The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

First RMA - strangely enough I've had it exactly a year before it did this :( (well invoice date is 21/10/2014).

120Hz and below just fuzzy text and an effect like dynamic contrast adjustment - I noticed the monitor suddenly blip brighter then the text slowly blurred over a couple of seconds. The right hand side has vertical screen door artefacts on any motion. 144Hz the screen flickers and jumps around as well.

EDIT: This is the outcome of the last time I had to RMA anything to Asus http://www.aten-hosted.com/images/DSC00524S.jpg :S lets hope for better results this time.

Stores/manufacturers have to repair items up to 6 months from purchases (onus is now on them otherwise after 6 months it's down to you to prove a fault). This is part of the changes that was announced in the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to bring it up to date.

They have only once chance at a repair and after that you have a right to ask for a refund, usual 6 months.

I am one of the fortunate bunch here that *touch wood* is completely unaffected and have had my monitor for about 5 months. I do have a couple of issues with this monitor and that is the Light in Motion never works (always on red on every driver I tried) and ULMB sometimes works ie screen is either bright or very dim - clearly it's not working on 358.50 as the Pulse Width that dims the screen makes zero difference.

Thanks for the info. I had a read at the new consumer rights stuff, but it was beyond me. This was a bit more comprehensible but doesn't apply to me as it's over 6 months. As I bought the product under the old consumer rights, would it not be bound by those rules? edit: they're not restrospective

So I finally got the RMA approved. They twice refused to process it based off the serial number, claiming the model was shipped and sold in netherlands and was only bound by local warranty.

Sent them the PoP and they've authorised it. I'll get an e-mail when the replacement has shipped. What's the usual turnaround from this point?

I'm glad I initiated this because playing FO3 last night I noticed micro flickering in the sky in the wasteland. I'm sure this didn't happen before, but it's really hard to tell because it's so fine and only in certain situations.
Ironically that is the same reason I returned the 4k acer last year (as well as ghosting)

On the plus side RMA request was accepted almost immediately... to add insult to injury I've had to pull an XL2420T out of storage for gaming in the meantime :( forgot how much I hate this monitor and after using the Swift it makes it look even worse.

If you need power adapters I will have 2 spare sets as I'm onto my 3rd swift and the instructions state send monitor back with no cables or accessories. On second thought il keep them as spares just in case !

I'm somewhat raging that this is my 3rd faulty monitor. Asus said they can't send a IPS model as part of RMA it had to be like for like. I'm asking now about how to get refund and add the extra £150 for IPS Model as I'm sure it would be better for graphic & web design as well.

Is there any reason to choose this over the IPS? this most recent page has put me off.

But I'm looking for an optimum gaming experience, and wasn't sure if a 1ms TN would be better than 4-5ms IPS? The dell I read gets 1ms in 'fast' mode which can results in artifacts - is the swift different?

I have a U2410 IPS at the moment, finding it difficult to choose a new primary monitor - nvidia 980ti

I got a PG279Q since my PG278Q was in RMA, replacement is at the office, took only one week. Image is much nicer on PG279Q, but I can tell it's slower, I got used to it I think, not so bothersome. Response to inputs is fine it's just that it smears the image more when you move.
I guess if you want speed 278Q, if you want better image 279Q.
Right now I would think that I will sell the 278Q when I get it back.

The difference between TN and IPS isn't really THAT much especially considering the Swift does have one of the best TN panels in it, Comes down to personal preference really, I have a 4K dell IPS next to my Swift TN and honestly apart from a little bit more colour depth and slightly better viewing angles the IPS Swift wouldn't even get a look from me.

Agreed, I was well impressed with the Swift considering it was a TN

Never owned a TN panel myself, just VA types. Viewsonic vx 2025 and the benq in sig. Both use the same panel iirc and I've always been very impressed with colours on both. Not the greatest for response times and both quite old now. But will be interesting to compare the swift. 27" and 2560x1440 is gonna be very nice though.:)

Hopefully it arrives today. On holiday from work so would be nice to get it setup. Still no games to play at the moment though. Backup hard drive died a death mid system build. Not helped by having to redownload a lot of games on my rubbish connection.

Right sorry to be a pain but I've re-recorded a better video of my problem in BF4.

This is more noticeable when you die and get the larger transparent rectangle across the screen.

Also all my dark areas on BF4 seem to have a very purple tinge to them. It's actually more noticeable on the photo but you can definitely see it with the naked eye.

Is this looking like an RMA job? I'm a bit annoyed this £500 panel isn't as good image quality wise as my £150 monitor.
Why o why didn't I listen to the people saying don't buy this monitor :(
I can confirm that it happend on both my BenQ and Asus 144 screens. That happens due to the way BF4 frostbyte engine works, so its game related, not a screen issue I think. Try some CSGO or other shooters to test your screen.

As you enjoy BF4 as much as me

Try that first - Using that monitor it almost made me look as if I could play the game (which we know I can't) :D

Currently downloading bf3, 4 will be next. But as they're massive installs they're gonna take a while. Hopefully this weekend though I can get a relative with a fibre connection to download them to an external hdd. Should make life much easier.

I'm not going to say I'm a monitor expert and I agree the TN ROG is good but I find the IPS one to be quite a bit better image wise. Maybe my TN ROG was a not so good one, I know that the image wasn't very uniform over the whole screen, maybe someone more picky would have asked an RMA for it.
Anyway it finally failed with white lines so I had to RMA it.

My TN Swift had pretty decent panel uniformity (so gonna be a bit sad if the RMA replacement doesn't) sitting next to a calibrated Dell IPS it didn't let itself down too badly - didn't have quite the deep colour saturation of the IPS and obviously view angles but otherwise was pretty decent.

What's the turnaround from them accepting your RMA to doing the switch? They said they'd e-mail me when it's gonna happen but it feels a bit strange to leave it like that in case I'm not at home the day they wanna do it.
