The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Sword Art Online

One of the best shows I have seen in a while!

The LN which it's made from is incredibly good. Accel World is written by the same guy.

Also the episodes are in chronological order which the LN isn't so it takes a way some of the feeling of the story. A lot of the episodes so far have been side stories from the 2nd volume.

I've never read the LN I've just dove straight into the anime. I wonder if I can get the LN anywhere, in English of course lol

I'll trust you the page for the download links.

Your trust isn't setup XD

Get ones and unless you want to read something very NSFW don't get the chapter 1 + Extra.

The first volume is what the anime will be. The second volume is the side stories (Lizbeth, Christmas and serial killer episodes).

I watched Sword Art Online 09 three times now in a row, that episode was epic, it just went by so quickly.

I fapped a little everytime they said "Nito-Ryu" uhuhuhu. :p

That was probably one of my fav parts of SAO. Unfortunately it was somewhat ruined because of the Lizbeth episode where you see him get the second sword (the part where he shows her the skill was removed from that ep also)

One thing that I haven't been able to understand yet in SAO is how the hell are their real life bodies functioning? Have their families hooked them up to IV's and put bed pans everywhere? :O

The thought of being stuck in a Virtual Reality MMO doesn't sound too bad though xD Join a guild, make lots of money, take a look at the wonderful towns, open a smithing shop, etc.

they were given a few hours where they could be unplugged from the net but still remained unconscious so they could be transported to a special care facility

Just watched Bleach : Fade to Black.

Amazing. fyi

Anyone recommend me a series thats similar to bleach, I loved it.

New to anime tbh.

You'd probably like Naruto and Dragonball Z if you like Bleach.

Not exactly similar to Bleach as they are Mecha Animes but you should definitely watch Gurren Lagann and Eureka Seven. Excellent shows!

Bleach was great until they finished the Hueco Mundo arc then it became so bad they cancelled the anime =/
Problem with long running anime is the fillers due to catching up quickly to the original source material.

Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, DBZ are the IMO very generic anime that anyone can like and are fun to watch but they're filled with plot-holes and bad storylines.

I'd recommend that you watch Code Geass, Durarara, D.Gray-Man, Blood+, Darker Than Black, .Hack//Sign and .Hack//Roots, Eden Of The East(Higashi No Eden), Gundam00 and Madoka Magica.

Those are a select few of some of the best anime in the past 10 or so years. There are some classics out there aswell like Cowboy Bebop and AKIRA.

I would call the majority of those "some of the best anime" of that period by any stretch ... Eden of the East was clever but the rest were either generally poor or over-rated. I do agree with you on Bleach, Naruto etc though ...

Sword Art Online is ok, but I prefer several of the other series airing this season.

Anyway, so far this weekend I've been catching up on some of the various current series I'm watching and finished a re-watch of Chihayafuru, really nice series with great bgm, characters and manages to deal with a story about a competitive game without having the principle characters winning all the time ... roll on series two ...

Currently re-watching Library Wars as would appear that the movie is going to be an in-flight choice for me ...

I'd like to see a list of what you think some of the best animes of the past 10 years then.

The ones I listed are admittedly some of the most successful and some people dislike the mainstream anime but I wouldn't call any of them poor.
I especially wouldn't call any of them over-rated until they actually started being released in the west where it's natural for fanboys and fangirls to blow everything out of proportion (i.e. Beiber, Twilight etc)

Beck
Kanon 2006
Clannad (/only with AfterStory)
Black Lagoon
Spice and Wolf
Bakemonogatari
Wolf's Rain
Full Metal Panic
Elfen Lied
Toradora!

Ok...thats not Memyselfandandi's list, but I'd say these are 10 EXTREMELY good shows from the last 10 years. Bakemonogatari could also go down as overrated, but its at least up there with Madoka in this respect.
Replace Bakemono with Higurashi S1/2 if you want something a bit :o

Any such list would vary enormously from person to person ... personally from the last 10 years I would include ...

Clannad (including After Story)
K-ON!
Ghost in the Shell SAC
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
A__a (several series about undines which is censored here)
Hanasaku Iroha
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
Macross Frontier
Toradora
Sora no Woto
Usagi Drop

Which is only 11 "main stream" titles, (I could go on with series like Ah! My Goddess (the series fall within the last 10 years), Samurai 7, Samurai Champloo, Nodame Cantabile, Genshiken, FMA, Black Lagoon ...), and doesn't include many of the more non-"main stream" titles which I like as well ...

... and of course you have films such as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars.

Personally I find Code Geass and Madoka over-hyped for what they are ... the latter in particular suffers from this. Durarara, Darker than Black and the .hack series' I personally found average at best ... and yes I do own them.

edit:

and Alex's list has a few others on it that I considered adding but limited myself to ~10 in the main list (although technically the first season of Full Metal Panic is over 10 years old now as according to Wikipedia it finished airing in June '02) ;)
