Why is it the people that get their hands on these seemingly haven't a clue what they're doing?

Has a grand to splash out on a card, hasn't a clue about drivers and has a barely adequate psu.

Agree its like watching a monkey trying to drive a sports car

Well even if you ordered a week ago, there's no stock here haha. You'd still be sitting here waiting.

I would just import it from USA or elsewhere, assuming elsewhere have stock or has it already sold out completely?

Although yeah by the time, it arrived, even if there is stock now, sites like pc per will probably have their reviews up :(

Prepare to be critiqued by a very harsh audience :p

Don't worry, I have very thick skin ;) :D :p

So for gaming Vega will trade blows with a GTX 1080, this is hardly a big surprise.

It should not be a problem either provided AMD get the pricing right for the gaming cards.

He got his in the UK apparently.

FROM the UK?! No wonder he disappeared, he stole it from AMD or a retailer and has been snatched as a response. :P

I wonder if he installed the card with the old drivers present, took the GpuZ screenshot and then installed the FE driver suite to run the bench?

Scratch that. The Firestrike bench driver details match the GpuZ details shown. I won't call him a numpty but something is definitely amiss.

We urgently need a second opinion!

Has no one else noticed he's NOT using the Frontier Edition driver?

FE Driver 17.20

Driver he's using is from January 17.1.1, a normal Crimson one

GPU-Z is just wrong. Same drive version as the latest FE drivers form AMD's website.

that is a big problem for amd, it over a year late to the market (since 1080 launch) , so a year late, with 120w higher power draw (300w vs 180w for the 1080) with more expensive hbm2 (so more expensive for amd to produce)

if it is just the same as a 1080 then amd might as well say good bye to the gpu industry, Volta will be out not long after and offer better performance for £300ish. can't see amd making a profit if they sold this for £250.

I am most interested to see if their is any specific performance increase using a Ryzen CPU with Vega.

There should not be any if the CPU is performing correctly.

CPUs can not add graphics performance but if they are poor due to hardware or software they can definitely take it away.:)

Well the driver version linked matches the GpuZ and Firestrike drivers. The plot thickens......

We have a follow up by him!
He finally downloaded the new drivers, but stated he was mix and maxing between Pro and Gaming to get firestrike results lol.

So NOW he's going to do tests with "Gaming mode". He's also manually setting Frequency steps for the GPU instead of leaving it to Auto.

Results from the 3DMark Fire strike, as of now is on level of 1080. I have dig on the drivers as they are not showing correctly and I've downloaded correct package from AMD but I've used half pro and game drivers now I will use just the gaming ones to see the difference.

I had to make sure that power limit in Wattman is set to 30% and manually set 1600 MHz for last 3 states to make sure that no changes in GPU clock. I think as well that temperatures limits have impact but I did set them to MAX. I will let you know later on.

keep in the mind as well that my PSU is 550W. Will be moving on to 4K TV later on but first just gaming version of the drivers.

Any suggestion on changes to be made in Wattaman or it looks good. I can try to set 1600 on each state to see what it will happen.
