The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Wow thanks for the response @HungryHippos much appreciated. Yes, totally fine with subtitles and will check out your suggestions. Cyberpunk Edgerunners has been on my Netflix watchlist for a while and will see what others from your list I can find on there or CR.

No problem! One of my fav things that anime does is the opening and ending songs, I don't always like them, but they usually put some real effort into the songs they use. There are a couple of iconic live action show openings like Game of Thrones and Black Sails to me, but there are way more interesting anime ones.

I usually give them a listen or two, and skip any I don't like from that point onwards. The Chainsaw Man one is pretty good and apparently has a bunch of movie references in it (none of which I recognise!).

Some examples based on the list of shows above:

I have had no interest in anime in the past, but came across Chainsaw Man and started watching it (3 eps) on Crunch Roll and quite enjoyed it. Is it worth the subscription? Is there enough other good content to make it worth it?

Just to reiterate some of what @HungryHippos said. There is a lot of trash and trope heavy stuff out there (some of it i love :D) but there are "safer" and more "mature" options out there.

To steal some of @HungryHippos
  • Demon Slayer Crunchyroll
  • Attack on Titan Crunchyroll
  • Fate Zero/Fate Stay Night Crunchyroll
  • Violet Evergarden Netflix
  • Cyberpunk Edgerunners Netflix
  • 86 Crunchyroll
  • Promised Neverland (Season 1 only don't bother with more) Crunchyroll
  • Erased Crunchyroll
  • Overlord Crunchyroll
  • Lycoris Recoil Crunchyroll
  • Your Lie in April Crunchyroll

Ill also add:
  • Arcane (not really "Anime" but animated and very highly acclaimed) Netflix
  • Black lagoon (highly recommend watching the english dub over the Japanese version) Netflix
  • Steins gate/ Steins gate 0 Crunchyroll
  • A silent voice (film) Netflix
  • Goblin Slayer (1st episode is polarizing due to its graphic content) Crunchyroll
  • Jormungand (i still need to finish this but its good) Crunchyroll
  • Flying witch (its just a super super super chill slice of life) Crunchyroll

@Zenduri I like the red for Netflix and orange for Crunchyroll colours, very thematic! :)

I haven't seen Flying Witch yet but I did watch Journey of Elaina (Majo no Tabitabi) and if you like flying witches, it seems like it would be a good watch for you! It's a bit darker themed at times rather than strict slice of life, but it has some slice of life moments as well.

Speaking of, I tend to find slice of life stuff a little hit and miss, especially if it's the entire focus of the show, they can be a little too slow for me. I like them sometimes though, Barakamon was good, as was Girls Last Tour, and both of those kind of fit into that category. I was bored by Yuru Camp though, and that's meant to be one of the more popular ones.

I fully endorse Jormungand as a suggestion as well, perhaps not as an out of the gate suggestion, but one which I really enjoyed watching when I saw it.

Yeah seen Journey of Elaina and liked it. Flying Witch might be too slow for you though :D Its super super super chill and slow paced and no real story as such but its so well animated and the wholething is so chill

Re the colour coding i thought ti would make it easier for @TriedandTested rather than having to look it up

Appreciated Zenduri saves em some effort finding stuff for sure! :)

Crunchyroll clearly the front-runner for volume of content on demand, though some things aren't on any streaming platform at all at times, so you have to don the eye patch and hoist the sails.

My God...I posted a couple of days ago about watching Cyberpunk Edgerunners...I don't think any form of entertainment, be it TV show, film or anime or otherwise has affected me as much as Edgerunners. Initially I was definitely sad, but managed to just about keep it together at the end. But I can't get it out of my head, and I've been listening to that song over and over non-stop, and can't get through it dry-eyed. Trying to re-watch the episodes, particularly episode 2, just completely destroys me.

I'm enjoying "I'm a spider, so what!" on Crunchyroll

Fun concept but the VA in the Japanese language version carries this so hard. I stopped watching before the end because the quality dropped off the longer it went on.

This needed a better studio producing it because it's a missed opportunity to make something genuinely good.

I'm watching Gundam witch from Mercury which is really good so far, I recommend it to anyone here. It's standalone so can be watched without any other Gundam knowledge.

