I also made that comment to ask if it was happening in the UK. You've given examples from areas where hostilities and war have been ongoing for some time.

Yet all of these seem to pale into insignificance when compared with a national army persecuting a people and claiming land as their own.

They are killing children.
They are killing innocents.
They are committing crimes against humanity.

haha that old chesnut, So theyre not "real muslims" right? Why are "hostilities" going on in the first place? Might be something to do with the religion theyre following, they think that the best way to implement the sharia is through force, you either convert, pay a tax to live there, or in a lot of cases just get out right murdered if youre an unbeliever/christian/wrong type of muslim. They dont shout "for atheism! for reason and democracy!" when they murder people do they.

Oh I don't support bombing Gaza but I don't support indiscrimnate rocket barrages into Tel Aviv either.

Court case re: some properties in East Jerusalem.

From what I can gather the claim is that these properties were owned by some Jewish families until 1948 when they were kicked out by Palestinians (though they, in turn, had perhaps been kicked out from other areas), ownership was transferred to some Jewish organisation and Palestinians have been living there ever since. The Jewish organisation wants to remove the Palestinians and use the properties to house Jewish settlers... some court case relating to this has been dragging on for some time and seems to have ruled against the Palestinians... this has caused some obvious unrest.

What appears to have escalated things is that among this unrest some Palestinians threw rocks from their holy site (Al Aqsa Mosque) onto some Israelis at their holy site below, this resulted in Israeli security forces storming the Mosque... which in turn seems to have lead to Hamas launching rockets which in turn has lead to Israel bombing Gaza.

Thanks for the information @Janesy B and @dowie

It seems to be one of those conflicts that seems to be very complex with histories playing a big role.

I just hope that loss of life is minimal.

Now relations between Israel and other Muslim countries have improved, maybe at some point there could be a meeting done to at least find a temporary solution.

That militant group is also democratically elected by their people (unfortunatly for them they havent been given a choice since that election, but you get what you deserve). Israel is surrounded by nations that want them wiped out, their response is giving warning of their target to ensure no civilian deaths, Hamas's responds by sending 200 rockets at civilians.

But the Jews are dirty thieves and Palestinians are perpetual victims? Yeah ok, as far as I'm concerned the Israelis are absolute saints and show more restraint and composure than any other Nation would that was in its situation. It's obvious in these threads who's got their opinions fed to them from their group think ideology.
 
Can someone explain why 'the internet'/twitter seems appears be wholly on the side of Palestine in this complex conflict? Is it as simple as it just being the default left-wing position?

Taking recent events at face value, you have Israel launching air strikes, claiming to be targeting militants hiding in civilian areas, killing some innocents in the process. I'm inclined to believe that they aren't using very expensive laser guided bombs to deliberately target random pockets innocent people, for capitalist reasons if nothing else. Debatable collateral damage.

Then you have Palestinian militants launching a barrage of hundreds of unguided rockets at populous Israeli cities. The fact that this is happening is not debated at all, is akin to indiscriminately shooting a gun into a crowd of people, & undoubtedly fits the definition of a warcrime.
