The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

That's quite understandable, it's a very "japanese" film in feel, it's not like a western film in plot structure and so your expectations should not be the same. I have several live action Japanese films which are exactly the same, you keep expecting a "plot" but one never turns up ... sometimes it works for me, others it doesn't. My Japanese teacher really likes the film :)

It's about 50-50 with the people I know who have seen it between people who like the art and the story or people who just like the art .... and it does look damn good on BD :)

I've not got round to watching it yet *gets back into dark cupboard under stairs*

Anywhoooo.
Rightstuf are doing a Christmas orientated 12 days sale ATM. Basic deal is they're adding loads of items on sale, one batch per day for the next 9 days (we're on day 3) and all sales prices SHOULD hold until the 12th December.

Some of things they've got on are actually pretty cheap:
Fullmetal Panic! Bluray for £18 after postage for one example.

Also Spice and Wolf 5 book bundle for about £20, which would be a good buy for someone who's not read them yet.

Thought I'd mention as a few of us might have a bit of a list of things we're tempted to order once they've listed everything, I know I'm interested in FMP as it's cheaper than UP1 and Axel even if I get customed, however I'd like to see if Fumoffu or any of the other shows I was considering turn up.

I'm avoiding the TRSI 12 days of Christmas sale ... whilst I know that there will be several things there I would like I've got a quite heavy period of pre-orders at the moment after a lean couple of months so can't really get anything else on top of whatever is already ordered :(

Might be worth a look though incase anything comes up that is worth a preorder cancellation? I wont be ordering til around the 10th though, purely because A)I'll have the full list of shows I can order on the sale B)I'll have a clue how much money I have left :o

I'm going to try and avoid the dreaded TRSI sale of doom this year.
I'm already over budget for November, and know that TRSI will take me over for December if I'm not very very careful :)

It helps that I've barely had a chance to watch anything for the last few weeks, and I've got a backlog of non anime building up which I hate (I've got a TV box set from January that I've yet to watch...).

Well, I wasn't going to spend either...and then my willpower buckled when someone pointed out how easy, and comparatively cheap (especially if you escape customs) Amazon US could be.
Ordered:
Fullmetal Panic Bluray inc expedited post £18
Fullmetal Panic! Fumoffu?! BDs for £15.50 inc expedited post

I could have cheapened out and saved another £5 or so by going standard post, but I figured this way I might actually have a chance to WATCH them this xmas with my brother whilst he's back from Uni hehe

Ordered as two seperate orders rather than one, to try and avoid customs.
Providing customs only go off item value not the postage costs, both of these should pass.

This takes out some of my initial worry on the TSRI sale...so...perhaps...possibly (maybe not :() I'll escape spending any more...

Em Alex, why were you trying to avoid Customs on an Amazon US order when using something other than the cheapest standard shipping? Of the three shipping options, when I've used anything other than standard shipping they pre-charged some money towards customs as part of the shipping charge (edit they call it import fees deposit) ... The only time they didn't was on the slowest standard shipping level hence I used that for Soul Eater last time. You shouldn't get charged anything because you have already paid?

In fact I remember getting some small refunds a few years back where they found they had been over charging on this.

My pre-christmas pre-orders have mostly already shipped hence the budget is just about spent for before the new year, (having the JP releases of 5cm/s and Children Who Hear Voices... didn't help)

@Werewolf, the Christmas sale isn't the dreaded TRSi sale of doom .... That would be the spring clearance sale (I remember spending ~£600 on that a few years a go)

Well ... two things to note ...

- The third Utena set is larger, (at 6 thinpak disks plus a good, thick booklet, and rather heavy).
- The above in nothing compared with the size and weight of the High School of the Dead vol 1-4 colour omnibus ... which is a huge hardback and weighs a ton.

For $380 (with TRSI pre-order discount) or $499 in general ... ouch ... just over £484 (+ shipping etc) for a ~26 episode series.

If it was a series I really loved then I could possibly justify it but I just can't for the this title ... it just doesn't mean that much to me and I have quite a few other things which I would rather get. If I had a larger pool of disposable income then possibly but I can't get this at the current price ...

It's actually a bit cheaper to get it straight from Amazon.jp and it's the same boxset (minus the translation booklet)

I've ordered mine but that's because I am a huge Type-Moon fan. They can go with my Kara box :D

I expected you would get one Strife :) ...

... in fact it's going to be even more expensive via TRSI as the extra $10 on the non-US pre-order cost over the US pre-order cost is because it will be being sent full insured via express delivery (3-5 days) ... so that means that Customs would be a virtual certainty ...

I'm going to guess that UP will list it at around the £320 mark per set, (they normally list Aniplex releases but with no discount).

I'll be interested to see what they put it up at ... if only from a purely academic standpoint. What would be interesting would be if a cheaper Kara Box was released sometime like the end of next year ... that would mean I could hold out hope of owning this at some point in the future ...

A quick heads up for anyone that pre-ordered arriety, there is now a deluxe double play version available for pre-order for the same price:)

I changed my order for the blu-ray to the double play/deluxe set last night :)

Ooo interesting ... I'll have to get the order for my copy changed :)

Made the mistake of looking at the merchandise sale on CDJapan earlier ... so many nice things ... :(

edit:
Well asked my boss if I could get a £500/month pay rise, purely for expensive anime purchases, but for some unknown reason he wouldn't agree :p
