The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

A 780 is not a 970, and you can lol if you like but when the Vram goes over 3.5gb those 970s will have problems.

Do you actually understand how that 3.5/4 gb ram on the 970s works. In the majority of games it will pool it for infrequent textures and in some it won't even bother using it it's not like as soon as you go above 3.5 all hell breaks loose, just bad press for bad advertising.

Considering that I had 2 of them and returned for a 980, then yes I think it's fair to say I understand how it works.

Do you?

The speed discrepancy is clear even when not using over 3.5GB total ram.

The allocation system is not optimised... it will still be used and cause stuttering.

Moved from 970 SLI -> 980SLI and the difference is clear even when only 2.5GB is in active use.

Once you go over 3.5GB... it's horrible... FC4 and Dying Light are good examples.

Please have a clue about what you're posting before you mis-inform others.

^^ this
The guy has no clue what he is talking about. I am on 970sli and as soon as memory goes above 3.5GB is stutterfest, Dying Light and Cod AW in 3d are perfect examples.

If you have a 980 and 970 system side by side... you can even see the difference in stuttering (albeit not as amplified as when nearly using the full framebuffer) when only 2-2.5GB is in use... so the memory is clearly being addressed before it needs to be... there is bugger-all optimisation in place at the moment... maybe it will come in future driver releases, I hope, for all 970 owners. I'm happy to have made the switch.

Hi guys, re reading my post i have made myself look like bit of a ****, So apologies for that String.

I am running 970 Sli myself on a swift and i have had no noticeable issues yet hence my post. I do run some settings off however as i don't like the effects IE Motion blur ect and i never have AA on this may be turning the tide in my cards favor.

No worries, mate.

If you run Shadow Of Mordor with everything maxed out, you might see the issues in action.

However, some people don't mind switching off some eye candy, and others want it all up full, so an informed decision is all people can aim for.

Hey mate,

Actually just bought Shadow Of Mordor ( i had it on ps4 loved it ) to test this out on the swift and check for what you are saying.

I can see what you mean with stutters now however when i turn off AA and motion blur ( that are tied together? ) it seems to be alright. Not far into the game yet and not come across any vast openings/large population areas so will wait and see in a few hours how it goes with these settings. still looks great reminds me how good the swift is aswel.

Yea, AA and Motion Blur turned off is a big improvement. That's my point, really... some people simply would not want to compromise like that!

You will come to a different area later in the game, and it will be more noticeable. I won't say any more than that for obvious reasons.

Currently running the B Grade swift completely fine,

I'm running a single 780 6gb edition and cpu/memory is in my sig.

I am getting roughly 45-55fps on BF4 constantly on ultra settings so in regards to 970's i believe this should be fine as well.

Tell the truth i haven't looked into have much VRAM i am eating up so i cannot comment on the 3.5GB issues i know the 970 cards are having. but as expected i haven't ran into any issues with the 6gb on my single card.

If it helps as well i am using roughly 9-10GB ram while BF4 is up and standard processes are in the background.

But yeah anyone on the edge in regards to the swift. This monitor was jaw dropping when i plugged it in and loaded up BF4. was wondering why i didn't buy it sooner!

Ashley did yours come with all the leads etc? Not sure what to do. My concern is the monitor going bang after 6 months and not being covered by any kind of warranty.

I went from 970sli to 980 sli and its a massive difference. If youre having to turn off settings to avoid going above 3.5gb is it not better just to buy one 980 and wait until you have a bit more cash for a second 980 if you find you need it?
I mean one 980 with no AA, motion blur etc.. will probably perform fine so it might be worth a shot.

I personally bought the 970s in sli because i thought they could handle everything maxxed in sli (like the reviews, specs etc.. intimated).

Amazing RMA Service experience

So I had an issue with the monitor not coming out of sleep mode/turning on unless I unplugged it, waited 10 seconds and plugged it back in. Everything else worked and it was a brilliant monitor.

Got onto ASUS Support and just had the best RMA experience, no hassle swap and new Swift is gorgeous. I was worried it was going to be a big drama but pretty straight forward.

Very impressed, new monitor working like a charm...

Thanks @asus
