The AMD R9 290 (non x) Thread

Are there any good aftermarket air coolers that cool both the GPU and the VRMs like the original, without having to mess with gluing silly little heatsinks to things?

waterblocks.

I would buy a accelero hybrid due to watercooling benefit and you can easily make adjustment for vrm if enough air blows over them.
just a hassle to redo my rig if I go waterblock.

Yes, there are some amazing waterblocks out there, but I don't want to have to buy a pump, radiator, hoses, etc. I'm just wondering why there are no aircooled aftermarket coolers that sit on the RAM/GPU/VRMs. Like the stock coolers, but better.

Probably in large part due to trying to be compatible for multiple gpus and/or designs. If they made one that had good contact with everything and then a non ref board came out with a different layout or whatever, it may not fit.

Anyone having stability issues?

Fitted my Sapphire R9 290 today and had nothing but problems.

Its running stock settings, on the latest beta driver. PSU is a Corsair AX860 - System was pretty much rock solid before install. So to eliminate all software issues I have done a fresh install, however still getting the same problem, have had BSOD, crazy graphical patterns / lock ups, display driver stops responding ect ect - all while just browsing the net or installing updates ect. In fact I am surprised I have managed to make this post without an issue.

Any ideas?

Yes I had this, reverted back to the drivers on the disc and so far so good...

Dont you lose the warranty if you replace the stock cooler? I have read on MSI and on Sapphire that if you modify the card you will lose its warranty

Product Warranty will not be valid even if returned after purchased for the following cases:
-Products that are defaced or physically damaged and modified by customer.

You sure about this? I think you lose the warranty

Its an OCUK thing as far a sI know, I have linked in other threads where the same question was asked a post from Gibbo clearly stating if you buy MSI or Sapphire from OCUK and change the cooler it will not void your warranty.

As said, MSI and Sapphire allow this if you buy them from OcUK.

You can just leave the existing cooling plate on there if you want.
Using decent heatsinks would be better.

It's more OCUK allowing you more than anything ; Discretion.

If you went direct and explained you'd removed the cooler, they'd no doubt reject you.

I removed my coolers on my Sapphire 6870's, I didn't buy them from OCUK, both were launch day cards and broke (At completely different times, like a year between them) and I managed to get them both replaced successfully, but that was down to the discretion of the E-tailer.
