The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

I have *so far* managed to resist buying anything on the RS sales (because I bought FMP from Amazon :p). That said I think my brother wants me to halves on todays Soul Eater offer. So...errr...not sure if it'll last, as I was thinking of getting it to check out anyway (and ~35 inc for both sets on BD isnt bad at all)

And don't tell me R.O.D is good, I skipped it on MVMs deal of the week a few weeks back because it wasn't one I'd heard of :( lol

(This week it's Tower of Druaga which I've heard isn't bad, but just not that good)

It's a very good price for Soul Eater, I picked up both sets, heavily reduced, from Amazon US a couple of months ago (for ~£44 inc shipping).

I found R.O.D. to be a very good series ... I prefer the series over the OVA though. The series is interesting and can be quite dark at times, (the various manga series for it are quite good too).

I have Tower of Druaga ... it's decidedly meh.

Pre-ordered the 5th Spice&Wolf novel and just started watching freezing

I finished watching Freezing last night. It was actually a lot better than I was expecting. I watched the first episode when it was first airing but was put off by the goriness of some of the scenes ... but decided to give it another chance earlier this week. Overall I found it a reasonably good series with some likeable characters and a plot which, while ok, really had a bit to much not being explained about the whole set up and the end, whilst at then end of an arc, very much leaves things open for another series.

Hmmm, you just reminded me UP1 had hoped to have thier copies in and shipping by now, will have to see if there's been a delay.

They did, mine shipped this afternoon (with a couple of other manga) ... unfortunately it's shipping to work and I'm not back in until next Monday. (Well not that unfortunately as I'm very behind on reading them so it's not as if I'd read it immediately anyway).

Yeah, it's definately a better price than even the PlanetAxel prices I'd originally been looking into. My brother already has the series on DVD, but it is a show he liked, so he's tempted to double dip and go halves on the series with me.
£17.50 effectively is tempting enough I might just break, even if it IS Shounen. Both of us now have a way to watch Region A BDs, so it's not going to cause us major issues.

Mean :p
Shoulda grabbed it when it was on offer I guess!

Just noticed my order has gone into processing, so hopefully it'll ship tomorrow :)

I've actually been quite busy doing other bits and pieces this last few weeks, and beyond the Kara no Kyoukai not really got through that much, and no where near what I expected I might have done (I figured I'd be almost done with this Supernatural season by now originally lol).

I have managed to make it through a few episodes of Chevalier today however (onto volume 2/6). The beginning episode or two of the show didn't quite grab me, but it's starting to pick up and get going now so I'll give it an honest shot, as I might enjoy it.
Not quite as supernatural-heavy as some of the shows on my list, but it's definately a feature, although it focuses more on the actual period politics and D'Eon's hunt rather than this so far.

Just finished watching now, i liked it a lot but i felt 12 episodes was a bit short for this particular series.

My order for s&w was via amazon.

Forgot to mention that I managed to see Into the Forest of Fireflies' Light at the cinema a few weeks ago. It was pretty good - nicely drawn and moving story, I could sort of guess the ending after about 10' in but it managed to suck me in and make me forget about it so it was still pretty sad when it happened. Quite short though.

Afternoon all :)

I watched Eden of the East: Paradise Lost last night which I thought was very good, although I was a bit disappointed in some says, but the ending was pretty good.
Although Saki and Takizawa didn't get to stay together, Takizawa did retain his memories at the end, and it's open enough that after the end credits they may meet up again. The meeting between him and "the outsider" was good, with a quite unexpected bit.

I'm about to crumble and place an order with TRSI for their 12 days sale....

What did you think of Eden of the East?

That is the one that is suppose to reference that it is the GITS past...

Been watching a couple of things the last day or so ...

Star Driver ... watched the first half of this on Bandai's BD release. It's not a bad people in giant "mecha" sort of thing and does look good, particularly in the fighting sequences, on BD. The downsides, being this type of show, is that the plot outside the fighting is rather convoluted and things to get a bit repetitive at times (e.g. the entry of the main characters machine). It's also very difficult to take seriously something which has something referred to as "The Galactic Pretty Boy" in it ... :)

Rozen Maiden Overture ... the OVA on the series' which has just been put out by Sentai. It's ok but won't make any sense unless you have seen the series.

I'm not sure whether their is any relationship with GitS, I don't remember it seeming that way when I watched it.

Overall I quite liked Eden of the East. It was an interesting concept and had some nice characters. Having a relatively short series followed by two films worked quite well but over all I do think that a two cour series may have worked better. There just seemed to be to much left unanswered.

Eh, where'd you hear/read that from :S.

I know they had the same director work on both.

In the second TV episode, there was a passing reference to a plane crash in which a 6-year old boy and girl were the sole survivors. Now, bear in mind that Eden of the East is the creation of Kenji Kamiyama, who also directed Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex… and that in the second series of SAC, we learned that Motoko Kusanagi survived a plane crash as a child, together with a little boy. Is this just a tease, or an indication that the changing Japan of Eden is actually the same world as Stand Alone Complex, only a few decades earlier? If you’re not sold, then consider Eden’s dulcet-toned A.I. “Juiz,” voiced by the same actress as the ever-evolving Tachikoma robots in SAC…

;) :D

I'd have thought that if Eden of the East was in the same universe as Stand Alone Complex it would have been mentioned pretty obviously. GITS is one of Production I.G's biggest IP's afterall.

I'd imagine it's just an Easter Egg in the same way that many of the Pixar films have references to other Pixar films. Or in Toy Story 3's case, Totoro is in it from Studio Ghibli.

In fact, Kyoto Animation are big culprits for putting in references to their other shows.

It did actually ship this afternoon (or yesterday afternoon as I write this) :)

Well someone there was a complete tool since I had a order shipped out yesterday which should've included the forth volume of the K-on manga only to have been sent the DVD (they've actually gone out of their way this time and have already sent out the correct item (they actually knew that there was a problem but they didn't know who got the wrong item) since the last time this happened I had to send the item that was sent in error back before the actual item I'd ordered was sent out).
