The Android rooting + flashing super guide

It's not supposed to work in recovery, only on AmonRA recovery with ALT KEYS mod is where it works.

VOL UP/DOWN + POWER = Navigate + Select.

It doesn't work within the OS as well... When I press power on ClockworkMod, the screen just blanks off and pressing power brings the screen back!

Hmmm Clockwork Mod, sorry my bad yeah, It's Menu in AmonRA that hides the recovery UI (blank) and power in Clockwork.

What ROM?

There may be an OJNeverDie patch like there was on previous DeFrost ROMS for example.

Re-Flash the recovery again, then reflash a new ROM after a clean wipe.

It's been like it from the day I got it on HTC Stock 2.1, then 2.2 and 2.2 update 1. I think it's hardware related, not rom related. This phone was completely stock until I used unrevoked this morning. On ClockworkMod pressing Menu and Home also blanks the screen. Annoying.

Question:
Does rooting my phone (de-branded) require a new ROM?
Or is it literally just a change of the bootloader to add new features like backing up, and the changing of the permissions on the existing ROM to make the 'main user' a SuperUser?

The main part of root is to change the bootloader to allow the installation of a custom ROM/Recovery. UnEVOked sorts that process with a single click, the rest is down to the ROM which needs superuser permissions/deodexing etc for customisations and other tweaks (Apps2SD+ etc).

So...
Basically if i run unevoked, i can backup/restore an image of my existing un-rooted ROM, and then have an option to replace it with a different ROM?

That is what I did with a relative's SLCD Desire the other week yes, unrEVOked, backed up via Nandroid then flashed Modaco ROM.

He has since gone back to the original ROM though via Nandroid Restore for reasons unknown but he is still a noob but getting there :p

As mentioned many times, the camera doesn't work :p

So quite a major part of the phone doesn't work yet! You have to wait until HTC release it officially by Xmas.

Quick question, once I install DeFrost do I need to keep backing up and installing a new version every upgrade or can I just upgrade over the top of DeFrost. IE 5.8 - 6.0?

Can anyone answer me this:
Im still using the stock unrooted ROM for the moment.
I've been trying to work out what the relationship is between ROM and radio version compatibilities.

Am I correct in thinking that I can use the update.zip for the latest radio on my current phone and everything will continue working correctly, and allow me to faff with ROMs without having to worry about radio versions? And continue with my current ROM if needs be?
Or is there more too it than that?

Also, my phone is an orange one, using a debranded ROM, and has been unlocked....if any of that makes a difference. Lol.

Thanks in advance.:-)

'My phone boots up but the animated boot logo loops endlessly!'

Mine is doing this, and I've not even changed my ROM :( Last thing I did was create a backup. HALP!

EDIT: Using restore fixed it, don't know why, but I'm not questioning it. I'm all setup to dick around later then.

I just read about that... apparently its a bug with nandroid backup, it corrupts system files when it backs up.

Is the backup/restore built into the clockworkmod that unrevoked uses basically nandroid backup?
&
How would i go about updating the clockworkmod backup program as theres meant to be some big bugs in it...?

Ok I rooted and put a Modaco ROM on my phone a while back, now i want to try a new ROM

Whats the process?

Titanium Backup of apps and data
Download new ROM
Put it on the root of the card

Do i delete the old ROM first or not?