Try 86 next it starts a little slow but bare with it. Get the hankies ready.

Yeah it seemed like it was a good stopping point because there is a lot more world to explore out there, so I was pretty happy with how it ended as things stand.

My fav shonen is Demon Slayer I think, but Hunter x Hunter is clearly a top tier one to me as well. Fav anime is Monogatari/Madoka Magica.

What anime are people looking forward to next season?

I've had a quick scan on https://myanimelist.net/anime/season and the following are on my definite list:

https://myanimelist.net/anime/49387/Vinland_Saga_Season_2 - Vinland Saga Season 2
https://myanimelist.net/anime/50197/Ijiranaide_Nagatoro-san_2nd_Attack - Nagatoro Season 2
https://myanimelist.net/anime/50608/Tokyo_Revengers__Seiya_Kessen-hen - Tokyo Revengers Season 2
https://myanimelist.net/anime/41514...Bougyoryoku_ni_Kyokufuri_Shitai_to_Omoimasu_2 - Bofuri Season 2
https://myanimelist.net/anime/51105/NieR_Automata_Ver11a - Nier Automata very interested to see what they do with this

These on my maybe/try it out list:

https://myanimelist.net/anime/51252/Spy_Kyoushitsu - I didn't get on with Eminence in Shadow this season, but hopefully this isn't the same kind of thing, art looks interesting.
https://myanimelist.net/anime/52173/Koori_Zokusei_Danshi_to_Cool_na_Douryou_Joshi - Adult cast/workplace setting so could be more interesting than yet another school!
https://myanimelist.net/anime/51265/Inu_ni_Nattara_Suki_na_Hito_ni_Hirowareta - I admit, I am curious as to how this plays out.
https://myanimelist.net/anime/51462/Isekai_Nonbiri_Nouka - Nice tomatoes :)
https://myanimelist.net/anime/50652...you_no_Endou-kun_to_Kaisetsu_no_Kobayashi-san - Tsundere, not totally convinced I'll stick this one out.
https://myanimelist.net/anime/50854/Benriya_Saitou-san_Isekai_ni_Iku - The theme sounds fun, so I'll give it a shot.
https://myanimelist.net/anime/52736/Tensei_Oujo_to_Tensai_Reijou_no_Mahou_Kakumei - It's a yuri so i'm in.
https://myanimelist.net/anime/53213/Revenger - Gen Urobuchi so I'm going to try it out.
You missed this 1 https://myanimelist.net/anime/53446/Tondemo_Skill_de_Isekai_Hourou_Meshi The Fenrir VA is the same 1 who does Ainz Ooal Gown. I'm looking forward to this seasons Isekai series as they are manga's I'm currently reading.

I did see it but honestly doesn't look like my kind of thing, I dislike stuff that goes too slow, and don't really rate stuff like Yuru Camp, the isekai where it's another world but it's too chill is a negative. I don't tend to watch stuff just based on the strength of the VA, though the Spider one is the very definition of carried by VA.

Handyman one at least looks like there's some action going on, even if the main goal is fixing stuff! :)

I'm actually kind of out of anime to watch now though, I'm considering going back through some of my dropped shows and giving them another shot. Any recommendations for me would be welcome, my MAL is here so you can see what I've watched.

Def recommend Gundam With from Mercury to people now I'm near the end of the current episodes, it's a lot of fun.

*Checks name of poster, checks content of recommended anime*

"However, his ability to create delicious dishes unknown to this world soon pays dividends, even attracting the legendary wolf Fenrir."
Name checks out :D

Just finished watching JoJo's bizarre adventure star ocean. Probably the worst season out there. Just drags, bad plot and convenient wins with all the bad guys. Imo it gets worse each season.

Finished S1 of Mob Psycho 100. It's pretty amazing how ONE (the webcomic/manga author) has lucked out with his anime adaptations, getting studios who put in insane amounts of work and effort for both MP100 and One Punch Man (maybe s2 of the latter not so much)

Season 2 was the best one I think for MP100.

Was it Madhouse? they've definitely done a few interesting adaptations. I think they did Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong, both are quite arty.

Bones. I've not followed Anime for a very long time, so I'm completely out of the loop as to recent series, but they notably did both the Full Metal Alchemist series.
