The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Can anyone help me decide whether this monitor is suitable upgrade. I currently have a amd 290 but wish to upgrade in the near future but in the meantime require a new monitor. Can I use this monitor without gsync but with a decent refresh rate with the 290 until i have finished saving for a new gfx e.g. 980 or whatever comes next? I currently play total war, coh2, wow, and occasional FPS.

It'll work without gsync but the 290 cards can be a bit problematic with 144Hz especially with this monitor - you might find your limited to 90-120Hz with this monitor :S

Well I just got a "RMA Accepted" email followed shortly after by a "Replacement Shipped" message.

I'll post back when I know it's condition when it arrives, Hopefully no dead/stuck pixels, Scratched screen or caked on filth like when this replacement arrived XD

Get a freesync monitor and stick with AMD I think :)

You can get a better monitor for less.

I got mine today. I was sceptical about this monitor after reading about all the problems people described in this thread. I only plugged it for few minutes but first impressions are positive. Build quality is really top notch, colors are better form my benq 2420t, not night and day, but better. Good thing is, I got monitor manufactured in December 2014 as Asus Rep suggests, these batch is revised and we should expect less problems with them. Strange thing though, I got euro power plug. I appreciate Haribo, but it would be nice to get converter or uk power plug at the first place;)

Now few questions:-)
I changed default to this setting:
On mine I'm using
Brightness: 25
Contrast: 50
Colour Mode: User
Red: 99
Green: 98
Blue: 99
And gamma 0.90 in the nvidia control panel under adjust desktop colour settings.
Keep overdrive on normal
I found them a bit dark, so I switched brightness to 35.
This overdrive is OD in OSD menu, isn't it?
I do not get this Turbo Hot key. I press it on the monitor, it change nothing, I press on the monitor and press left mouse button, then it switch between Turbo 60,120,144hz. Under windows display settings, screen resolution, advanced, I always have 144hz, even if I select Turbo 60hz with Turbo hotkey.
I searched Asus website for the drivers for this screen but found nothing, is it me or we do not need special driver as windows 8.1 recognize this monitor anyway?
Hope one of you, more experienced user could shed some light in here;)
It is late, so I just want to try this G-SYNC Pendulum Demo and time for bed. Btw, I really like 1440p:D

^^ Once you get gamma tweaked the colours are a LOT better than the 2420 monitors.

I have to use a higher brightness than 25-35 on mine.

The turbo button is a bit screwy in operation - on the desktop it needs some movement on the screen before it will change - for some people just whirling the mouse around is enough but for me I have to move a whole window before it triggers - but usually works fine in a fullscreen game.

Well I got my rog swift yesterday and overall I'm happy.
It feels solid and premium quality unlike the acer I had.
I was surprised that it came with a European plug...luckily I had a uk adaptor.

Upon starting the monitor, the brightness and contrast were too high, so I've been messing around with the settings and it's a lot better now. Not as good as my ips in terms of colours but still good.

Of course 144hz and gsync is amazing! And the little joystick on the back of the monitor makes it so easy to navigate the menus. The menus themselves are a little sparse. Only brightness, contrast, and colour options are available.

The only thing I'm a little dissapointed in is that I can't increase the saturation of colours in the rog swift menus.
on my Asus ips panel I could do that. I like saturated colours in my games. Only way I can do that now is by using sweetfx .

Anyway its a very good monitor so far. I would recommend.

I am overall happy with the panel. You're not gonna get ips colours but after calibration it comes pretty close to my Asus ips panel. For gaming it's amazing, but for colour work not so much. I am using it as a gaming monitor and 144hz gsync is so fluid! It's why I got this panel and it didn't dissapoint.

Just got mine as well. The screen looks like new. The build quality seems all in all, more solid around the Bezel. A few scuffs on the base.

It's an August 2014 model.

Shame I can't test it atm because of decorating the room. :(

Mine just turned up at my work, opened it up for a sneak peek and its manufacture date is Dec 14 so I hope that's cool.
First observation is the build quality and aesthetics.... darn sight better than the Acer XB270HU im sending back.

Now ive got wait several hours till I finish work staring at the box before I can plug it in a try it :)

*waits impatiently*

Fingers crossed ill be happy with it.

Yeah that aspect is a little disappointing to me as well as I dislike doing it via drivers/software though I have got it setup how I want via the nVidia control panel colours wise.
