The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

I would pick that up myself but i really want to get them all on Blu Ray.

Shangri-La really confused me when it originally aired but the fact that Range Murata was involved caught my interest.

Kokoro Connet and Tari Tari are both coming along nicely i think. The both started off a bit poorly but now that they've really started to explore their characters it's been quite enjoyable to watch both. Looking forward to Sawa's arc in Tari Tari.

I believe that Manga have indicated that they may re-investigate releasing the series on BD next year if they can get a better rate for BD manufacturing.

I only managed to watch the first half of the series from CrunchyRoll originally before getting distracted/bored but that was watching an episode at a time. I think that it did benefit quite a bit from being marathoned.

Personally I don't think that they started off poorly but I am enjoying both of the series. The only criticism I'd give them at the moment is with Tari Tari it seams to have been a bit single threaded with it maybe concentrating to much on one thing at a time instead of weaving things together more.

Finished watching Showa Monogatari this evening. Certainly a different series .... very much a slice of life series about a normal family living in 1964 Tokyo in the run up to the Olympics. They have normal family problems and it's just about their lives. It's very much like the three Always - Sunset on 3rd live action movies (very good if you like this sort of thing and available on DVD with subtitles).

My copy of FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood The Complete Series arrived today. The front cover looks awesome, im guessing its the two main characters on look pretty badass. Cant wait to watch it, ill leave it till i have a week off starting 25th august.

Lucky, still waiting for the Blu-ray set to be completed :(

Watched Dog Days, it was pretty good

I enjoyed the first series of Dog Days ... it was good brainless fun and managed to do this without becoming overly silly. The second season seems reasonable so far which hopefully it will keep up ...

Looking forward to this.
Hope it has not been posted here before :)

Hidamari Sketch is one of those series I need to be in the right mood for. It takes a series with cute girls not doing very much to new heights. If I'm in the wrong mood then there is a good chance I'll fall asleep with it on :)

Finished a couple of things today ...

Umineko: When They Cry ... aka When Seagulls Cry not to be confused with When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) although, according to Wikipedia, it does follow on (in the loosest possible meaning of that phrase) from the first two seasons of that. At its heart it is a murder mystery series about the happenings to a family on an island. The story is replayed several times and there are questions over whether the causes of what happens are human or magical. Warning the series is a bit gruesome at times (like the original When They Cry).

This isn't my normal sort of genre of series but I did find quite a bit of it to be reasonably good. There were a few points that felt a bit weak though and some of the stuff near the end was a bit haphazard, almost as if they realised that they were fast coming up on 26 episodes and needed to do something to end it ... what they didn't do though is give the series a proper ending ... apparently there are further game(s?) which follow on and expand things but the end of this series is a bit abrupt and doesn't really conclude anything satisfactorily.

The other series I watched was Nagasarete Airantou. This is a very standard harem comedy type series. Chap is running away from home, falls off a ship and ends up being washed up on a remote island. The island is populated entirely by women (at this time ... there were men in the past) and is cut off from the outside world by storms and whirlpools preventing escape and normally preventing people coming in.

This being a PG series the immediate reaction is for most of the population to try to marry the main male character. There is quite a large recurring cast who manage to handle most of the usual stereotypes for female characters and there are various animal characters as well which people can converse with (including tonkatsu the pig, karaage the chicken and sashimi the orca). Overall the series is fairly predictable at times although it's a good no-brainer, fun, watch. Don't expect anything deep and complicated, just the usual type of comedy, slapstick humour and general chaos. Visually it's a typical 2007 series. I thought it was quite amusing overall.

The latest Tari Tari was great, and I like Sawa's storyline, it's definitely a situation that most people can relate to, probably not involving a horse though.

Still liking Sword Art Online, it's nice switch your brain off fun. Now that many of the side stories/characters have been dealt with the main plot should start plodding along again. There is still another side story that is essential to the plot but judging by the opening animation that will definitely appear at some point.

