Just smells like the radeon pro duo all over again.
Amd defence team at the time " but it's not a gaming card it's for professionals! "

If they had the performance they would have sneaked in a firestrike or a full detailed bench which shows the scaling of cf/the new architecture on one card. Like they did blender and the early ryzen press coverages.

If they want to increase share prices, and want to reassure their investors then they certainly need to go back to pr school.

If they wanted to demo Threadripper IO capabilities why not run with 4 of them . Like they did in blender (IIRC).
Something smells fishy. Soon we will see.

Ok, now I am worried.....

Waited this long and not doing much gaming atm so I can wait a bit longer but with the above, it really isn't looking good now..... Think my days of any "serious" PC gaming are over, hopefully the scorpio will be amazing or/and there is an upcoming epic bundle deal on the ps 4 pro.
Trouble is, consoles are just not the same gaming experience. I see them as an addition to PC gaming, like say a Nintendo Switch.

2 Vega's "comfortably beat" any single GPU. Well that's not a resounding endorsement, doesn't two Fury X's do that :p?

Yeah that comment of his is super confusing, he says:

- comfortably about 60 fps

Then proceeds to say:

- comfortably above any single gpu (which iirc, is about 80/90 fps at 4k)

Yeah won't be as good but tbh, I am more of a casual gamer these days anyway :o and if AMD can't compete at all, I don't fancy staying in a gaming sector that is dominated by 1 brand... Got better things to spend my money on!

Perhaps it's not about the performance, it's about the pricing? If it sells for very cheap AMD could be onto a winner. A bit like how everybody bought 6950s back in the day, it wasn't the fastest GPU on the market by a long stretch but it was the budget king.

AMD's current offerings aren't the same performance they've offered before. So vega would be a fail if it only matched a 1070.

Not just that but the 6950 unlocked to a 6970.

Yes and no really. I replaced my.4870 for a 6950 at the time as it offered good enough performance for the price, it unlocked and clocked too. like you say. In vega's situation amd have been stuck at hawaii performance for too many years. Yes the fury is hit or miss and in modern games ranging below a 1060 or around a 1070. But as I said many months ago, building an expensive hmb2 caRd to compete with a mid range gp104 would be a fail. So let's hope amd have redesigned the fury architecture with a minimum of 20-30% scheduling and geometry balancing and can maintain clocks at 1450mhz minimum. If priced right then it may be my next card.

I understand where you're coming from - but what if AMD offered 1070 performance for 1060 pricing? That's purely hypothetical of course.

I think AMD do have some self-awareness - they must know by now that Vega perhaps can't match the 1080+, so they can offer a hugely competitive price/performance ratio instead. That's the only way I can see them coming out of this successfully.

Yeah, I understand how you feel.

The one good thing would be, you can just buy a OLED TV now and game on that and not worry about a monitor which will only be left for browsing.

Yup that is also what I'm thinking about too, no need to worry about free/g sync or waiting around for an eternity to get a sensibly priced monitor with no issues, just get a console and oled HDR TV and be done with all these lock ins and trying to work out what will be best for the future etc.

Would still play any fps mp shooters on pc but I don't need a beefy pc for this as I always run low settings for these games.

Why would AMD be releasing detailed performance figures for a product which nobody can buy for two months?? Don't we have this same argument every year for like the last decade- the only time Nvidia or AMD ever release actual performance figures is when they have a proper launch and the cards are available within a few weeks.
