The Android rooting + flashing super guide

After running the commands in QtADB

Weird Benjo, what ROM are you running. Could you link me to it? :)

Did you redo your EXT partition in gparted? I recommend doing that.

Backup your card, delete the EXT partition and recreate it in gparted.

Also in QtADB, what does your phones root file structure look like? I.e when you're just viewing the "/" folder.

Very strange because there's a "sd-ext" blind mount point!

If you try and click into the sd-ext folder, does it list all the application .apk's?

Also in the /system/etc/init.d/ folder, what files are there?

The sd-ext folder is empty, and in the /init.d/ folder is;

Code:
01undervolt
04perflock_disable
05cpufreq_interactive
06cpufreq_powersave
07cfq
90screenstate_scaling
99complete

:)

Massive face palm on my behalf then :p

Do I just need to install it from the recover console and thats it?

Should be the only thing you need to do, flash the addon (I linked you to it by editing my post) and check the sd-ext folder. If that doesn't list the /app /app-private and /dalvik-cache folders then I would recommend backing up everything with Titanium Backup.

Then wipe data, dalvik cache and then restore the Titanium backup - then reboot. :)

Seems to have worked :) Got those folders listed in the sd-ext folder (as well as lost+found?) Thanks for the help mate, really appreciated.

Hmm, re-run the ls -l /data command again and see if the link is now there?

Internal storage will still go down ever so slightly as the application data is still stored on the phones memory but that's small in comparison.

I'm getting
Code:
sh-3.2# ls -1 /data
app
app-private
backup
dalvik-cache
data
dontpanic
drm
local
lost+found
misc
property
system
sh-3.2#

In QtADB, new apps i'm installing appear to be in /mnt/asec/

No, no!

Code:
ls -l /data
the letter l and not 1 :p

The fact they're being install to /mnt/asec means they're being installed on the SDCards FAT partition by FroYo.

If you go into the phones settings -> applications -> sdcard tab, do you see AIR there?

You can press move to phone and it will be moved to the EXT partition :)

Oh, in that case I see

Code:
app -> /sd-ext/app
app-private -> /sd-ext/app-private
dalvik-cache -> /sd-ext/dalvik-cache

And yep, Air is on the SD card.

I'm figuring this out now, thanks :D

As long as it's working then no, no issues!

The requirement for unlock was before when Orange handsets had issues once rooted if they were not unlocked beforehand.

+1 for Orange confirmation though, hopefully I can remove the Unocking part once we get more confirmations in :)
I had to unlock my Orange phone to fix some debranding issues i had, dunno if that info's of any help to you...?

Im tempted to root mine, just cant decide whether to or not...

Okay, i'm about to set up Apps2SD+, as the card is going to be reformatted, can i restore the contents of it by copy/pasting the files from my PC to the SD, or is it not as easy as that?

EDIT: worked it out now

Ok, i'm back again, have encountered another issue :rolleyes: when trying to partition the SD card with ROM manager it pops up with a message that says 'you must have clockworkmod recovery installed before continuing. Install the recovery through ROM manager first'

Eh??? Anyone else encountered this? Do I just press install?

EDIT: Just clicked install and it worked. YAY!

Well it was all going well, until I got into ClockworkMod and found that my centre button doesn't work. I've never used it and now only just discovered it doesn't work.

Great.
