The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Hey guys :>

I'm reaaaally interested in the Rog Swift, although I'm trying to justify the price (who isnt? :D)

Have a quick question, I primarily play CS:GO, Fifa and WoW, the latter 2 will be fine with 1440p but what about CS resolution? Im used to playing 16:9 / 1080p, how will it affect that? Anyone playing it? Are you using the native res or still with 1080p?

Cheers!

(Sucks to see many people having issues with this product, hope it gets sorted :) )

I play WoW on it too, looks great.

Its definitely the best purchase for gaming i have ever made, along with the 970 GTX :)

I'd say go for it. I was lurking for a while and then decided to just do it. My swift is perfect and I play lots of WoW on it. On the 144Hz setting with fps cap at slightly under this (135), I have almost zero input lag which is great for PvP. It has improved my game considerably and my performance.

Nice! I have a 970/144 Benq monitor already so idk if Gsync/1440p is worth it... ill prolly just cave in and get it! It is Xmas after all :D

I get +100 fps in WoW 1080p so should be ok for 1440p?

What about playing CS at 1080p/16:9 ? Cheers

1440p is still a 16:9 resolution so there shouldn't be any difference in games other then things looking sharper. The only difference you will notice is the FPS drop due to the higher res.

Oh dear,

I've only had mine since October, and I'm now getting a strange effect where it looks like small text is twitching, almost as if it is being moved up and down by 1 pixel and blurred at the same time. Strangely enough, not everything seems to be affected. And even more wierdly when I first noticed it, it was doing it at 60Hz but not 144Hz. Today it's the opposite way around!

One thing I haven't tried is messing with the SLI video cards - already had to pull them once when my first motherboard turned out to be DOA. I have tried a different DP socket and that was the same. Second card didn't want to output, but I guess that is because of the SLI.

Any fellow inhabitants of flaky swift-ville?

Can i ask how the colors are compared to other TN 120/144hz monitors out there? Im currently on a 29" Ultra wide AOC and the colors are fantastic but im getting more and more tired of the overall display delay in twitchy games like BF4, but i cannot go back to the horrible colors my old 120hz sammy has either. I dont care 1 bit about g-sync and i mostly likely wont be using nvidia the next time i upgrade my GFX.

After a bit of tweaking (mostly managing gamma through windows :S) I've got the colours about as good as I'd expect to get from a gaming TN. At the very least it doesn't make me wince every time I turn it on like the BenQ XL2420T it replaced :S

I guess thats good news then, my current 120hz sammy is driving me nuts with its blueish tint and pi**poor colors. I dont expect perfect "IPS" like colors but just good enough. Would you be so kind to share your calibrated settings?

Would you get a decent playable experience with one of these with a single 970 or would you need a 980 ? Say if I was running games at medium/high and hoping for 40-60FPS

you would be better off going with 970SLI than a 980... the price difference between a 970 and a 980 is quite large, but the performance difference not so much

but yes you would get a playable experience in that range with a single 970, if you wanted to whack everything up to full you could do that with SLI

Thanks for the quick response I was kind of thinking of getting this monitor as even though it is a lot it would last me a long while. Then getting either a MSI or Hall of Fame 970 and either then waiting for the 1000 cards to come out and getting either the 1070 or 1080 to replace the 970 or getting another 970 and getting a larger PSU so I could SLI.

Agree with andy, used s single 780 for a while with this and everything ran great

Pretty sure a 970 is slightly better than a 780 right or at least equilivant to one so thanks for that appreciate it.

Has anyone got a second 60Hz non gsync screen alongside their SWIFT?

I'm trying to setup my old HPLP2475W as a second screen alongside my swift so I can view TS chat and the BF4 battlescreen while BF4 is fullscreen on the swift. Most of the time my frame rate on the SWIFT will drop to 59Hz when I try this.

With a bit of switching between monitors and changing the in game settings, I can coax 120Hz out of it, but as soon as I switch focus it reverts to 59Hz and I have to go through the whole process again.

I'm guessing that 120fps is as much as my 970s can cope with while running the 1200p screen as well, this would be OK if I can get the settings to stick.
(Although an IPS wide gamut screen looks quite garish next to the SWIFT).

Any tips would be much appreciated. :)

I do. I have my dell 29 superwide ips to one side. This runs happily at 60hz, or even 75hz overclocked and has no impact at all on my Swift, which I run at 120hz 99% of the time.

My swift is connected via display port (obvioulsy, only option) and my dell via DVI, both to the same top card. I have an SLI set up but that makes no difference.

Your problem must be driver and/ or settings related, is all I can say, as it definitely works. Anyone else any ideas?
