if the bio's is 1.20 or later(new bio's is 1.30 from asrock) you should have no problems as i got a 144 running and that was from a 3800x2 cpu in it before ,i runs very fine and overclocks well also ,There is a few orther bio's out there wich let you go over 300HTT if needed. I have flashed from 1.10wich my board came with to 1.20 but change last night to dif bio's wich have a few better thing in it
not hard if you do as it say on the tin!!

how is your 146 clocking mate? I shall be clocking my 144 when it arrives!

So 120 bios works fine ,so how do i go about flashing the bios to 120 if that is not the default on the board, will the cpu work well enough with the 1.10 bios to let me flash to an updated one ?

Im worried that the cpu will simply not work at all until i flashed the bios ,which leaves the question remaining ,how do i flash the bios if i have no cpu installed ?

have a look what the sticker says on the bios chip, mine arrived today and says "1.20"

thats pretty good going pizzaboy, FX57 speeds :D

what vcore are you pushing through it and are these 3rd party bios's safe to use?

that was with the 1.20 Bio wich does not give you more than 1.43Volts in bio's. Also it whould not take me over the magic 300HTT. So i had to use that OCWBeta2 Bio's to get past 300,Plus i did the modding today wich give you upto 1.55V. But as i am only using Geil Value Ram I stopped here as i can't go any further. ALso my zaman 7700Aclu cooler is only running at 1300Rpm (Quiet) the heat started to get a bit high above the 2850Mhz with 1.55V. So i am keeping this one and going to get some better Ram and mabye a better cooler and push it again.

can't wait to get going on it, surely over timer ASRock will see the need for more vcore adjustment and issue this in a later bios release?

quick compatiblity check (for a mate) with this board - anyone using the any of the following?

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail
Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x512MB) CAS2
Hiper HPU-4B580 Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU
Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 NCQ 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache (in sata 2 mode)

any niggles/problems?

thanks

joe

Joe,
im not a total expert on this board since i just got one myself, the RAM may be a problem ,it might not get enough power to do tight timings due to lack of vdimm adjustment (asrock better fix this :p),my geil ultra-X is meant to have 2-2-2-5 timings but its running at 2.5-2-2-5.

i would just like it to work at the rams stock timings - will this be ok do you think?

I've got some OCZ Performance PC4000, now, i've never used an A64 before, and i was going to buy an Opteron 146 with this board, do you run the RAM synchronously or does it not matter as much with A64 systems (i'm coming from Socket A :D )

nah a64 doesnt mind, not like the socket a.

What heatsinks are people hanging off the standard Asrock socket? Just got the Freezer 64 Pro and not sure about attaching it without a backing plate.
