The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

HLP is funny and full of fanservice I am enjoying it a lot and it helps it has the voice i always enjoy as the main lead. I am about to watch ep 11 lol so if you say its a good one then cant wait to get stuck in. Probs my fav so far was the panty episode. :D

so wait
the Omnibus editions include 3 of the manga books? ie 1 is 1,2 and 3 then 2 is 4, 5 and 6?
may have to get that if so, GF has books 1-6 but the rest went out of print before we could get em!

Yup, it's about 3 volumes of the original manga per omnibus, at less than the cost of a single volume of the originals :)

I always meant to get the LH manga, but like a lot of the longer running stuff the price and availability of the (often many) previous volumes would scare me off.

I tend to find most things at a reasonable price, normally through use of Amazon Marketplace sellers like the Book Depository and by picking up "like new" second hand volumes.

The only series I wish I had but just can't find the manga at a reasonable price is Midori Days.

I have been doing some reading and have some new anime (to me) to watch soon:

I quite like the "It's like" headings as it opened up the above to me while reading about other anime :p

In that case check out the Anime Planet site which tends to have lots of recommendations based on the series you search for.

Currently making my way through Madoka on my day off, now up to the beginning of Episode 7. It certainly deserves it's darker reputation, as this is certainly no sailor moon, and you can definately feel both the shaft influence in the art style and use of light/dark, and it is reminiscent of Bakemonogatari in that sense, although unfortunately without the sense of humour for the most part, except things that seem unintentionally humourous, Kyubei's "I don't get people, they always get upset when I tell the truth" did make me chuckle slightly.

Either way, not my favourite genre but the adaptation is different, and interesting enough to make me want to finish it. Pleasantly it also seems to leave little to pure 'filler' and nearly every scene seems to have some small relevance to it.

Edit:

Managed to finish Madoka as I got a rare chance to marathon and I was intrigued by how it would end. Whilst the genre isn't my favourite so I'm not sure I'll return to Madoka, I can see why it was popular. It also reminded me of one of the reasons I like anime; Asian tendencies mean that whilst happy endings are quite possible, they aren't adverse to bittersweet, tragic or even ambiguous endings in the same way that western studios are, and if ever a series had a touch of bittersweet ending this is one of them; although I've seen far worse, indeed Clannad could be considered worse if it didn't pull a Deus Ex Machina at the end.

The music is all reasonable, and nothing felt out of place, and unlike some shows it feels like very little time was wasted. I wouldn't say it was perfect, indeed some of the characters felt a little stereotypical, but as far as its execution goes it was very well done.
Kyubei wins points for at once being ambiguous, cute, and creepy at the same time.

I would probably give it a 9/10; personally I prefered Bakemonogatari, but critically they are both very good shows although they have strengths in different areas. And being Shaft, they are both rather different from the norms.

Started on Himawari discs yesterday,1 disc down one to go :)
I am liking it so far Kunoichi in training lol.As a rest I started on the discs I had for Xmas Neia under seven, seen this ages ago and forgot how depressing the main girls voice is,especially at the end of each episode

Finished watching Hyakka Ryōran: Samurai Girls on BD this afternoon. Good action series with lots of fanservice with an art style which you'll either love or hate. The style is a bit odd and is very different from normal mainstream series. I did find the ink drop affect a bit irritating at times where it seemed to detract rather than enhance the visuals.

The series overall was quite good though.

Well this is a bit of a bummer ... (from ANN)

ANN said:
Bandai Entertainment to Stop Releasing New DVDs, BDs, Manga

N. American firm to still offer existing releases, shift focus to licensing in February

Bandai Entertainment, the subsidiary of Namco Bandai Holdings (USA) that handles anime and manga in North America, will stop offering new DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and manga releases next month. It will continue to distribute in its existing catalog lineup, but it will no longer produce and distribute new releases as of this February.

Instead, Bandai Entertainment will focus on licensing rights to other companies, particularly in digital distribution, broadcast, and merchandising. The company will be restructured as a result, and most of its contractors and three of its five fulltime staff members will be laid off. ANN will publish an interview with Bandai Entertainment President and CEO Ken Iyadomi on Tuesday.

