Man AMD changing the naming to 9070 rather than 9700 has caused a fair amount of confusion hasn't it?
Makes typos harder to figure out too, is 9700XT supposed to be 7900XT or 9070XT? Which numbers got transposed?

Why would you even entertain the 7900XT at £629 when you can get a 9070 (non xt) quite easily for £569 from here right now...?




In Raster the 9070 is pretty much a 7900Xt and the 9070 XT is pretty much a 7900xtx with less vram, but much better RT performance.

Its a shame its not, but it has still made me laugh considering how many people are trying to scalp the 9070 at sillly prices too.

The 9070 is definitely going back down to rrp soon, with no money to be made from scalping it.

Well if its 350-400 thats a good deal for a 7800xt (36% behind in performance for 36% less cost than a fake msrp 9070XT at 569.99)

No one in their right mind would sell it for less than £350.

Imo still a very servicable card and can run most games at high FPS and single player ones with all bells (not all whistles- path tracing being the main one) for >60fps.

you'll miss out on FSR4 if you go with a 7000 series gpu. To me, that's more important than ray tracing as gives the card more longevity. It's dlss that kept my 3070ti alive for all this long while using a 4k screen. If you're going for 7000 series, I'd limit myself to the 7800XT. I got one from a forum member for my son for £330. 7900xt is 27% faster so which puts equivalent £420..seeing as you can buy the 7800xt for £440 from shops,27% increase is £560...paying £630+ is too much

Got a 7800xt £330 from MM for my sons easter build..they going for more on auction site...no way you getting it for £250 for a 7800xt(that's a really low opinion on the 7800xt)...cex just offering me £295 for my 3070ti, and that's a 8gb vram card...seeing as a 7090xt can't seem to be had for less than £700 atm, that's a 213% increase over the 7800xt...makes the 7800xt cheap at mo

I get where your coming from. If everything was priced at or near MSRP like it use to be then you/we wouldn't be in the situation that a last gen card could be attractive as a new purchase. I did the same when I bought my last GPU, an RX 6950XT brand new, which I paid the same for as the cheapest low quality 4070 non super at the time and for me it was the right choice and I never regretted it. So I understand why your considering a cheaper XT. To be honest I find it a bit offensive that someone in the chain between AMD and the consumer thinks its a good idea that the new midrange GPUs should cost the same or more than the last gen flagships and not even provide a clear raw performance advantage.

You got to ask yourself, is upscaling going to be important to your kid? is RT? if not or if the expectations aren't that high then the 7900XT at the right price could work just fine. Otherwise I would take a look at the RX 9070 non XT if its not being scalped. At the MSRP it don't make any sense versus the 9070 XT at MSRP but since non of the 9070 XTs are at MSRP it suddenly becomes a viable choice in my book as long as it isn't price gouged.

How is the 7900xt a viable choice at £629 when OCUK have £569 9070's in stock right now?

The 9070 is almost the same in raster, uses less power, has better RT and upscaling and would be £60 cheaper.

The only thing the 7900xt has going for it is an extra 4gb vram.

I wouldnt suggest a 9070 at £569 as thats priced gouged on its own, but even at that price its the better buy over the 7900xt if one had to choose between the two.

As I said "at the right price". 629 clearly isn't the right price if 9070's are available for less.
