GPU is the bottleneck, It go's from lowest to high.

Well i would have thought his gpu's would be maxing out without vsync unless the cpu was holding him back.

That said though i found this and that seems to say your gpu's are the bottleneck.

http://flotgaming.net/forums/showthread.php/12952-BF3-Performance-Overlays

But if that was the case why aren't the gpu's pegged at 99%? Btw Angst even setter noted that an i7 920 and a 3570k both bottlenecked his 670's in Battlefield 3.

My GPU's also show Bottleneck and never hit 99% uncapped Frame rate 200fps no vsync
