The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

You might be right, I'm 41 you know, CRT engraved in the mind hehe

LOL I am right behind you and remember the CRT's all too well. Them going all distorted when a magnet was placed near by! You have me paranoid now and looking for some speakers that are magnetically shielded hehe

haha! Bit OT here, but remember those big ass magnets to degauss CRT's ? Was scary watching it. My big Sony Trinitron needed it almost every 6 months heh.

I never degaussed mine but had a sony trinitron widescreen TV which I loved at the time. If memory serves me correct iyama CRT monitors used trinitron screens

They used the Mitsubishi DiamondTron Tube

My first monitor was a 17" Iiyama Vision Master Pro and I then upgraded to the 19" Iiyama Vision Master Pro..both of them cost me over £400 each back around the year 1998...

The VisionMaster PRO 450 uses Mitsubishi's DiamondTron NF TM Tube, which is a natural flat tube. Is it more flat than the older Trinitron tube? Yes. I have viewed this monitor along side a 21" Sony Trinitron and a ViewSonic SonicTron tube and there is no comparison.
They look like bubbles beside the VisionMaster Pro 450.

Guess again good sir!! (or click on the spoiler:o:D)

The little beach near Caerhays Castle many moons ago:)
Its great to hear everyone (mostly:p) is enjoy the Swift. I initially felt a little queasy paying early adopter tax but it was worth every penny:)

Great to hear some discussion on speakers as that's my next purchase choice. This monitor deserves better than the 20 year old trust ones I'm currently using:o:cool:

Hello guys,

Maybe someone can help me a bit. I just finished a new build with the ROG Swift as the cherry on top. My GPU is a ZOTAC GTX 980 reference with a GA-Z97MX. I'm getting no signal on the Asus Rog Swift monitor (obviously) through the display port, and I've tested the card on my tv via hdmi and it works fine. If I'm on win 7 with the hdmi and connect the rog swift, the system recognizes it and I can see it as a second monitor but the system will not allow me to extend, duplicate or change displays (never seen that before).
Have you guys experienced something like that ?
Oh one last thing, for those ROG swift owners, If the monitor is on but unplugged from the PC and press the menu button should it display the menu? I haven't been able to see it just wondering if it is normal.

Thanks for your input!

Lots of reviews around. I wanted it to fail because I dislike Asus and because of the cost, but I was wrong. Excellent monitor, gysnc is outstanding, 1440p is great and colour reproduction on this is by far the best on a tn I have seen.

No doubt alternatives that are more wallet friendly will come along later, but for now I consider this flat out the best monitor I've owned.

+1 I was put off by the price .. But it's by far the best screen I ever owned (I've had a lot of screens )

I've never spent this much on a monitor and like above was put off by the price, however it's an outstanding monitor so far.

I've never really been fussed about displays (was running a cheapo 22'' 1080p display for a few years) whilst running some nice hardware. Going to this display is the difference between night and day!

Like the others I can't sing high enough praise for the swift, and I'm a screen and graphics whore.
I bought one primarily to see what gsync was really like, and I was about 70% sure before I pulled the trigger I'd end up returning it under DSR because of the the TN panel (I've been IPS and VA for years).

But, it's going nowhere. The colour reproduction and accuracy once tweaked a bit is superb. The contrast and blacks are as good as my dell 29 ips superwide, which has one of the best ips contrast levels out there. The only issue is the gamma/ colour shift when viewing from up or down angles, but this really isn't an issue in games. And gaming is what this monitor is for, and it really does do a good job.

That's what I really don't like about it too, It doesn't matter where I place myself, high or low, or the middle, the colour shift imo is horrible. Ok, it's not a great issue in games, its there and this is what you are paying for and I use my desktop a lot too and when browsing or email etc this is when you notice just how bad it is vertically.

What really annoys me the most is that ok the native res of the panel is great, but watching a movie, or a youtube movie in say 1080p for example, its a mess, its not sharp, its grainy and really not nice to watch.

Move the full monitor res itself down to say 1080p itself, its like putting on a pair of glasses to blur everything.

As much as this monitor is great for gaming, it has a lot of flaws.

I wanted to buy the monitor and the Nvidia gpu at the same time so like a few others missed out on the £630 price.

I emailed customer services to ask about the b grade and was there still the Asus warranty with the monitor.

Response was

"The 90 day warranty is the only warranty with this product, any manufacturer warranty is void"

Surely that can't be true?

I have my system plugged into a Sony amp and 5.1 surround speakers coupled with this screen I couldn't be happier as for the centre speaker I velcro fastened it under the desk

Thanks for the info, great idea with the velcro:cool::)

Maybe one day you'll get to go back, it's unfortunate that progression often means leaving the South West but it doesn't have to be forever:)

I must have had terrible luck or can just see the imperfections many cant, had two and sent both back due to interlacing/crosshatch/inversion or whatever you wanna call it, once i saw it it was there all the time :( completely non existent on static images/desktop but once the screen started moving it was really off putting. it was most easily visible when white smoke was on the screen contrasted against a darker colour, the starting 2 mins of ethan carter for example looked way worse on the swift at 1440p than on my old 1080p 120hz monitor, also 3d vision genuinely looked interlaced (no hyperbole)

gsync was awesome though and i miss it, it's the first piece of pc hardware i've ever sent back and i was gutted as it's the exact spec i want, honestly no idea what to buy now, will wait for the benq with the same panel or if not try the acer 4k

I was playing Ryse over the weekend, this is the first time I've really used GSync much (gone from AMD to 980 SLI) and developed an awful headache after a few hours. Hopefully a coincidence....