Mysterious Girlfriend X is a strange series. I just wish it didn't have the drool gimmick as part of the plot as otherwise it looks to be a bit of retro quirkiness. I wonder what the animators were thinking when they had to animate that show... I watched the first episode, It's on crunchyroll so I'll marathon it at some point. I'll just make sure I'm not eating or drinking anything at the same time.

Mysterious Girlfriend X was a decent series, really didn't expect it from the slobberfest that the first episode made me expect!

Has anyone been watching Joshiraku? Really enjoying it as a comedy though it doesn't seem to be a popular show.

I thought that it was pretty good although you'd have thought that she would have realised already that she's really a bit big to be a jockey and even starving herself wasn't going to affect her height.

Riding the horse to school was amusing, although I didn't expect it to be left in the bike racks, more just grazing in the garden between the buildings. The use of phone calls as a delaying action was good too.

I'm still liking this more than I expected I would. It does need to move the main plot along now though as all these side stories seem to have made the series lose all momentum.

I found it ok, but gross ... the slightly retro character designs take a bit of getting used to but over all seem to work well. The series itself it rather gross and didn't really seem to go anywhere ...

I've seen a handful of episodes and it's quite amusing, in some ways the sort of humour reminds me of Lucky Star or even Azumanga Daioh, but at times it seems to be trying a bit to hard.

There was a good link on the UK Anime Network Twitter feed earlier this afternoon if you like Tari Tari. It's a link to a YouTube video showing the real life locations used in the series by PA Works ... Amazingly true to life in some cases.

linky

Of course you have K-On and Hanasaku Iroha (I'll be just down the road from the latter in October but unfortunately won't be able to get there). TvTropes has a page just talking about this sort of thing,

Many series also go to recognisable places on trips (like the sites in Kyoto in many series (like K-On season 2) and Nakano in Tokyo in Asobi Ni Iku Yo!).

edit:

Are, now I actually have a computer instead of on a phone to look at the Tari Tari film I see that it's supposedly Enoshima near Kamakura ... interesting, you can get there in around an hour from Shinjuku station apparently and the green train runs between there and Kamakura. You can get a special pass that gets you to the area and unlimited travel on the local trains for ~£13. Not the first time I've seen Enoshima island show up in animes either.

tried to like HOTD but failed'will put it on my to finish list.just could not get into it,and the guy with the automatic nail gun weapon did make me smile as there is no way he could have made a nail gun work like That in the short period of time he did,not only that but nails don't fly out straight and stick in things,i know i have tried :D

Re the locations, as you say a lot of anime do location scouting to get a really detailed background.
IIRC Gunsmith Cats had the director and several others go to Chicago to get location shots, and even capture the sound of the main car Rally uses.
Some would say that at times it's used as an excuse for an expenses paid trip out ;)

I got a bit of a surprise earlier, an email from Anime on line to say my Rosario & Vampire set had shipped :) (I ordered it from them direct because of the extra, and to support them - hopefully they'll do something similar with other releases).

HOTD was one that I grew to like quite a bit once I started to ignore the boobs a bit:p

I was quite surprised with HOTD, it's not really a type of show I normally like but it definitely grew on me. The colour hardback omnibus of the first 4(?) volumes of the manga is pretty good too.

Other location things that I remember were Full Metal Panic TSR, which had Hong Kong location scouting features on the disks which were pretty good, and A__a had a series of extras apologising to Venice with the crew looking at locations there too.

I made a start of Rosario & Vampire last night, having bought it pretty much blind.
So far I'm enjoying it, it's sort of silly but fun :) (up to episode 6).

Yep, don't expect to be intellectually stretched, but it is reasonably good fun :)

edit: had a nice delivery day which squeaked in before the bank holiday weekend ... includes the NISA release of Usagi Drop and the second half of K-On!! season 2 on BD (as well as some manga ... :)

I had a rather large delivery yesterday which included the bunny drop and second part of K-On!! season 2 (I still have to get the last two volumes of the first season on blu-ray to complete the series on blu-ray) along with the Shana season 1 set and some manga (which included the copy of the disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan that I've been waiting over two weeks for).
