Yes I do. I'm old fashioned. The captain needs to be the first player on the team sheet. He leads the troops from the front. We have Wenger for the tactical overview.

I think it's a wasted opportunity not having your captain on the pitch.

And when he is fit and the other two are fit too, he wont be playing.
 
I'm gobsmacked that Mert is captain. First of all what damned influence is he going to have when he's injured, so won't be playing. Is he going to shout out orders from the injury table?? :p.

Wenger being Wenger as per usual. I would have made Kos the captain for this season, at least he plays. Our captain stats are hilarious, none of them stay fit long enough to make any difference.

**** it I'd have given Xhaka the captaincy, he looks like a natural born leader.

Meh not looking forward to tomorrow's game, either we draw or get our backsides handed to us. I'll take a draw personally.

Proper dinosaur, Per has been captain for years, just because he's injured you don't whip away the captaincy. Kompany was injured a lot last year, did you see him being stripped of the captaincy. No.

There are many leaders within the club, not just Per

I get that, but Kompany is a first teamer and an integral part of the team. Merty in my opinion is someone we should be looking for a buyer for. He's a liability.

Thre's a lot more to captaincy nowadays though. It's not just about being the best player on the pitch. Mert isn't going to be sold, he's got a good tactical mind on him, he's just a bit slow.

Also just to add, when I say the captain needs to lead from the front, I don't necessarily think he needs to be the best player on the pitch ala Messi or Ronaldo. No, he needs to be in my eyes either a CB or a CM. Someone with obvious leadership skills, someone that when the opposition is on top and bossing the game steps up to the challenge and starts getting the team organised and rising to the challenge. The captain is the one the rest will look too then things aren't going to plan.

Whats the point in making Merty captain. He's not first choice and also a liability. It undermines he's authority.

There are loads of leaders on the pitch, well, hopefully you have around 4 or 5 anyway. It's not like you have 1 though. The psychologists would have studied the squad over time and found that Per is the one that people interact with and talk to, the squad will look up to him, remember the guy has over a 100 caps for Germany. we obviously just have different views on what a captain should be

You have a point regarding the sports psychologists.
 
There is a difference between somebody being match fit because they haven't trained properly, and somebody with chocolate hamstrings nursing a hamstring injury and choosing to start him anyway.

Kos and Giroud could probably have played, they would most likely have been off the pace, but I doubt they were at much more of a risk of injury. Ramsey should not have been risked if it was known he was carrying a hamstring tweak.