The following releases have been cancelled:

Anime DVD/Blu-ray Disc

Gosick
Nichijō
Turn A Gundam

Manga

Code Geass: Renya (Code Geass: Shikkoku no Renya)
Gurren Lagann volume 7
Kannagi volumes 4-6
Lucky Star Boo Boo Kagaboo (spinoff by Eretto)
Mobile Suit Gundam 00I
Tales of the Abyss: Jade's Secret Memories volumes 1 and 2

Releases in Bandai Entertainment's current catalog will still be available after February, and Bandai Entertainment plans to produce new stock on these existing releases, if needed, until their respective licenses expire.

Bandai Entertainment closed its own online store in December, but other retailers can still order and carry Bandai Entertainment's current releases as before.
I think from the above listed titles I'm really only affected by the lack of the rest of the Kannagi manga and this announcement does explain why they strangely solicited both part 3 and part 4 of Tales of the Abyss for February.

I do wonder if anyone else will pick up the second season of K-ON!! ... I suppose that Sentai might.

It's sad but I suppose it has been on the cards for a while and it does mean that the reliability of whether solicitations come out in the month they were originally solicited for will be significantly better.

That news about bandai is a surprise and a real shame :(
They were one of the last of the original anime/dvd companies in the US and it's going to be a shame to see them going to just acting as a licence broker :(

I think that is pretty much all the "old guard" of anime companies in the US out of the direct releasing/bust/no longer doing new stuff - I think only Media Blasters is left out of the old group:( (ADV - bankrupt, reincarnated, animeago - no longer licensing and letting licenses expire, Pioneer/Geneon - pulled out acting as license dealer, Central Park Media - Bust).

On a less depressing note, I'm almost at the end of Arakawa Under the Bridge, which started off with me feeling a little cold towards it, but I'm really enjoying it now :)
I'm a bit stuck on what to watch next as i've got
Sorcerer Hunters
School Rumble S1 and 2
Diamond Daydreams
FMP: Fumoffu
Nanaka 6/17
And arriving tomorrow the UK release of Bebop remastered :)

I may go School Rumble.

School Rumble is quite good, although I wasn't impressed with the animation quality at times. Given you've just seen Arakawa (which I didn't get on with at all) it'd probably make a good change.

Of the rest Fumoffu is my favourite, followed by DD and then Nanaka. Although I'd probably switch DD and Fumoffu in that order to follow from School Rumble to keep that title and Fumoffu apart.

I'm currently watching Rin with my brother which I intend to finish this evening, also personally watching Shikabane Hime. I had tried watching Princess Resurrection but it was way too plot light and 'generic' shounen. I've heard the OVA is better, but it just didn't gel with me, and I dropped it after 3 episodes.

Shikabane Hime on the other hand seems quite good; the subject matter is somewhat similar to Princess so it made a perfect swap-out, especially as I am now about 2/3 of the way through the material I had intended for my Supernatural Season.
I am quite curious to see how this ends, as there seems to be a nice blend of action, slow burnign character development and underlying plot. Being Gainax, the visuals are also rather decent, and one or two shots have certainly reminded me of the likes of Gurren, and it's not as fanservice heavy as might be suggested being Gainax, in fact its mostly absent.

I quite liked Shikabane Hime when I watched it ... not really my favourite sort of thing but interesting none the less.

Finished watching the first series of Himawari! this afternoon ... well I'm going to have to go back and re-watch it at some point as I kept on dozing off at times. Overall I thought it was quite amusing, if very light. The characters were generally ok (although the main male character was very meh) and the animation was generally alright.

What was that pet/creature with the red arse though?dog?cat
and what was with that ending, weird compared to the rest of the episodes or what!!

Looks like Beez may have gone as well .... (unconfirmed at the moment)

Linky via UK Anime Network

Looks to be worse than Bandai US as at least they say they will continue reprinting releases until license expiry whilst it looks like it may be that when the current Beez stock is gone then it's gone ... if this is confirmed than a few quick purchases may be in order ...
