The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Well, me and the wife are off out to Malaysia in a few months for a couple of weeks so she can see family. My wife was considering jetting off to another location whilst we were out there and Japan has come up as a possibility, although it'd only be for 2-4 days if we did. (Last time we hit Cambodia and Singapore City :))

Anyone who's been there, could you suggest anything worthwhile to do if you could get a few day trip, ideally english-speaking friendly, I'm noting most of the big airports seem to cost roughly the same to fly into out of Kuala Lumpur.

Doesn't have to be Tokyo, although obviously flight costs will potentially add to the decision.

Any recommendations of things to do/places to go/tours/ways to make things dead easy without spending a bomb?
My wife is ethnically part Japanese but neither of us would be able to get by on native reading/speaking :)

Obviously we may not go this time round, but from everything I know, if we DO this is something we'd need to plan rather than just get there and suddenly hit the language barrier :)

Well you could probably lose at least a day or more wandering around the stores in Akihabra and Nakano Broadway and there's also a Mandarake in Shibuya that's quite reasonable.

Touristy things Sky Tree (large shopping centre there too, remember as a foreign passport holder you can fasttrack getting a ticket and going up rather than having to wait the full queue), Tokyo Tower, Meiji Shrine (nice if it's hot as there are lots of trees), go for a wander in Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya. If it's cherry blossom season then Ueno park (watch the Japanese watching the blossoms) and the large park in Shinjuku.

Personally I prefer to fly into Haneda than Narita as its quicker to get into the City. You can go in by rail but personally I tend to use the airport limobus service as the Tokyo hotels I tend to use are on their routes and I don't want to lug my luggage through the stations at rush hour. I also tend to use a Suica card (bought from a machine at Tokyo Station (Maranochi North exit)) to get around as it means that you can just bung on some money via the machines and not end up with loads of change.

Thanks for the ideas Andi. Sorry it's taken me a couple of days to respond.
@kayo
I'll be honest massively multiplayer titles and adventure titles seems some the most ideal scenarios for VR. They were already about taking someone to a new world and VR will allow further opportunities in this regards.

I managed to sit down and watch Eva 3.33 earlier and was a little confused (mind you that's my default state at the moment:p).

I think I'm going to have to watch the first two films again in the near future then watch the third again straight after.
I guess that's what happens when you watch the third part of a series about 3 years after part 2.

Finished One Punch Man.

I enjoyed it, binged 12 eps in a day pretty much but I wonder how much they could keep going, although i love how they try to think of new baddies every ep.

I watched this whilst on holiday, loved the humour in it :D

short and sweet and I think they can get away with another series quite easily. How long running was the original manga?

Started Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works about a week ago. Slow start but half through now and really liking it. The visuals are absolutely amazing too.

I keep meaning to watch Unlimited Blade Works as I really enjoyed the original.
I'm also going to have to watch One Punch Man as people keep telling me it's good.

Is anyone backing the Riding Bean kickstarter (about 36 hours left)?
I've joined for a basic set, but depending on how things work out in the next few weeks will (all going well) upgrade to the version with the car model.
Which means I'm currently 3 for 3 on Animiego kickstarters, and will probably be 3 for 3 on the premium with extras with luck.

I will certainly be watching Fate/Zero straight after Unlimited Bladeworks.

IC3 mentioned about a fantasy anime a few pages back, not watched it yet but Berserk - Golden Age looks great. There is also a 24 episode series going back from the 90's. Seen a lot of talk about the original series and Golden age so can only assume it's popularity means it's pretty good.

Finally finished Death Note, after all this time! What an incredible Anime, so deep, so thought worthy, with brilliant characters. I've never seen an Anime like it before, just a shame what happened to Kira at the end. I really liked the guy :mad:
