yes your board will most likely come with bios revision 1.2 , but you will have no problems running your opteron with that..
just remember a good Psu , and some ram wich does not want to much voltage and you should be fine

Got mine setup and running today. Was I have to say a very easy and painless upgrade, took out old stuff, but new board and CPU in and off she went, no worries.

The only thing I've found so far is it's not happy about having different brands of ram in there, so I had to take out 2 x 256 meg strips as I was getting random crashes in games and so on. Took them out and things seem a little beter. Will flash the bios on it tomorrow I think, have done enough messing about today.

So far very happy with this board, upgrading the gfx card after xmas as I think the old 9800 Pro is a bit of a bottle neck now.

thanks a lot I have Kingston value ram will that be ok also 450 watt psu also the opteron 146 number is cacje 0546BPW

should be ok just run your ram on a divider 166 or 133 and raise that HTT up to the hopefull magic 3 ghz ;)

ups forgot to say you will need one of the beta bios if you want to go over 275HTT as on all the asrock bios there is a lock on them so you can't go over 275 HTT

OK so just because I am daft, When you say run the ram on a divider I take it you mean set the memory type to DDR 133 / 166 and where do you set the HTT?

I have my ram set to DDR 200 and the CPU set to 270 x 10 in the manual clockset for the cpu speed. It wont run any faster and the volts are maxed.

Its an Opty 146 and I have 2GB ram, 4 x 512mb.

Runs fine at 2750 Mhz and plays games fine. Wont prime though.

What settings should I use to get to 3Mhz?

Thanks

if you have the ram at ddr200 you are runing 1:1 so you ram if running at 270Mhz (what ram have you got ? ) set the ram at 166 and thy that regards your volt if you and maxing out at 1.45V and it is not stable at 2750Mhz i think you need the Vmood so you can get upto 1.55V

i havn't played around with those so i cant help - my guess is leave it at 4 beats the lower the better.

Here are a few bios settings i've collected from thee web which are food for thought, especially the last one!!

#1 - Installed OCWB Beta Bios 1
#2 - Memory altered to DDR200 in BIOS(Async) use only for 1/1 clocking
#3 - CPU-NB Link speed set to 600Mhz
#4 - NB-SB Link speed set to 600Mhz
#5 - Cool and Quiet Disabled
#6 - CPU Voltage set to 1.45V
#7 - FSB set to 317 , in async with PCI Bus(100Mhz)

And Voila. 2853Mhz

Have you dropped the HTT multipliers?
Stock ASRock BIOS all pretty much stop at 270-274 MHz.
The OCW Beta 1 and 2 will go over 300.
Set CPU/NB, and NB/SB to 600 (3X), or lower.

try ocwbeta bios 2, it helped me getting over the 260...

# normally the official bios blocks at 270, but mine did at 260, now 280 is reachable. Btw you are using async mode?

"Flexibility Option" seems to lock the RAM multiplier. I've turned it off, and now I get different multipliers for DDR200 and DDR266

Just discovered that systool v1.0 Build 624 lets you up the core volts to about 1.50v with no m/b modification!!
Lets me clock from 260 to 270mz stable with prime95 using standard bios 1.4 & opty146 stock cooler :)
