Well i would have thought his gpu's would be maxing out without vsync unless the cpu was holding him back.

That said though i found this and that seems to say your gpu's are the bottleneck.

But if that was the case why aren't the gpu's pegged at 99%? Btw Angst even setter noted that an i7 920 and a 3570k both bottlenecked his 670's in Battlefield 3.

Who knows then, its just seems like the game comes across as craply optimised then.

Cpu and Gpu's both at stock, 64 man bazaar server, only had about 40 players in it though. Ultra preset x4aa.

Pretty much all 8 threads seeing 50% usage or more.

I went back this time to the same server with my cpu at 4.8ghz and both my gpu's at 1125/1700. Unfortunately there was a lot more going on this time and the server had more players and we were pinned in base, so the fps doesn't change much. In the first one i captured it 1 second before a tank shell hits me and i die, you can see the explosion taking place.

In the second one i joined a full 64 man bazaar server in the us and with my gpu's overclocked and im getting some cpu bottlenecking, check out the gpu usage.

So with Vsync and triple-buffering on, The Witcher 2 is a jerky mess.
Take off Vsync, and it is smooth with a very rare and very minor tear from time to time.

What give?

So from all are finding bf3 is showing GPU bottleneck? Would be good if we could get a Nvidia 670/680 sli screenshot at this point and see what there reading is.

I always think bf3 is better made for Nvidia. BF4 will change that

Battlefield 3 is pretty much dead even, probably a slight advantage for AMD tbh. There are one or two maps on Battlefield 3 that favour Nvidia, the majority favour AMD. Check out anands results for a classic example of this. Nvidia cards always show up to be much faster than AMD's at anand, all because anand use that one map that favours the Nvidia cards. Most other places will show them roughly equal or one side slightly ahead. The equivalent Nvidia cards are all pretty good at 1080p though and may have the edge at this res but as things increase it changes around.

No idea mate I always thought it was my i5 2500k sold that and got i7 2600k just £60 still happy with the change.
But BF3 I seen not much of a change in GPU usage but game does play better.
Only way I get 99% is 4xSSAA

What about if you just use the ultra preset at 1080p with x4 aa? Turn off all your SSAA and Sweetfx malarky. Check gpu usage then.

Looks a bit better. Does the usage increase further with your cpu at say 4.6ghz? You could also put your gpu at 925/1250 like me. Run proper stock 7950 boost clocks.

They're ok, its just unfortunate their Battlefield 3 ones don't really represent the general level of performance you get.

EDIT

After some digging i found out why. They use a part of the single player campaign called Thunder Run, which ironically is a very un-demanding part of the game. Basically their bf3 benchmark results mean nothing in real world.

For that reason we’re using an on-rails section of the single player game, Thunder Run, to do our testing. This isn’t the most strenuous part of Battlefield 3 – multiplayer can get much worse – but it’s the most consistent part of the game.

So basically they admit they use a non demanding part of the game to bench. Nvidia's gpu boost loves non demanding benchmarks doesn't it.


TL : DR If you want accurate representation of battlefield 3 performance probably best to look elsewhere.

I don't like the look of sweetfx, the colours look weird imo.
